Was Boyd really better performed than Simpson, Doc and Laird? Or even Tarrant if they are throwing a defender on the bench. I barely saw a single person on here or in the media put Boyd in their AA team until he got in the actual one last night. I know he holds up statistically but I don't think he provides the drive that any of the above do, and I don't think the Bulldogs defence was held together by an individual as much as a game plan that saw a team with great attacking flair (Bont, JJ, Stringer, Dalhaus, etc.) become ultra defensive.

Selwood was always making this team, how are people surprised. The captain title means very little in this team IMO. He would not have been in the first 7/8 picked, but someone has to be captain and he is an obvious candidate. I'm actually of the opinion that this is one of their better efforts, there are no deplorable decisions. Some can be debated, but even the one that I disagree on in Boyd, it's fair to say he had a very good season.

Lol - Lachie Neale massacres the possies each game and obliterates the disposal record, and doesn't even get a look in on your wanky poll

Cos #freoshit
He isn't in the poll because he made the squad.

the whole team looked slow, and the same against the saints.

he has had a standout year. Will be top 5 in the Geelong B&F.

Top 3. Our 3 selected will be streets ahead of the crowd.

Modern football appraisal basically comes down to one thing; numbers. Commentators, fans, panels and so on and so forth seem to be captivated by them. I gave up caring about most awards (other than the AFLPA/AFLCA awards because these people possess a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of players) many years ago. Usually, most awards are given to frame narratives the AFL and their clubs can build campaigns around.

Read the list of players - the poll was for the players that didn't make the AA squad. Had nothing to do with the team.

Matthew Boyd......

How is that relevant? Its a different conversation entirely.

Agree that Boyd is one of the more questionable choices in the line-up. Selwood the most questionable given position and captaincy. Dont think actual captaincy should be relevant to the role in the team, more leadership attributes expressed throughout the season.

Held our decimated backline together for the entire season, a backline that is also one of the stingiest in the competition despite our personnel losses. Boyd has been massive this year.

Selwood has been better than Boyd. I think Boyd was a surprising selection but a good one, BUT if people are going to look for a player to take out, it isn't Selwood...

STP18 I think we need a nice write up on Joel for the crowd here, those that should consider themselves fortunate to kneel at the alter of the great one, the All Australian Captain.

Are you talking about 5x All Australian player, 3x All Australian captain, 3x Premiership player, 3x Geelong BnF winner, 4x AFLPA Most Courageous, 2007 Rising Star and AFLPA Best First Year player, 2014 Captain of Australia?

Is there anyone more qualified to be named '2016 AA Captain' than Joel Selwood?
