Autopsy After a tight😶 half of football we steamroll Essendon by 39

My glass half full view of our slow starts is that it's tough to manufacture desperation and we haven't been a desperate team for months now.

Conversely, we've played the Lions when they were the hottest team in the comp, the Dogs who were after a finals birth, Port with their eyes on top 4, then Collingwood and the Bombers, both of whom were playing to keep their seasons alive. We into all of those games knowing that a loss would still see us on top of the ladder.

I know the problems stretch back even further than that, but even then the team knew that they could run over the top with 20 minutes of sustained effort.

It's a charitable view, but I'm optimistic they'll be switched on for finals.

I think C.Warner has to be persisted with at senior level or dont pick him, chopping and changing every week is not doing anything for him.

Either Commit to him with a decent stretch of games or dont.
Feel like he is going to get the Campbell treatment were he doesn't get to play his true position and will be played in about 5 different positions at AFL level on limited minutes. I guess thats what happens when you have a midfield of Heeney, Warner and Rowbottom

Yep, it's a problem... but in the forward half he doesn't have to run as far for as long.

I think they are managing it pretty well at the moment, but if the full team is fit and firing, the best he can hope for is Sub in my view, and that's unlikely as in general during finals you will need your sub to be able to come in in the first five minutes and play a full game. Going to be very interesting, they will need to weigh up his experience, leadership, skills and craft, against his inability to go with the speed of the game.

Awful to say, and his nous and experience has been crucial to the last couple of wins, but in my view its as sub or depth, not best 22 :eekv1::sadv1:

Luckily enough I'm not the coach, and/or on the selection committee... some very tough calls to be made in the next few weeks...
Parker kicked three goals in a team where our forwards are struggling to kick them. To my mind he stays on that alone. We carried Franklin for a lot longer with much lower forward pressure and I am guessing lower average goals per game than Parker’s output at the moment.
.

Won us the game not a stretch IMHO. We BADLY needed a forward to take contested marks and kick goals.
He did that and turned the tide in our favour. Without those marks and goals that game was going down to the wire...

And in the Swans...he is the other Isaac. Able to lift the whole team from the centre, or the middle of the park. They type of character that wins football matches by refusing to lose. He is a very big part of why Swans make finals every year, and teams like Essington don't. I hope he enjoyed his city wide conjugal rights as Lord of Sydney last night.

Yeah that's all fair , I just think Heeney was the BOG and the matchwinner. Parker's second half was massive too, so hey glad we had both 😂

Why? We're trying to win a flag and if he's 23d best some weeks so be it

He's not going to get broken or stunted playing as sub for half a year

Sounds pretty good

You checked the MLB schedule?
MLB is 162 games with potentially like what 24 for the postseason and they also have like 30 games of spring training. Thats like 210 games (yes they are alot less physical) but still they have literally no offseason

Melbourne will snaffle him.

The pitchers arms are ****ed but yeah not gruelling but fan wise there is a saturation point.

This season has felt bloody long for us , maybe because early good

Our slow starts can be solved by winning the ball out of the center. It's that simple.
Sheldrick in this week will greatly assist our starts IMO.
Either he stays in by making himself undropable, or Adams gets the two week rest his legs BADLY need and comes back in early season form.

Add Ladhams in this week to that too. Grundy needs two weeks off nearly as much as Adams.

Those two (Or Gurndy & Sheldrick) back in early season form come finals = Premiership chances through the roof IMO.

What's the big difference

Team is not great

Just more quality content from SEN
I don’t like it when more than half the teams in the league make the finals. At least with 20 teams 50% make it. It looks stupid in leagues like the A-League

I Probably should have given Mills votes really , thought he was really good as a defensive leader.

i was surprised to see from stats that mills had that many touches ... he never really stood out but watching replays and highlights, he was a lot more involved than i thought

the kid was a victim of "the stringer effect" ... a condition of painful disappointment
(kid's got lovely sparkly hair though)
Has a future in heavy metal with that hair. At least heavy metal won't disappoint him constantly.

Holy shit how? does it just run yearly lol?
They play like 3 games a week.

Also it’s less taxing on the body. Accidents when they happen are nasty, but there’s not the relentless pounding and hits of AFL.

But then the finals, the Stanley Cup, go forever, and finally their “grand final” is best out of seven.
