Cannot believe we got him honestly. We have gaps everywhere in our list but one. The one position we are fairly well of in is the ruck/forward with Grundy, Cameron and Cox.

Will have him on an 18 month deal. Meanwhile at years end they’ll move on one or both of Lynch and Cox.

So it’s wise they bring one in now. Won’t have many picks left in the ND once Daicos and Dib are taken

Club probably thought he’d go late in the ND. Clubs seem to be interested in drafting young ruckman again

#16 Aiden Begg

Gave up a bit of height in the ruck contests but still competed well, possibly even winning the bout against two really solid opponents. Has a really nice leap and ruck craft that make him a genuine chance no matter whereabouts he is positioned heading into the contest. Good around the ground as well following up strongly, using it well and setting up behind play and taking some good grabs in that role, suggesting he could play as a key defender at the next level.

Think this is a really underrated pick tbh, kid was beating Moyle and Darcy for most of the game against the Chargers. Eastern and Metro staff said he's a KPP, likely in the defensive half, at AFL level with good hands and leap.

Doesn’t Travis Cloke have some involvement with him, let him heal and rehab and build up and early pre season for next year, we wouldn’t get near a tall in next Draft

Yeah Trav is the Head Coach of the Eastern Ranges football programs

The may see him as the best option as a key forward

Yeah this is cover for Roughead. It’s a pleasing pick, IMO, given our lack of anything except speculative depth at that end of the ground.

I suspect that the two guys you say will be moved on are better than the player we have drafted.

Looked ok in contested marking in the highlights.

I’ll defer to your knowledge and judgment on this and back the kid in.

Highlights:

Even just looking at those limited highlights this kid is going to be a KPP at AFL level so it's already time to stop melting at us picking up another "ruck / forward". Which end of the ground he settles in at is going to be the question.

I was particularly impressed by the athleticism and reaction time he showed in that juggled mark on the wing, which a player at 197cm doesn't really have any right to be doing. Dropping that neat 30m kick precisely to a team mate in a fairly small gap between three opposition players also impressed.

Perhaps they see him as the best option as a KPD.

No anyone in defence who could go forward?

Not sure what all the angst is about. We wanted a KPF. We got a KP size player. Club may see more upside to this kid than Callow in the longer term.

Let’s face it, next 18 months is not important, it is the years after that which will matter. Who is better out of Callow and Begg after that is all that matters. Can’t see why it will not be Begg.
