Some toxic posts here.

Seriously, some of you are just sad.
Complain, whinge, degrade.

Did you even watch the Blues v Lions game?

Cripps is a star, well deserved.
is the award based on one game is it?

I alway agree that the MVP is the best player rather than the brownlow

I thought Cripps would win narrowly over Grundy
AFLCA award, MVP and then the brownlow imo

Hard to take an award seriously that has Tim Kelly as the second most valuable player in the game.

Think that’s harsh on Kelly, the award is not saying the MVP for their career just this season.
The Brownlow is even worse, judged by people who cannot do their job right and we are allowing them still to pick the most prestigious award in the game.
Kelly has had a strong season and it’s no surprise to most he has ended top 2.

Cripps is a future superstar and champion of the game. He needs a few more great seasons to reach that echelon but is doing everything right. Anyone who thinks he does not deserve the award really doesn't understand football. A gun.

No.

Did you watch the Blues v Lions game?
Yep, he had arguably the best game of any player for the season.

Just pointing out that using one game as your reasoning for him winning the award is stupid and pointless.

For the record, I don't have an issue with him winning the award, he wouldn't have been my pick but he is far from undeserving

Congratulations to the great man!

Landslide
I had a feeling he would win, however did not expect the margin. Comparing to last year, the players clearly viewed the top 3 a bit closer than this year:

2019 - 1st: Cripps (832 votes), 2nd: Kelly (519 votes), 3rd: Neale (481)

2018 - 1st: Mitchell (773), 2nd: Cripps (529), 3rd: Gawn (238)

Cripps being the mainstay for the past 2 years.

Past Greatness
The past winners read very well (in reverse order, some multiple winners*):

P. Cripps | T. Mitchell | D. Martin | P. Dangerfield | N. Fyfe* | G. Ablett Jr* | D. Swan | C.Judd* | B.Cousins | N.Riewoldt

It’s not toxic to have a different opinion and to question things, it’s toxic to have tunnel vision blinding you so that you can only see things one way.

Cripps was inconsistent and his side finished 3rd last. No doubt at all that his best football is unbeatable and comfortably up there with the best but he was inconsistent and his side finished 3rd last. It’s quite easy to make a case for multiple others being more worthy.

After the presentation, Cripps sat down at 360 desk with Robbo and Whateley for a quick interview

Robbo: “Did you get stuck into the beers and wine tonight?

Cripps: blah blah blah...

Whateley: “What is your favourite moment within the game? Which aspect of footy gets your competitive juices flowing?

Cripps: blah blah blah...

Robbo: “So what would be your drink of choice?”

Cripps: ??? :/

Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. How did this guy become chief football writer for the Herald Sun and co-host of 360?

What a plonker

Most media is catered for the lowest common denominator, and Robbo caters for that perfectly.

He was not as inconsistent as you make out. Yes he had a shocker against Essendon.
He had some monster games. Those games won him the award.
His peers voted him MVP.

The team finished 3rd last because we went 1-10 under Bolton. He got the flick.
Under Teague we went 6-5, decent.
Winning MVP whilst being in a lowly team is even more meritorious, not less.

Very good player and I like him, yet you can’t give the MVP to someone that never plays in the big games. Carlton are an off broadway team that no one cares about - at least for 2019! When you’re fighting for top 2 or 4 or trying to win to get into finals then maybe. Clearly AFL players like him as do I, but the award is a bit of a popularity contest I would say.

Yeah, ok - new criteria to be implemented for the MVP
A) can only be selected from those teams who participate in the top 2
B) when there is no clear selection, then you must revert to teams ranked 3 and 4

I think I might refer this to the Nuffies of AFL for an opinion......
Fighting for top 8 involves 13-14 teams. Carlton hasn’t played in any big games or has never been match of the round for years. Hasn’t been tested in crunch games. Dominant in nothing games when the team loses doesn’t mean anything.
