It seems a very difficult choice between all four, but IF Fejo and Clarke are the two to miss out then I hope we can have them in the VFL.

Tex and Martin make sense to me, Tex fills a need and is more advanced than any of us thought IMO, Martin just knows how to kick goals and all different types it seems.

Fejo clearly has upside but not ready yet and the Davey twins on the way hurts him.

Clarke is good depth but way too many in front to justify picking him.

Are the Davey twins both better than Fejo?

Fejo looks good but seems very raw, he'd probably need a couple of years development to become AFL standard and by then the Davy twins will be on the list so it doesn't really seem worthwhile. I'd offer a spot on the VFL list so we can keep a close eye on his development.

Dan Cherny reporting that we’ve cut Fejo Jr and Clarke. Looks like Wanganeen and Martin are the last two spots on our list
I really hope we take both of them, cause trying to choose one of them could be difficult. both deserve spots on the list.

Taking it as gospel
He was always good for Essendon info before he left the age. Writes for CODE now which is some ad-free subscription sports news thing from the Murdoch empire.

There was a pile of Essendon articles on there the other day which seemed to also syndicate from the Herald Sun (Jay Clark) so I think it might be the place to go for Essendon news now.

In any case I think those of us who watched the intraclub would agree with that decision. Feel sorry for Clarke though…

It sounds like it was quite the fierce competition between Martin, Tex, Fejo and Clarke all preseason.
Shame for Clarke who I think would certainly suit a team with a really young developing midfield that maybe needs a bit of protection and is capable of performing even at AFL level.
Fejo has some impressive elements to his game but unfortunately we were never going to take all of Tex, Fejo and then next year the 2 Davey brothers. Its too many small forward types to draft all at once. He'll probably eventually develop into a real player though if he sticks at it.

I am excited for Tex if we take him. A small forward that can do some aerial work at times is something we've always lacked. Unfortunately our better small forwards over the years haven't been strong in that area eg Tippa/Davey.

I don't think its a coincidence that we really wanted forwards with the SSP. If you look at our list its by far the easiest position to break into the best 22 in. We are limited in small to medium forwards compared to other positions.

It happens but history does not say it always happens. Problem would be it is not just Bryan who they would want and second to that we end up chasing a second / young ruck again. We would be better off holding Bryan and getting the trade value we want if he decides to leave. My opinion on Bryan is he actually has more tools as a ruck than Draper.
Agreed, Bryan is classy around the ground and a very deft tap ruckman. I think we will be a star. This could be the year though gut feel says 2023 is the big break out.

Which means we probably trade Phillips for King. Straight swap 😊

I think Fejo was more a wing / half back type, but with Cutler, Durham, Ham, Cox and Langford we're loaded with wings.

I'm bummed for Clarke but i get the alternative choices being considered too.

He was all over that intraclub match contested ball wise and even hurting a few with his raw physicality (I'd be curious to see his stats actually) but it is what it is.

Not often i like to see players go to other clubs for what ever reason, usually because they have a habit of hurting us game day but for Dylan i truly hope someone picks him up...

Keep doing what you're doing EFC, relentless system based list tweaks. It's becoming a facinating ride after so much flailing about over the years... 🔴⚫

Martin and Wanganeen for mine.
Martin was very good in a few areas of the game. Obviously kicking goals but his opportunistic work was good as was his work rate and the pressure / defense was good.
Wanganeen has skill and gets involved on the inside was well as the outside. Has a good read of the game.

If Clarke had no issues with his ball drop he would be talked about as one of the best young midfielders in the game. He is tough and knows how to play and is also 150% team. Trouble is they can not fix the kicking issue.

Fejo jnr has some tricks but is very outside and spends a lot of the time not in the game. He has some tools to work with but he also looks 2 years away from being a consistent performer. I think Wanganeen has just as much to work with and looks a lot closer to the level.

The thing that made Walla the player he is as a small forward was his outright speed and size meant he was always a danger to do something as far as pressure and tackling goes even if he got a bit lost in the flow of the game.

Clarke simply won’t make it as a midfielder at AFL level because of his kicking, and that he’s not good enough at the other stuff to allow his kicking flaws to be ignored.

Hopefully he sticks around for the VFL side, as I think he comes across as a fantastic young bloke.

I'd like both Clarke and Fejo to be picked up for the VFL side, especially Fejo. If he can improve his game there, he could be anything.

It's a shame that his good attributes don't outweigh his poor kicking. Hopefully (for us) he plays in our VFL. It'd be great to see him get a spot on another AFL list, though.
