Perryman would be a huge get. Not in the sense that it is an A-Grade player, but like you've said above, he'd improve that 6-12 area. Brad loves players who can play multiple positions, so again would be a great fit. Also hard as they come. Imagine another Durham but on a wing or half back. He'd release Martin onto a wing, or ease Hepp into retirement. We also have the cap space to offer him a massively front ended contract, as well as a Stengle/ainsworth so I don't see why not.

Apart from that, we really, desperately need another small forward. But a good one. An A-Grade Small forward will fix so many of our scoring issues.
Should we not get Stengle, can anyone see us drafting Kako with our first rounder? He won't make it to the part of the draft where we can match bids by the sound of it.

Its hard to know how highly rated Kako is

Id say hes around the 15-25 mark though. So i can see any pick with doible digits being right in the frame for him

Having an excellent year, i dont see how hes that far behind Watson tbh

His goal kicking is not the same level as Watson but his aggression and attack on the footy is higher from what I have seen.

If we were to draft Kako, is he likely to be AFL ready by R1?

Id say yes

Whether hes good enough, hed have to be knocking past guys like Hind, Menzie, Davey ect and if we have all Ainsworth, Gresham and Guelfi then makes it hard

But he hits the scoreboard and his defensive pressure is very good from what ive seen so far, also finds the pill more than say a Watson will imo

Im all on board the eth-dog suggestion and draft him anyways. The biggest thing for a player in his position is his ability overhead. This (imho), sets him apart from the rest. His goal kicking has let him down for the year (14.21) but he’s an excitement machine. I am praying like hell the AFL gives us a small win for once and changes the (NGA) rules so we can match a bid (likely after our first).

If Suns/swans can have academy pics in the top5 then why can’t other teams. It’s pretty strange in that respect.

Not that strange. NSW and QLD is all about bringing local product into the game to grow the market . The Victorian sides ****ed themselves . JUH should never have been academy . It was supposed to be for kids with backgrounds outside the normal system . Personally I have no issues with the Northern academies. They still have to pay a price and unlike what the Victorian clubs did they are not looking for loopholes. They are investing in local product in a small market.

I have no issues with the northern academies. I think they are doing good work producing AFL quality players.

I have issues with how they have proven the AFLs origional plan to be highly flawed and in need of changing. Yet the AFL is still pretending their plan isn’t broken

or are trying to find a Band-Aid solution

Stengle and perryman would be perfect. The same way mckay gresh and duursma have improved us this year these guys have attributes that we lack and will catapult us into the top 4ish without having to give up draft capital. Could also trade our FRP for an F1 and go hard at a contracted big fish next year to round it out
100%

I'd be stoked with that. I'm looking at 2027-2030 for four years of prelims and GFs.

Chip away for the next two years on internal development
  • bring Caddy, Jones, Cox, Perkins up to an elite level
  • watch Durham, Caldwell, Martin & Duursma go from young bucks to mid 20s guns
  • see what's what with Tstatas, Hobbs & the Daveys
  • get Roberts and El-Hawli into the side
  • make calls on Lual, Hayes, Wanganeen, Visentini
  • get Reid & Baldwin on the park consistently
  • see where Draper & Bryan land
  • see if Wright can get back to his best

By end of 2026 for different reasons I can see the end of the line coming for Hunter, Setterfield, Goldstein, Kelly, Heppell, Weidemann, Hind and Laverde.

Feel like Guelfi and Menzie will still be around on the fringe.

We would have a fairly young but very capable list, ready to play a few golden years together.

To which we add for the 2027 season Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Harley Reid ;)

Fixed it for you.

If we went all in on FA and swapped

Weideman
Heppell
Kelly
Stringer

For

Stengle
Perryman
Cumming
Zurhaar

How much extra cap space do you think we'd end up spending? And if we made those exact 4 changes are we a better side?
Probably ~1.5mill extra

Im not sure how the last question, is a question. Of course we are

Zurhaar is KMart Stringer.

I like our overall list balance in terms of numbers per position, maybe another key forward instead of medium. Not upset if Stringer leaves to a Melbourne type tbh, but I wouldn't get Zurhaar

Zurhaar doesn't really 'fix' the problem Stringer creates in team balance.

Stringer not being a particularly noteworthy overhead mark as a medium makes him hard to fit in, but his ability to kick goals others can't, makes him hard to leave out.

Otherwise if we got two of Perryman, Cumming & Stengle we've be upgrading the 6-12 range of players very nicely.

If stringer was to leave I'd be looking at changing our setup rather than trying to replace his type.

Under no circumstances do I want zurharr on this team
