Ash McGrath.............

So he is weighing up what he is going to do, possibly wanting to return to Fremantle as well.

It seems that we may loose nearly half of our team, is there a limit to the amount of players that you can draft? Surely we must have some $$$$ to keep Bradshaw?

IMO McGrath would be worth Freo's first pick if he was to go (13 or 14) seeing as though he was a number 13 pick, and has been pretty handy over his 5 years at the club.

this is becoming stupid !!! what the hell is goin on ?????

aka - piss off you tosser
vossey - one more please !!
michael - didnt give a toss last season - go for a top pick
braddy - keep at all costs
moody - jnr aka from the looks of it, trade him to freo. head way too big
mcgrath - whats his problem ?? could be a deal for polak here !

no more please !!!

Please fellow supporters do not panic. All that has happened so far is some of the deadwood bailing out because they sense that they may not be in the long term plans of Leigh and the club.

So lets have a emotion-less analysis.

Mal Michael - has lost the spark and the interest to be of any value to the team. Trading him now will get us a reasonable draft pick. Otherwise he eats up 350K's and denies twelve months development to a younger long term player.

Moody - His attitude clearly is not what Leigh is and has always promoted. TEAM first. He is surplus to need anyhow and we may be able to get another reasonably high draft pick for him from the WA clubs. No big loss to the fabric of the team.

McGrath - Sure I'd rather keep him, but if a first rounder is offered in this super draft I'd take it before I blink. If he goes it will mean young Hooper will get 22 games and speed up his development.

Bradshaw - certainly I would like him to stay and finish his career at the Lions. However for the past five years he has been financially rewarded well above his true value to the team. Now when he is asked to take a pay cut to a more realistic level we get the usual "Homesick" syndrome played up. Well I fear his days at the Lions has come to an abrupt end. Again he has currency and should bring in couple of high draft picks, including a first rounder.

Voss - Well there is an end to everything, including a glorious career such as Voss'. Personally I'd like him to stay another season, but we all knew this was coming so we just have to accept it and move on.

The others mentioned such as Fixter, Allen, Copeland well, we will have to delist a few more in order to elevate the rookies such as Stiller, Roe, etc... So what's the problem?

As I see it, it will all fall into place and soon after trade week we will be talking about the new recruits and the hope for the future that they will bring.

aka - obviously must get the best draft pick we can
vossy - if he wants retire let him. Shouldn't be forced into another year if he feels he is not up to it
michael - once again get the best draft pick we can, if it means keeping Braddy its got to be bye bye Mal
braddy - keep at all costs
moody - I just don't rate him as highly as others & think he has been surpassed by others that showed more later in the season. Would like to trade for Thornton of the Dockers....... if not best draft pick again
mcgrath - reading that story it appears as though there is hope that he will remain. Would like to see him stay, as long as his heart is in it.......... if not best draft pick again.

Its the beginning of a new era & was always coming.
In fact I find it quite exciting, obviously not all agree.
Lets just be smart about it & make this draft the Lions draft.

Was it only last year that Power was gone, Selwood wanted to be traded and Brad Scott was to be delisted? I'm sure that wasn't all either.

Nothing is ever set in concrete and while most rumours contain some percentage of truth (ranging from 0% to 100%), most times they turn out to be a fizzer.

What amazes me is year after year I read the same things on here.

So it just not me thinking that there is an overreaction to every ill informed big footy comment or media beat up? The fact is players stay, come and go and if a club gets fortunate we may 5-6 good solid years as we did in the glory years. The Swans have that luxury right now. The Flying Belgian, Bobby Beecroft and irel are right folks. Hang in there. Watch trade week unfold and then have fun picking your stongest 22's etc for the coming seasons. As of this point in time we do not know who may or may not be playing for us next year. A lot of our players are on contract talks as we speak and one or two we have not even thought of may very well move on.
That is footy life.

apparently wayde mills and rischitelli want to go too

One would hope they keep Copeland and Fixter. Players with some experience will be incredibily handy over the upcoming couple of seasons.

McGrath for Polak... Has a good ring to it.

Rischitelli at the end of August signed a 2 year deal, which I posted here before it was official, and how did I know ? He told me at our sponsor's dinner - his manager actually wanted a 3 year deal...so as for him leaving i'm afraid you're misinformed...

:p :)

We must smell, so many want to leave.
We need a new big can of Mum......

Seriously, its not the same every year John. This year is particularly bad.

I wonder what happens if we indeed lose
Mal,Voss,Aka, McGrath,Moody,Bradshaw,Copeland,Fixter. That would be a third of the list with the others already gone.

Are we in that much trouble with the cap as they are reporting. Why is the media saying that, what is our problem with the cap.

We will have a team of mainly under 50 game kids.No experience.Cheap as chips I suppose, but.

My opinion is if some of them do not want to stay fine. Their loss to not be playing with the greatest club in footydom. But watching the development of those who do should be fun. Our glory years were always going to cost us and we just have to live with that for a while. Agree?

There's a variety of reasons why people may want to leave a place, but when a higher than usual number wish to leave, then it makes sense to have a look at the organisation itself as well.

I remember a few of the places I've worked at, things were going pretty ok until I start hearing people complaining during their breaks, and quite a few people started to leave. I sat up and took notice, and decided that it was best for me to get out of the place as well.

Of course, there may be nothing wrong with the management at the Lions at all, but we'd be naive not to consider whether the administration played a part in so many players contemplating leaving.

The fact that Sherman and Rischitelli re-signed is a good pointer though, it shows that the club is still at least doing a few things right.

Are you seriously asking that? Why would the media try to sensationalise anything? God knows they've never done that before. While I think the cap is tight, it's not bursting at the seams like some Melbourne scribes think.

We have just over 20 contracts expire at the end of this year by my reckoning. That's a lot of renegotiation. It ain't going to happen overnight. And we have to see what happens during trade. I'm sure they're delaying things in preparation for the unlikely scenario that Jason Akermanis remains with the club.

But who actually wants to leave besides the goatee-clad one? Moody & McGrath as rumour has it. More to do with homesickness than anything you'd imagine. Freo told Moody they'd draft him originally. And you yourself claim Ash has been trying to get home for years. Braddy doesn't want to leave, but wants an upgraded contract from the club. Michael, well it's hard to tell, but he's made it clear that he'd be happy to stay if the club rearranged his commitments. As for Fixter, Bushy, etc. - they haven't said they want to leave. They just haven't been resigned as yet.

Hardly a mass exodus due to the "smelly" state of the club. As usual campbell, you're either jumping to negative conclusions or twisting situtation to back up your disenchantment with the current administration.

Please return to the North board as I reckon that is where you might have heard this about Mills.:thumbsu:

You know, the majority of the time, the media is right.
We just like to shoot the messenger.

They have been saying for months we have serious cap problems.last night again on WLF it was mentioned, its not just the Brisbane based print media who people so hate on this board that are saying it.

We have 20 players out of contract you say.
Thats half our list.We had cap issues before the re signing. What the heck is that.

Even the odd journo I have known over the years would ROFL at that one.
The Rupert ones get great delight in telling how stories are beat up by editorial demands.

well said, the only player we MUST keep is Braddy and preferably Macca. The rest are a fact of life and no loss in terms of the future success of our club.

Hehehe, someone just pulled a player out at random as a mockery to our "supporters" who keep tossing up the same contracted players of ours as trade bait for every other player rumoured to be on the market.

Not saying that he isn't worth looking out for, but that thread was more to take the urine out of our downhill skier supporters.

As to Brisbane's exodus of players, my opinion is really quite simple. Get rid of the players who do not want to be there, if you try and keep players there that do not want to be there it is like a cancer.

While player retention is important to be a successful team, you are still very much in the process of rebuilding a new era. This year is a pretty good year to lose players so grab as many good picks as you can for those that want to go and you will be better for it in the long-term.
