I'd call him something else, which also includes the words "from behind", but don't want to be banned from this board

Perfect little summary by Joey Montagna last night when talking about the Dogs zone vs Freo this year. Sums up a massive issue we had this year.

"That's the issue when you zone. When you play a zone you're relying on each other, so as soon as one person breaks down, the whole thing breaks down."

Thinking of this from a North perspective, there were numerous times where we'd have more than one player "break down" and thus our zone didn't work at all. Not sure if it was more understanding of what was required, no role consistency or just laziness of a few (or a combination of these and/or other factors).

This is where I think Clarko will get this part right. It'll then come down to the cattle executing once they know what their roles are each and every week.

There was an excellent long audio segment maybe on SEN a few years ago where they had a group of players/ex-players discussing premiership coaches over the years, working their way through chronologically. They were talking from personal experience and breaking down what a particular coach implemented differently.

Iirc Josh Gibson covered Clarkson. He said the training was very game specific, that he'd never seen drills broken down to such small contextual elements of game including how to play at a particular time and state of a game.

May be distorting the details a bit but think he was saying Clarkson's training innovation was in that area, rather than outright "train harder" etc. Obviously there would've been cultural standards set also but that wasn't what was cited as his unique coaching skill.

Caught up with the Viney interview on his quote from Clarkson when asked if Clarko was still up for the challenge - “I want to win another one”.
Just one.

Buyers remorse
