WESTERN Bulldogs veteran Jason Akermanis will not return to the senior side for Saturday night's clash with Port Adelaide in Darwin, though skipper Brad Johnson is expected to line up.
Coach Rodney Eade said Akermanis, who kicked five goals for VFL affiliate Williamstown last weekend, needed to work on some on-field aspects of his game before being considered for a recall.

Suprise to me that is... has a good record at the ground in those slippery conditions. Would have to say he is a little stiff given those potentially coming in do not fit the stack mould that needs replacing.

Looks like Johno will play so maybe blood a rookie this week... Jones or Hooper should play IMO.

I like it.
Although it is a surprise, we have to back Eade in his decision. He wanted Aker to play more than 2 good qtrs of footy before he earns his spot back. Lets hope Aker is jumping out of his skin and super hungry for the Freo final next week!

Aker's just going to have to suck it up.

The bottom line is, if he didn't continually keep opening his trap and sprouting nonsense he wouldn't be in this position in the first place.

I'm afraid that's true. Though I must say I enjoyed today's article about sledging. It had all the elements we'd like to see every week. Humour, a bit of an inside view of what happens at the club and on the field, not too much self-promotion - nice work, Aker.

I really hope he gets back in the team very soon.

A bit surprising given the forwards that are out, can't help but think they are really testing his commitment to be part of the team by leaving him here and seeing how he reacts both on field for Willy and off field on radio.

Yes, I tend to have that line of thinking as well. Maybe they want to prove his commitment to the cause some more before gifting him a game.

Will be interesting to see how he reacts to it. If he spits the dummy about it on his radio talk show spot tomorrow, then I wouldn't be surprised if it is all over she wrote.

If he accepts it and cops it on the chin like every other single bulldog listed player does who gets dropped or doesn't get selected, and he vows to work harder to get back, then he may get some credit points from the coaching staff and playing list.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully he gets it and sees he is still a part of bulldogs plan and there is a spot for him if he plays his cards right and takes the first option but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he did either, if he takes the second option it is all over for him.

lets just hope eade has the same rules for players like hahn etc

Seems to me like a logical move.

Aker is obviously an older player and the heat up there can be quite taxing.
Keep him fresh, let him avoid the travel, earn his stripes for another week at Willy and if he does the one-percenters bring him on against Freo.

Should be in the side, as simple as that. He is the best small forward we have at the moment. Eade wants to run him up the ground. Thats not his bag anymore. forward pocket playing 75% on the game.

Think the club are being stupid with Acker. Harness him and get the best out of him for the rest of the year. Don't play bullsh*t, childish games!

Leadership group had a go at him, what a joke. Hey leaders win 3 flags, a brownlow, kick 5 goals in a game and then tell me how to live my life. They think they can demand him to give up his media commitments. I would think its the leadership group being arrogant and not particular bright, havent they heard of contracts.

Club let him have media commitments so deal with it. Sorry if I sound harsh yet I think too many people are jumping on his back. So what if he is a bit out their in his views. He is paid for his opinions. He is no angle yet this is going on too long.

Just let him get on with playing football now!

I'm with you LB - in case nobody followed my previous attempt at humour

Unless they are actually resting him from the trip to Darwin for his own good, what more does he have to do than put in a big game and bag 5 goals for Willy.

THE turbulent relationship between Jason Akermanis and the Western Bulldogs shows no signs of abating, with the Brownlow medallist's anticipated recall to the senior team believed to have been stalled by a breach of confidence that has again put player and club at odds.
Coach Rodney Eade said yesterday he had been pleased with Akermanis's form and workrate in two games while serving a club-imposed sanction with Williamstown, but there were ''a couple of things that he just needs to work on'' which would stay between him and Akermanis.

Seems like they are off field reasons for aker not to be selected and he needs to still do some work to get the playing lists trust back.

Do we have a leading teams type organisation operating with our players? If so, does anyone know who is running it?

Aker on radio this morning said these news paper reports today are crap, no truth at all.
