I’d say there is finite time to structurally replace Mason Cox who will play as a 34 year old next year.If by “useless degree” you mean he’s got one of those sports scholarships that mean he doesn’t have to attend any classes - yeah, I agree. And I’ve pointed that out. But didn’t they get clamped down on at one stage a few years back?
But if it’s not that, then an education is an education. And he’s training in a high performance environment.
What’s the rush? It’s not as if we’re screaming out for yet another 21 yo ruckman to run around the VFL?
It’s hard to say without seeing Condon play, but a big part of Cox’s value is his extreme height which makes defenders panic, an attribute that Condon shares.
I’d say that he won’t want to waste any time either. Every preseason, every year of development he misses is time he won’t get back. With a degree in social sciences, this will almost certainly be the only period of his life his earning capacity could be 500K-1M a year. The gap between success and failure is razor thin, and he’s already behind the 8-ball compared to other players his age…
If I were him, I wouldn’t be wasting another minute. It might make all the difference.
