I’d be curious to get 360 feedback on Stocker; find out why it is Carlton felt he didn’t warrant a spot on their list.

On face value, I’d say he’s worth pursuing, assuming we did in fact do the necessary due diligence.
Well, Stanton should have the inside goss on how he was perceived inside Carlton up to the end of last year.

Wonder if we would be interested in Josh Bruce as and salary for significant unders.
I thought the same with Lobb nominating the dogs

Naughton
Lobb
Darcy
JUH
T.English
J.Sweet

Is a very high end group of Tall Fwds/Rucks excluding Bruce

Might allow them to up their offer to Dunkley.

Bruce should give some genuine competition to H.Jones but all 3 could play in the same side if form warrants.

Just turned 30 so 2 years left and then thats probably it

There's no point having Bruce and Stewart. If we hadn't signed Stewart, I'd be all for taking Bruce if Doggies were chipping in a pick. But with Stewart, we'd have two guys taking 2 list spots where we're probably more interested in getting games into Jones, Baldwin, Bryan, Cox, etc. (or we should be!)

Long and JJ heading to GC Suns…is there anyone we can pinch from them 2MP style?? Don’t they have an expanded list that’s getting cut back this year??
48+1 currently down to 42 + 2 cat B

So need to get that 48 + Long + JJ (Whoever that is) = 50

50
  • Rankine
  • Nicholls
  • Murtagh
  • Conroy
  • Jez Mclennan = 45

They then also have spuds
Tsatas
B.Uwland
Corbett
Faulkhead
C.Burgess
Markov
D.Macpherson
Constable
Fiorini
J.Sharp (Maybe not a spud but also apparently wants out) (10)

Why would we look at Tom Phillips? He's worse than Ham. Ham hits targets from time to time.

He’s not worse than ham
And good depth
Nothing wrong with having a good vfl player that can play a role at afl level
We have enough of his role imo. I’d rather we target more contested or more speed

This is as a consequence of being the worst running team in the comp, we need to import run.

Phillips is a good winger, I was just under the opinion that his body was in ruins.

Yep, we lack lots of players that can run hard both ways all game. Getting more on the list wouldn’t hurt if they are cheap and provide depth. We aren’t short on list spots for draftees and rookies.

Nothing wrong with a 1 year contract for depth imo
Cutler and ham go do we really have enough of those who know how to effectively play the wing role.
And yes we should also target more speed and contested ball players

He is not the player I would pick but it is a necessary evil and something we have to do.

I’m glad we have identified it as a need.

No I agree, however I don't think we have our pick of all players this off-season. If we can get players in that demonstrate the level of running required, then even if they never play in the AFL it could be beneficial.

Martin
Langford
Durham
Cox
Heppell

That’s enough wing depth for me, would only slightly consider Phillips if Heppell decides to go. I would also hope the likes of Shiel and Merrett also spend more time on a wing to help balance the stoppage setups.

Cox isn’t playing wing next year
Heppell is a liability
If we are happy to chase Tucker nothing wrong with getting Phillips for a year.

If we get a couple of honest foot soldiers who are hard 2 way runners for no other reason than to set standards in this area and be examples of how it's really done, I think it's a good time in our build to do it. If it strengthens spots 20 - 28 on the list then what's the harm?

I was wondering whether we would express interest in Phillips.

He played essentially 100 games straight in a very strong Pies side. He's the type of player who I can also understand why he's the first to get squeezed.

Could I swap Ham for Phillips quickly enough? The answer is no.

It does shrink the spots seemingly available to be sensible about filling out our list of mids but it would be a good move for the list.
