If we finish with pick 3, it may be a good draft to look at targeting Adelaide/Hawthorn/Collingwood/GWS around that pick 6/7/8 range as an option to slide down and try and make a deal for something like 3 & 21 for 7 & future first. You would think one of Lemmey or Scully would be there.
I’d take 3 and 21 over gambling on a team to be terrible next year.

It's not gambling on a team being terrible per-say, rather an educated bet that your Collingwood/Hawthorn/Adelaide's of the world won't make a massive jump and win a final or two next year.

Even Collingwood losing a final next year and finishing 7th would result in the trade being 3 & 21 for 7 & 2023 pick 12. Our pick 21 could well be absorbed by Davey any way so if we can turn it into a future first next year then awesome.

For the price of a 4-pick down grade when there's not necessarily a clear cut option that we desperately want at 3, then it seems a no brainer at the moment.

In any case, our draw is opening up from here and we're getting Snelling, Stringer and Langford back over the next couple of games so we might not have pick 3. I can see us getting another 5 or 6 wins from here with games against West Coast, North, GWS, Port, Collingwood and Richmond left this year. Hell, I give us a chance on Friday.

Yeah but you're probably high on cocaine

I don't see that optimism at all.

I can see maybe 4 wins with an upset or two and provided we don't shit the bed v WC or North.

As an aside, saying our draw is opening up from here coming up on a stretch of...

Carlton
St Kilda
West Coast (A)
Sydney
Brisbane (A)

...is not exactly how I'd describe it.

Fair enough, admittedly haven't seen a whole lot of him recently, just remember he could snag a few.
Very good in that regard. The others, ehh, not so much

I'm trying to be realistic. None of the teams I mentioned are great and a few we had very close losses to (Collingwood, Port) so I can see how we'd be able to beat them.

Reckon we should use a few rookie selections on possible delisted players to help bridge the depth.

Daniel Howe, Sam Mayes, Connor Blakely. Sorely to help the midfield in the VFL and possibly help develop some of the kids. We are pretty far back in our rebuild and are stuck in no mans land. All are 26 and are senior bodies.

Hit me up with a good reason

Brodie was always good at what he was good at, even at AFL level, with question marks about his ability to run defensively, but never anything about his character.

Mathieson has / had question marks about his off-field character, which as an outsider isn't something we can easily see or evaluate. It's been very consistently spoken about that he and Parish weren't drafted together because Mathieson was a bad influence on Parish. Maybe he's matured, maybe not. Maybe he's simply a guy who's great at VFL level but can't make the step up to do it at AFL level.

Where are these question marks about off field character? Link me

I think AFL clubs are very good at knocking that out of players pretty quick smart. A move on id say could only be further beneficial in this motion aswell

Im still yet to read anything from a source id trust. Which pod was it on the rish and rath, maybe i need to listen to that

Mattho has attributes this club needs right now. If hes just improving training competitvness for not a whole and providing depth them im happy with that

No.

I'm not running around finding links about something that people have spoken about for 5 years because you want to create your own narrative.

Believe it, or don't. Up to you. Just don't pretend you somehow know more than others by feigning ignorance.

There’s absolutely been questions over Matheson being a loose unit. Whether that’s fair or not, I have no clue.

I think back then it was more that the two together might not be a great idea given they were thick as thieves.

Wouldn't be totally opposed to him. Would fit the ethic, brings a good amount of white line fever (we really do lack that) and I'll take the free kicks thanks :)

to have survived this long in the Lions environment without being delisted or frozen out has to count for his maturity. Fagan doesn't strike me as one to suffer a player with questionable character who is also outside his best 22.

Worse case if he's just depth with us, so be it. we need it.

You don’t know who they would take at 3 though. The champs haven’t been played yet, the order will become a lot clearer after that. Top 3 pick is too valuable to trade out of imo, unless there is a clear cut group of talent in the top 7-8 picks like a couple of years back (2018 walsh all the way down to smith). If there is a significant drop off after the top 3-4 you don’t trade. If it looks like a player like tsatas will be there at pick 3, you don’t trade down.

Because there is none

Are Brisbane really drafting him if hes such a disaster off field

Are they really keeping him on all these years just to play VFL being terrible off field. Is he really performing in the 2nds like he is if hes not with it? All reasonable questions to ask

Im yet to see anything reported, thats all im saying

Loose unit? Its a term that can vary so much. As long as he gives his all on field and its not affecting his performance than who cares. Libba is considered a 'loose unit' by many but god id love someone of his character in the side right now

We want to be something we dont draft for

Mattho beats any of our mids in the clinches in PS. All we can comment on is what we said on field as thats all we know and see. Passion, ruthless, wont back down, killer instinct, super competitor, compliments what we have and im sure hed love an opportunity to play. At worse he increases our competitivness at training

When given the opportunity hes been pretty good at the top level

Not to mention I literally posted this on Friday, and he even quoted this post so can't say he hasn't seen it:

Nah.

The last Rish & Rath podcast they had Parish was talking about him a bit and the stuff they used to get up to. They were separated for a reason and I think I’d rather not risk that combination even now.
If you can't find that podcast then you're down to wilful ignorance.
