I like the move. Avoided losing a first and gives us more option to get a bit more from the stringer trade with pick swap options.

Can also Trade out more and get more picks next year. No instant top ten pick is hard to swallow short term but putting that emotion aside is a smart strategic decision.

Rosa giving himself options.

Think another small, plus project tall ruckman or fwd would be good use of later picks. Also wouldn't mind trying to use a pick for Robertson, maginness.

Plenty of options.

No, no no, no no no no.

What's the point? So they can sit on the list for 4 years and not play, then either get delisted, or look promising enough that they get poached?

The idea of a project ruckman really needs to go out the window.

But yes - overall happy with what Rosa has done. As you say, there are options now.

Agree

But we also already have one called Vigo

And once that was on the table, the pre-draft trade was the best value. Melbourne likely get rid of some these extra picks meaning their hand isn't as strong and the leverage changes once the bid has been made and we have a necessity to move the pick out.

Why would GWS do that?

What do you mean?

Dont you think its a good deal for them

Would need to check list spots ect, but it seems a fair few leaving GWS so id imagine a few spots available. Could get 5 inside 31 for a strong draft and even sharpen into the pointy end with 15/16 into say a 7 or 8 if they like and have less list spots

Refreshing to have someone as the chief negotiator view a trade outcome as a win-win, and not a we win you lose outcome.
Loving this start by Rosa.

For a first rounder and a third rounder, he got a first rounder, 2 second rounders and 2 third rounders and a fourth rounder.

This is potentially one of the biggest win/lose trades weve ever had.

I don’t think they’d do a future first. But I’d be happy to do 28 + Stringer for a future second and XoH

+ some late picks for points if we need

Think that's the positive way of looking at it. There's a negative way, as well as somewhere in the middle.

Am sure Melbourne fans are looking at it at a massive win from their end.

Melbourne are a good chance to bounce back and make us look quite silly next year.
Dunno. Oliver is seemingly cooked, Petracca won't be the same player, and losing Neal-Bullen is a big loss imo. That's just on field.

GWS want picks for next years academy player with the tighter rules coming in i don't see them getting rid of it.

Correct. Melbourne Win, Essendon Win.

Essentially the triad basically boils down to

Pick 9 + future 3rd for

2 firsts (Kako + F1)
2 seconds (Melbourne + a 2nds worth of points from Kako not getting picked at 5)
And a 4th

that’s practically 3FRP worth of value (assuming 2 2nds = late first) for pick 9+F3rd

That’s before even counting the value of what happens when we further split trade our 2nds for points/future assets
