I spoke to a long term Hawk member today. He would never forgive Clarkson if he chose essendope. I believe, although it’s anecdotal, this would be the general consensus of Hawks members. They’ll abuse him, they’ll turn on him.
Let's not encourage it. Clarkson the player didn't care too much about people turning on him.

Would really like us to look at Ashley Hansen if Clarko falls through. Reckon he’s the diamond in the rough amongst the untried bunch.
No untried coaches. Its too ruthless for our club and new coaches to handle. Seasoned coach is what we need next.

People might spray me, but I personally am partial to KH if Clarkson falls through.

Port Adelaides list is ****ing shit. He had Wines and Grey and thats pretty much it.

At his sportsman’s lunch today Sheedy was talking about what a great coach Hird* would be.
That's a great idea. Surprised nobody has thought of him before. They should give him a go. It might not work out - but what's the worst that could happen...?

The ABC News just had a report on the Clarko situation - showed the clip of Patch pointing out Clarko's history with the club and pretty much left it at that. No bullsh*t, no bluster, no hypothesizing, no hyperbole. Just the facts. God bless, Aunty.

North Melbourne and Essendon are expecting Alastair Clarkson to decide his club of choice for 2023 by the weekend.

The Kangaroos had hoped to hear from Clarkson’s camp about his intentions for next year by Wednesday, but the Hawthorn premiership coach flew to Adelaide for personal reasons.

It’s understood the Kangaroos were told of Clarkson’s interstate trip, but the next 48 hours will be crucial as Clarkson makes a final call on the two job offers.

The North Melbourne board met Wednesday night where it was decided they would remain all in on Clarkson, parking any discussion about a plan B.

Clarkson spoke to Channel 7 Adelaide and when asked about when he would make a decision on his future he said: “It is secondary to what I am dealing with in terms of my mates and what that community has got to deal with.”

“Let’s keep everything in perspective.”

The Bombers on Wednesday were continuing their talks with Clarkson’s management about taking over from embattled coach Ben Rutten as the week of drama continued at Tullamarine.

New Essendon president David Barham told Bombers’ staff over email on Wednesday he had spoken to Rutten and the senior leadership group about the senior coaching situation.

Clarkson has indicated he is interested in continuing his brilliant coaching career at Essendon after winning four premierships at Hawthorn.

Rutten will take Essendon training on Thursday, likely front a press conference on Friday and is expected to coach the Bombers against Richmond on Saturday at the MCG.

If the Bombers sack Rutten the club faces a payout of about $600,000 which must be included in the club’s soft cap along Clarkson’s salary for next year.

It is believed Clarkson would be paid about $1.1 million a year at his next club. His close mate, and former Hawthorn premiership assistant coach Todd Viney, is expected to be his right-hand man at his new club, in a Neil Balme-style role.

The waiting game over Clarkson comes as Kangaroos’ legend Wayne Carey said Clarkson’s character would not allow him to backflip on joining the Roos after one month of talks.

The Roos have spoken exclusively with Clarkson about replacing former coach David Noble.

“I’d be very surprised knowing Clarko – knowing the way he conducts himself – I’d be very surprised if he did a backflip,” Carey said on Triple M.

“I know a lot of people thinks he will but I’d be very surprised if he did a backflip just knowing what type of character he is.

“I can’t remember a coach that’s been given so much fanfare about being able to choose where he wants to go and had so many clubs want his services.

“He’s been sitting, waiting for a year – we know all of that but this has never happened in my time.”

Sbs is the only reputable news source these days. ABC and Ita need to part ways

Very highly rated

Did Clarko actually say Rutten or is this Tom Browne assuming?

If he said Rutten then we're f'd as there is no reason to be respectful if your answer is no.

I'm not saying I want Lyon.

I don't.

Do you think Clarkson won the Premierships, or a group of absolute gun players at his disposal? (like iceman Thompson and Cats)

However the statistics (outside Premierships yes) are actually very similar.

If we couldn't get Clarkson I wouldn't mind Lyon, not because I like him but because he would address structural problems that we can't seem to fix internally, namely development.

You can't have gun players without great development. Look at the midfield talent we have on our list and our go-to plan when we win a clearance is to shank a high inside 50 to someone outnumbered 3:1 or to go for a midget in the pocket. You need development, physically, psychologically and develop how to move the ball.

My concern is Lyon has a limitation, he has struggled to take a team with talent and stars to the top of the podium. Maybe he has learnt, maybe he hasn't. I'd rather get to a GF and lose than to struggle in the bottom half of the ladder torching talent.

Wins/losses doesn't mean a whole lot though. Brad had a W/L record of 50%, I wouldn't want him back.
