Can't go for another untried coach after the last two, but also can't go for an experienced coach because of Pagan and Malthouse at Carlton.
Just highlights the ridiculous level to which the AFL media commentary has sunk.

Apart from Hawthorn, every AFL club would take Clarko in a heartbeat.

The usuals suspects trying their usual salty spin , there are so many of these “ journalists“ who look at every aspect of our club in a negative way . Never forget these people . Even Nathan Brown taking the piss even though he achieved nothing and left his club for more coin . S**t stains

Can’t stand the TJ view of this (and he’s not alone). 6 weeks ago it’s “there’s no way they’ll be able to land Clarko” and now that it looks like we’ve got him, it immediately switches to “oh gee, is he the answer for them? Big risk”.
They hate the fact we might become relevant again

If the media narrative since Clarko left the Hawks is to be believed, up until it seemed more likely than not that he would end up North, he was the hottest coach available, clubs should be working out a way to sack their coach just to have their hat in the ring, a patch of good form was unfortunate as it made it harder to justify bumping the incumbent coach and making a play for Clarko. Probably a bit over the top, but he was certainly hot property.

It seems the media's salty last resort now is to faithfully report GWS's line about him not being their clear first choice and they are interested in a range of possibilities (makes you wonder why they begged the AFL for extra $$$, it they weren't really that interested!) and Clarko potentially ending up at North, is only due to him having no other option and an offer from the Marby Lions Reserves would have probably been more appealing. No way they could actually acknowledge he is clearly the most in demand coach available and it is a helluva a coup for the bottom placed team to on the brink of signing him.

Now the narrative is already how much of a gamble it is. The nature of the competition, probably unfairly, measures success as winning premierships and everything else as pretty much failure, pretty tough measurement in a comp of 18 teams! There's only one premiership coach each year, and on that measure, there are far more "failed" coaches than successful. We have just had two untried coaching appointments, that even on a far more generous criteria of assessment, would still be judged as complete failures. Any coaching appointment is going to involve risk, there are no guarantees. But a coach that has managed to win 4 flags already, surely is less of a risk than the gamble on another untried coach. All the self important media hacks talking about the risk, are offering nothing as an alternative, if it is such a risky, ill-advised appointment, put yourself on the line and state what should be being done instead!

"Damo" has definitely changed his language and they way he talks about the roos in the last week or so. The other panellists set him for his usual s***-caning of us but then took a more balanced view.

On a side note... there is something very strange about the proportions of his face. His nose is at the same height as the bottom of his glasses and the gap between the bottom of his nose and top of his lip is comically large. Once you've seen it... you can't unsee it!!

" First time coach Yze outsmart's the Master-coach as GWS kick an after the goal siren from a dubious free kick and 100m penalty at Metricon in rd.1 "

Damian Barrett.
Did you see that ump award a 150m penalty against the freo player yesterday?

Is that even a thing?

It wasn't 3 X 50m. He awarded the 150 in a single go.

Purple kind of admits Clarko is coming to north and GWS are not in the box seat but then proceeds to put a negative light on it, saying Malthouse, Dennis all went to new clubs and were failures so no guarantees (which is fair point)

But cant you just be positive about north for once you miserable ****?
Nah. That was on TJ. The point in itself is not an inaccurate one and everything he said was positive.
