The key stats:

More kicks
More handballs
More disposals
More marks
More tackles.
Gosh. Essendon must be on top of the ladder. Along with Freo, because they got Lachie Neale.

And Brisbane, because they got themselves a real accumilator in their captain. Say, why isn't Tom Rockliff mentioned more? He has more possessions per game than Selwood. Therefore he is a better player and a more effective captain. Because of possession count.

Coaches votes
121 Patrick Dangerfield (Geel)
93 Rory Sloane (Adel)
90 Dustin Martin (Rich)
88 Marcus Bontempelli (WB)
86 Luke Parker (Syd)
86 Joel Selwood (Geel)
83 Dan Hannebery (Syd)
82 Luke Shuey (WC)
77 Robbie Gray (PA)
69 Josh Kennedy (Syd)
69 Josh Kennedy (WC)

I'm not saying he wasn't stiff just that you're barking up the wrong tree for an omission. Selwood flew under the radar because of the attention his new teammate garnered. He had an elite season also.

Yes. You are wrong.

I.E. Compare captain Gazza to captain Selwood. Both have left an imprint on their respective sides. One is a tough professional outfit. The other is feeble and can't do without it's superstar.

Maxwell was captain in 2010. Harley in 2009. How does selwood compare to them?

Fair enough you are both right. I had perhaps viewed the award with greater aura than it deserves. The award is quite simply the best captain of the captains named. Some years there is a couple to choose from, this year (like last i think?) there was only one, so Selwood won by default.

Reading the paper this morning Tarrant is really still to miss. Since round 12 he has been huge.

He had 9 goals kicked on him in the last 12 weeks. 4 from Kennedy - take that out and its 5 goals in 11 games.

Had a great year was stiff not to make my alternate side

B: B.Stratton, J.Frawley, T.Duryea

HB: G.Birchall, J.Gibson, S.Burgoyne

C: B.Hill, S.Mitchell, I.Smith

HF: J. Sicily, R.Schoenmakers, J.Lewis

F: L.Bruest, J.Gunston, P.Puopolo

Foll: B.McEvoy, L.Hodge, L.Shiels

Inter: B.Hartung, J.Ceglar, B. Whitecross, K. Langford

This season was close to enrights best season. More deserving of all australian this year then in many of the other years he has won. I think he is an overrated player but this year he really did deliver.
Enright is an all time great but it was nowhere near his best year. Has slowed down and doesn't give the same amount of drive off HB as in his prime. Looked slow when the Blues/Pies beat them.

Scott hiding him from Patton on the weekend can't of helped.

What's the point of having one of the best key defenders if a key forward rapes a medium defender under his nose.

This has never been said before on these forums but I think they got it right. Pretty close to what I would've selected bar a few very justifiable changes.

Surprised Selwood got a game let alone captain. Did the selectors have trouble separately the 3 swans mids so just put them all in? To say all 3 had better years than some of those that missed is a big call.

Robbie Tarraant...stiff.

the whole team looked slow, and the same against the saints.

he has had a standout year. Will be top 5 in the Geelong B&F.

team is simply a recognition of who was the best in each role thst year. It is not a team that plays someone else. If so the team would look very different and the captain would be one of the better players in the team.

Who the hell knows. What is a good onfield leader? We have no idea of what they say or how they direct players in the field. Again though the award is given to existing captains for their performance as a captain. Cant give it to a player who wasnt a captain. It would be like naming dangerfield in the ruck.

he never gave drive or was fast. He is one of the best interceptors that game has seen though and his second half of the year was phenomenal. The best half season he has ever played.
