It is not like if Clarkson says no we can just move swiftly to plan B, our plan B is to start to look at everyone else, the last round is this week, players are going to depart for their end of season trips.

Free Agency is September 30-October 7
Trade period is October 2-12
Draft is late November

End of this week is August 21. If you do not even have a plan on what to do if Clarkson says no how long is it going to take to put that together, how many people are you going to talk to, how long will it take, we have spent about a month on Clarkson already.

What other changes do we have to implement as part of our review, how do the other candidates fit into that. Obviously Clarkson wants to have a large say in almost everything, others will be less so but we need to have our coach in place to determine how we are going to play and what changes need to be made to our list, players who haven't signed on yet would want some certainty. How long do you think we can wait for a decision before we start plan B?
It wouldn't surprise me if the club has already made a shortlist of targets as a backup if things do indeed go south. I mean it would be negligent not to.

YALL he just wants to make sure everything is in the right place before he signs the contract.

Just get the ****ing contract typed up by someone other than the work experience person and “everything WILL BE in the right place”….!

is choco a steamed or a fried man?
Chocco sounds like an inclusive man……..

Why Dont We Have Both GIF

If we are to believe all of the ITK posting, Clarkson flew to Sydney for a fourth meeting with no intention of coaching the Giants.

If this is true, then it's very likely that he would take a meeting with Essendon out of character and professionalism. If this is the case, then I believe the quicker the meeting occurs the better it is for us given our soft deadline. In other words, I'm speculating that Clarkson would rush to meet with Essendon in order for him to give a formal rejection, before signing his deal with us.

If I'm right on this, there's going to be a lot of panic in the next 24 hours regarding Clarkson meeting face to face with the Bombers, but if that occurs it'll be a major win for us. If this drags out past next week, then it indicates Clarkson is taking his time to seriously consider Essendon's proposal.

On another topic, it sounds like GWS being ruled out has come from GWS themselves. I'd speculate this is because their own signing is imminent and they want to avoid any potential scrutiny from announcing a coach while still being viewed as in the race for Clarkson.

Oh boy, just the thought of that lengthy process. Feel for the players not knowing by year end.

But of course it’s the only way to go if Clarko says no.

We’ve certainly given Clarko enough time. Enough time to let Essendon in.

Masterstroke by Clarko’s team stringing it out.

Good to be positive eh.

Ok I just spoke to a source - he says he’s heard the deal for Clarko is $8 million over 5 years. Appears todays GWS announcement has validated Norths position and also lines up with a lot of the info already out about a possible contract signing. He’s hearing 48 hours or thereabouts for an announcement so that’s Thursday. He doesn’t believe Clarkson will be interested in Essendon after all the due diligence he’s done on North however the Essendon crap may have made Clarko/North move a couple of days earlier than they wanted.
As a final point please don’t shoot the messenger this is not my info I’m just passing this on - but my source has been sound so far. If it turns to crud what do you want me to do ………

Exactly, just because Essendon have lost their s**t and are running naked down Napier Street screeching "CLARKO DAE YE STILL LOVE US TELL US MAN TELL US YE LOVE US" doesn't mean that he or we are doing anything unprofessional.

In fact, the way GWS seem to have been communicated the news about their enquiries seems pretty professional.

I note on the Essendon board that all those who were most confident they'd escape the drug banzhammer are up in full flight again.

True, but we could be the most professional run club in the country and sadly that won't overcome the appeal of a 'big club' for many people. Not necessarily Clarko, but in general.

You look at the NBA and the name recognition and brand power of the Lakers alone compared to the smaller teams.

Personally, I'd find going to a smaller club and lifting it up to a power team infinitely more satisfying than just riding on the coat tails of an already established one.

What if his first call today was to GWS to say no, and his second call is to us to say yep, done deal.

And then after that Hendo texts whoever is in charge in theory at Needle Park right now and says thanks for your enquiry, but [insert name of client] has accepted another opportunity.
I prefer the Hypodermic Hanger myself LOL

So in other words the 1.6 mil Tom Browne reported was accurate… that Clarkson himself said was bullshit. So something isn’t adding up with the numbers.

**** me dead with this many sources you could run a Subway franchise!!!

Essendon still have a coach and we don’t.

He wouldn’t turn his back on talking for us for months and trying to get his coaching staff together just because he is friends with * CEO or president or whatever in 1 day.

The narrative really changes depending on the timeline in which we believe certain events have occurred, so some scepticism isn't entirely unjustified.

What we do know for a fact is:
GWS & North have both spoken to Clarkson
North have made an offer
GWS are no longer in the race

If we take what has been said in this thread at face value:
  • We met with Clarko in July and got a verbal agreement to coach North next year pending (window dressing)
  • 2 weeks ago Clarko flew up to Sydney to meet with GWS and told them no in person
  • The Clarkson appointment will most likely formally happen this week with an announcement

This all seems to line up with what we know has happened so far, however the * stuff does muddy the waters a little.

If GWS were told no by Clarko 2 weeks ago, why are they only letting it be known now? Could be for a few reasons.
Being a two horse race, GWS announcing anything earlier would almost certainly confirm the coaching appointment at North. Perhaps there are certain stipulations in Clarko's existing Hawks contract (which has been speculated on) which would prohibit an official coaching appointment before the end of the season, giving GWS time to get on the front foot with their own candidates in order to save a bit of face. Could just simply be professional courtesy. All plausible.

This is where it gets a little tricky though.

What else we do know for a fact is:
  • * got humiliated on the weekend
  • There are certain elements within * that would like Rutten gone
  • Rutten is currently contracted for 2023
  • * are shit campaigners that would thrown their own mothers under a bus if they thought it would give them the success they feel entitled to

If GWS were not in fact told no by Clarko 2 weeks ago and have only just learned this within the last 24 hours then the timeline starts to become a little more concerning IMO. It could be that Clarko feels comfortable officially turning down the GWS job now he has multiple options in VIC. It could be he has finally decided it's a done deal with North and was always going to make his decision this week. Or it could be worst case scenario for us and he is extremely keen on * at the 11th hour despite the fact they will need to knife an incumbent coach first.

How we feel about the sequence of events that have transpired really depends on how much ITK info we choose to believe as fact. IMO if we get to next week and hear nothing then it probably doesn't look good for us, but so far apart from the * media frenzy it's pretty much playing out in our favour.

Nothing to do but wait and see.

And wonder how you and I joined BF around the same time and I’ve posted 20 times a week on average ever since while you’ve kicked back and done most of your work in the last fortnight.

It's good to know that big name Essendon posters like Lance Uppercut are reading our board..

I mean, God, I was glued to theirs during the years long drug cheating saga that ended in 34 of their players being suspended for doping, in the darkest episode in the history of Australian sport.

Why don't we amuse ourselves while waiting for the final confirmation from Clarko by revisiting that magical time?

Which was your favourite moment? The best poster? The most amusing wigout?

Remember rines?

Alright so Clarksons is still under my control AND he will be coaching at Essendon which is unfortunate... for now...

Let's just say, an well known streak is going to continue at Essendon.

Johnny from Epping said he’d put a 100 year curse on the bombers never winning a flag if Clarko goes to Essesdon. 🤌🏼

Ok so hypothetically:

We have put an over in front of Clarko 5 years 5 million.

Clarko comes back to us and says essendon have offered him 8 million.

Do we up our offer or let him go.

Keep in mind we offered him before essendon were in the hunt.

They will carry Rutten's money into their 2023 softcap.

In case people aren't aware, the softcap works as follows:

If you go under $100,000 over the softcap then you pay an extra 75% on that amount.
If you go between $100k and $250k over it is 100% extra in year one, 150% extra in year 2 and 200% extra in year 3.
If you go between $250k and $500k over it is 150% extra in year one, 225% extra in year 2 and 300% extra in year 3.
If you go more than $500k over then it is 200% extra in year one, 300% extra in year 2 and 400% extra in year 3.

Lets say Rutten is only getting $600k a year and that puts Essendon at the softcap then 8m over 5 years is 1.6m and say 1 million over the cap and 1.6m over in 2023 because they have to pay Rutten out.

They would have to pay softcap tax of $3.2m in 2023, $3m in 2024 and $4m in 2025. We don't know what would happen beyond year 3 because nobody has been dumb enough to go over cap.

That would turn his $8m over 5 years into $15m by year 3.

Part of me indulges the fantasy that Clarko has already made his mind up to join us and is now effectively an active shooter at Tullamarine doing as much damage to the enemy as he can before he even starts with us.
Yeah my imagination puts me at gameday him walking around at the Adelaide Oval, our fans cheering on LDU, happy to see Cunners back, getting done but just happy to see some general improvement.
Pops into marvel to see * and Port play, listens to the crowd, swearing at half their players telling them they’re useless, watching no one tackle man up and coping boos as most of their fans leave at half time.

Only to get a phone call on Monday with a million in cash on the table, saying if you take the meeting, it’s yours.

8 mil?
8 means it’s 1.6 a year and I can’t see how over 20% of the soft cap is being spent on him. I reckon maximum a million a year.
