the fisherman's road ground not faring so well? did webya rd go under water recently? Bauer is a champion player - noosa would have the best midfield in the competition by far.. any thoughts? two medal winners in succession- tyrell and bauer if I'm not mistaken
Bloom is a big loss from pbc if the mail is correct.. dyson isn't getting any younger, has O'brien recruited again?
How are the hawkers looking sweetie? contenders again this season for the top 2 spot?
L.Matthews, bloom, formerly b.matthews WOULD have to be the highest paid players running around this comp???
How are the pumas looking lenny ? good numbers on the track?

Brauer equal on votes but ineligible due to suspension in last round. Heard a whisper Tyrell could be on his way back to Weyba Rd. Noosa midfield would be one of the best seen in the comp for many years with plenty of options as to who can run through there. Page is the key, gives them 1st use then works his backside off around the ground and can easily pull in 15 marks on a good day. Reckon he could be used more up forward as well. Agree those three players would be well compensated,
If Sandgate have kept their list, they will be right in it, with a couple of matchwinners in Walker and Forbes and well coached.

If you want brutal, how about the 9.30am twos games vs Magpies for the Brisbane based clubs?

its going to be brutal if they start the twos game a half an hour into the seniors game as per the draw for rounds 14 and 17. It would be fun to watch, but maybe a bit scrappy. Sherwoods juniors are going to need somewhere to play for those Saturdays.

Ha ha yeah I noticed that when looking at what my own (probable) draw will be!

Still, it's almost preferable to a 9.30am start on the other side of town ;)

Sandgate from all reports should be a similar side to last year. Rob Lucas has retired, but other than that i think the rest are back on board. Forbes should be fully recovered from surgery (unlike GF!) and be a huge asset if he stays fit all year. Last year they recruited Walker, Forbes, Lucas, the Pettitt brothers and Nuss which are all in the elite in comp, but dont think they have picked up as many big players this year so far. But they beat everyone last year at one point, including pbc down there and noosa up there in semi, so if they have some luck along the way and stay fit, should be as good as anyone. Goin down for dinner next week, so will check out training and see how they are looking.

Couple of ladder predictions floating around, figure I'll give it a crack.

1. Noosa- Only lost 3 games all year, lost Reynolds and Brain who were huge big game players, but good depth. Matthews getting older, Brauer a gun, but midfield depth hurt by losing those two. Pick ups all seem like they will add depth as opposed to star power. Still the benchmark but.
2. Sandgate- Rob Lucas retiring hurts defence and experience, but not irreplacable. Dont seem to have lost to many, and if Forbes, Walker, Ben Drew and Fabian all stay fit are as good as any in comp. Dickfos going again, can they send him off a with a flag?
3. PBC- Should have good core and arguably best midfield with Horn, Dyson, Bloom etc. Plus top ruckman in Ianson. O'Brien coaching again and sure to want to make up for last years early finals exit. Plus hard to beat at home.
4.Burleigh- Could finish from 4th any where up. Few of their better players getting older, and Pianta retiring is a loss. But if they keep same list and add a few like they seem to each year, could mirror Sandgates improvement this year.
5. Magpies- Coming back from top level should see them have at least a dozen who will be exellent in this comp. Lions thing will make them a week by week proposition. And if they get injuries to key players, plus losing 5 to lions, could struggle at times. Other weeks if all fit and available will be tough, especially at Chelmer.

6.Springwood- Maybe dreaming with this, but they werre much improved last year and pushed most sides. Young team who have played together for a while now and if they can add 4 or 5 solid seniors, might surprise a few.
7. Grange- New coach, should attract some new players. I think they will improve, but will depend if their best players all stay on board.
8. Surfers- Another team rebuilding with young guys, still have some quality player in Green and Fenton, but may lack depth.
9. Maroochy- Bit of an unknown but Im goin off the loses posted on here, and the White potential loss. If he stays they are 7 goals better. Is Ben Matthews playing again, and will knees hold up. Take out Bailey and Mills and they could lose big chunk of their key players. Might be a little like surfers were this year after making prelim year before and having to rebuild after losing players.
10. Cooly- Very young last year and copped some floggings, rebuilding.
11. Mayne- New coach might mean new game style which cant hurt, but loss of Brown, Falconer, L Ferguson hurts them. Need to recruit well to avoid spoon, hopefully they do.

Im just a silly old man and you may think they arent in right order, happy for critics to have a crack at a list though. If they would put a draw up might impact ladder to, depending on who gets to play who once or twice.
fair points, though Noosa did lose Brain & Reynolds, but Reynolds is the main lose there, Brain is a great player but inconsistant and apparently has the attitude and charactor of a cocky 14 year old.
Not a chance in the world that White makes Maroochy a 7 goal better side.
Bloom has left Palmy.

Racking my brain on what the Aflq community could do to help flood victims. Thought about maybe a game between Div 1 and 2 premiers of 2010, being Morningside v's Noosa with all proceeds to go to the relief effort. I know it there is a big diiference between the comps, but think it would generate some interest. Players pay 10 dollars to participate and 5 dollar general admission. Both clubs provide volunteers for match day operations. Game played at Morningside to maximise supporter potential, one week before season and heavily promoted by Aflq. Thoughts people?

yeh then possibly a boxing match between all Div 2 teams, nominate 3 from each side and throw them all in a ring together, no rules bang bang ding ding :D

Alot of talk about Sandgate & Noosa being biggest threats to league in 2011, has everyone forgotten Palmy, i think these guys can be the biggest threat too the top three, these guys will be fuming on their finish last year, and have a quality side.
Plus surely its time to stop making excuses about "IF SANDGATE WHERE FIT' they would have won the flag last year. what a crock of sh1t!!! they had an extra week off during finals, trained on Granges oval, and Noosa played their hardest slogged game of the year against Burleigh in the pre-lim. Thats football boys, and surely people making these comments are muture enough to understand that who plays best on the day wins.

How about Horn, i reckon he would be in top 5 highest paid.

Agree with you on PBC Checkmate, they will be a little like Geelong this year, lost gun (Bloom/Ablett) but still heaps of talent that is top class, and will always figure in the finals. Im sure every other club breathed sigh of relief when they went out early this year. I havent read to many excuses on here about injuries being the reason Sandgate lost, they were beaten by better team on the day as you said.

Any word on Cooly, Surfers or Burleigh re recruits/losses? Or the Gorillas?

Matthews,Horn,Drake,Forbes,Dugga from cooly and their ruckman Smith would all be among highest paid in comp last year.350-400 a game would be around the mark for theses guys.Reynolds a massive loss for Noosa,so slick with his ball use.Brauer very hard at it and protects the ball carrier well but not the disposal of some of the top liners like Bloom,White,Reynolds and Horn.Palmy will be right around the mark but probably need to recruit a tall forward to relieve the pressure from Drake.Noosa training as boring as bat sh1t to watch. All this core stretching, must be good for them though

Whats happening at Fishermans Rd, rumours of a mass exodus of players, heard at least 3 or 4 to arch rivals Noosa, just as many or more to Nambour where ex player Ben Stanley is coaching and the skipper is on his way to Vic. Add the loss of Ben Matthews and they have probably lost their best 4 or 5 players. That will hurt and test their depth enormously. Did hear they have picked up a good player fron Tassie but will need alot more if they want to be around the mark. How is the new coach going? has very impressive playing credentials.

Maroochy have lost a few, but people around the club are confident with the addition of under 18s, they are going to have more depth of quality kids coming through the system. Weightman and Grayson are examples of recent Maroochy juniors now playing state league or better.

They can now also offer a pathway of under 16s into division 1 under 18s, so Maroocy Juniors also hoping to pick up some good 16s to flow into 18s next year.

Rumours around Maroochy has picked up a handful of league reps from down south, as well as a couple of key position forwards and backs. Bit of cash available to spend on quality players with the retirement of B Matthews.

All reports about the coach so far are positive. Thinking that the boys who left to go to Noosa might be regretting the decision in a few weeks time when Roos are up and running and competitive. Especially if what I am hearing from Noosa is correct about one of them.

What are you hearing? Sounds juicy!

Nothing juicy at noosa as far as I know.Have heard a few Senior players a bit bored with training thus far but still are very keen on getting into the season.Maroochy should have the best junior set up on the coast but for years have been run by dills.Great to see them have an under 18s side though which is a massive boost for them and all in all good for footy on the Coast and in Queensland. The loss of White Matthews Bailey and Mills will be very hard to recover. Can`t say I`m that sad about it.Just heard that Palmy may have picked up two brothers from mildura who were Vic country reps last year. That will certainly cover for Blooms loss if correct.

Just on the pre season training side of things,do all clubs spend hours each week on core stretching and exercises and how often do you train.Noosas` pre season(as with 2010) is over 2 nights, tuesday and thursday.I reckon 3 nights at this level would be fitting with say 2 compulsory and 1 night set aside for weights, core stretching, exercises etc Not enough time spent on skills.

Noosaboy- your completely wrong and obviously stuck in the old school thinking of training - or your another Brain that wants the coaching job!
One of the hottest issues in professional football circles at the moment is something called ‘core stability’ training. Every AFL club is incorporating it in their training regimes, along with other teams in professional state leagues around Australia. State representative teams in the junior ranks are definitely using it and it’s also a big issue in other sports such as rugby, cricket, golf and even sailing.
The method of training Noosa are conducting aids in Improving performance, Injury reduction, improves development of younger players. this format of conditioning is the most effective relevent movement to game specifications.
the days of sit ups and 20km time trails are over my friend

You must be too long out of the game Buddy, 350-400 would be half of what the highest paid would be, go back a few pages in this forum to see a very realistic explenation, You will find that its not the key onballers on the big $, key position players, fullforward, CHF, ruckmen, ex -afl and ex - state league usually as they will bring people in to watch them play. Also as previously stated not all clubs pay every player, those who only have few contracted have more to offer.

Interesting to question the training techniques of a premiership side.....
Checkmate summed it up fairly simply, times have changed.

Stick to beers and banter from the sidelines rather than tips on whats boring to a spectator but maybe beneficial to the younger/older people still playing.

You may also want to get some background info on the professional people that have got on board with noosa this early, hence the different techniques being introduced.

Well since this comp consists of 9 other teams than Noosa and Maroochy, how are they going any news? Well looking forward to hopefully a reasonable even comp this year.
