Daniel Wells is the obligatory poor selection for this year. Always seem to be one or two at least.

Seriously? Out of the players, Wells?

Although Franklin hasn't had a year compared to his high standards, he has still had a good year when compared to league standards. And is deserving of a spot in the 40 man squad.

As posted in the other thread, his averages stack up with the best KPF's in the league.

All these players bar Tippett made the team.

If you want to get upset over a KPF getting in, look at Cameron or Kennedy.

Cameron? Are you mental? He's probably the most deserving key forward to get a spot. He's in a team that gets about 10 inside 50's a game.

Popularity contest.

Leuenberger, Rockliff and Hanley would all be in if they were at Melbourne clubs.

Richmond players stiff to miss out as well.

Gibson & Roughead have both been outstanding and deserve to make the final team, despite Gibson's year being not quite as good as his past two (largley because he hasn't had to play a lone hand thanks to Lake's presence) he's still been a rock down back for us.

Mitchell is down on his past couple of years having spent far less time in the center but we've won so many games he probably deserves the inclusion. Not sure his year warrants a spot in the final team though, there are so many other great mids going around competition is very stiff.

Franklin has been extremely patch and has played plenty of downright terrible games. I'm surprised he was nominated but then again its not like there are that many big names tall forwards going around.

Hodge is the real lucky one I feel. He's played some very good games for us but generally I don't feel like his year has been anything special. He's the kind of player though that when he gets the ball you tend to notice it.

Birchall & Bruest would've been locks for the final AA team if Birch hadn't got injured and Bruest's form hadn't abandoned him in the second half.

Birchall no way. He started like a house on fire and then opposition clubs started to shut him down and he struggled big time.

Find it pretty unbelievable andrew walker didnt make the 40. was in everyones AA side about 2/3rds of the way through the season and while dropped off a little has still been very good. Some still get in on reputations i see.

Other than him though, no Carlton player would have been close. Those saying Simpson a week or 2 ago would have forgotten about his very poor first half. Though going on the selections he probably should have made it haha

alex rance has had a good year in defence and dan jackson probably could of got a gig in the top 40 , surely eric makenzie is just gerard healy putting in an eagle for the sake of it his love for them is undeniable suprised to not see naitanui in it

Did you actually watch any of the Eagles this year? Easily one of the best key defenders in the comp and was by far our best player all year. Completely deserving nomination.

Why do you think Boak will struggle?

I will be shocked if he is not in the squad. Has been one of the most consistent midfielders this season and arguably the best 4th quarter player.

They will pick 9 or 10 mid fielders

Ablett, Selwood, Fyfe, Pendlebury, Swan, Jack, Kennedy and Griffen to me all start ahead of Boak. Their numbers are better than Boak's. If he gets in he will be named on the bench IMO.

Pretty good squad, the only ones I wouldn't have would be Watson, Dangerfield and Josh Kennedy (Sydney version)

is your Watson omission to do with you objecting him to be there because you believe he took prohibited drugs or you don't believe his onfield performance warranted it?

Absolutely flabbergasted that Steven Morris didn't even get a look in. He is the best lock down small defender in the AFL this year, and has had less than 20 goals kicked on him this season. No, he doesn't get a lot of the ball, but when you play as a backman, your job, first and foremost is to shut your opponent down. He has done this BETTER than anyone this season. Just goes to show how much the AFL really want to fill the back pockets and HBF with midfielders who didn't make the bench.

There's usually always surprises in the top 40, but don't think they have really made many (if any) mistakes. It's the final 22 they usually make a few stuff ups.

Liberatore has 0.9 more clearances per game, a disposal efficiency of 72.3 vs 64.8, 1.1 more effective disposals per game, 1.6 more tackles per game, but purely as an inside midfielder, somehow JP Kennedy has had a better year.
