Has he been better than Motlop? I'd say it's very close between the two of them for a half forward spot and the way these things work, Motlop would get the 'plays in a top four team' benefit of the doubt. But Motlop is not getting any AA love at the moment. People also seem to have cooled off Enright in here, after he was all the rage in the early weeks...not really sure why.
Motlop hasn't been consistent enough for this early in the season. Last few weeks he's done well.

As in the last six weeks after a bad first two rounds?

If Motlop hasn't been consistent enough to be AA after the first two months, neither has Selwood.

Their seasons have actually been very similar: very ordinary in Rounds 1-2, outstanding ever since, with one ok/average game in there (Selwood in Round 8, Motlop in Round 5).

That's probably why I haven't suggested Selwood would be AA either.

But if you think both should be in there don't let a random Internet opinion influence you.

Morris Rance Rampe
Shaw Grundy Docherty
Dangerfield Hannebery Hunter
Riewoldt Franklin Waite
Betts Lynch Zorko
Goldstein Ward Parker
Selwood Viney Gawn M.Boyd

NicNat hard to leave out.
Not sure how you have Ward & Parker over Mitchell, Parkers last 2 weeks have been putrid.
I'm sure Parker will bounce back this week though.
Grundy? Seriously? Who has he played on and beaten?

Not having a go at you personally; it's more a perception that most people probably wouldn't bat an eyelid with Selwood being included in the team, while Motlop wouldn't be considered by many of the same people, due to 'a lack of consistency'.

It's not like Motlop (or Selwood) has been up and down: he started slowly, pulled his finger out and has been phenomenal for six weeks now. I think six straight weeks without a performance worse than 'ok' (and with multiple BOG-worthy performances) is consistent enough over two months and I reckon if Motlop or Selwood had been injured for the first two weeks, they'd both be in there, so not really sure what the difference is.

Harsh on Mitchell, Gibson & Frawley.

Mitchell missed 1 game and was mediocre on the weekend. Before that he would've been in the team but has dropped out.
Frawley missed 1 game and was knocked out in another.
Gibson missed 1 game and was only average vs Adelaide and GWS.
Stratton got beat by Betts and S Johnson and was poor vs Geelong

And if our defence is so great then teams wouldn't average 97 points against us.

Stratton towelled up Betts after 1/4 time. From memory i thought Johnson kicked a number of goals on Hodge

All good, I approach AA a bit differently to everyone else. I only comment on performance that has continuously been in the top of the competition. If someone has not performed the entire season at a high level then there's too much chance someone could push them out. Plenty of players have played well, it shouldn't be a slight on them.

Selwood would be in Motlop would not, very inconsistent but might get a 8-9 this round

2016 Season
1 Haw Made mistakes at times. One goal but efficiency well down overall. 3
2 GWS Started well but effort petered out. Fumbled at times and didn’t hit the scoreboard. 3
3 Bris Best game for year netted 10 inside-50s, two goals and five clearances. Handy return to form. 7
4 Ess Two goals and buzzed around. Four inside-50s but failed to lay tackle. 5
5 Port Even performance. One goal and set up a couple of others. Handy without starring. 6
6 GCS Three goals, great ball use and seven inside-50s a highlight of a solid and steady performance. 7
7 WCE Huge effort. Three goals in second term put a gap on Eagles. Ended with four and six inside-50s. 8

Who's giving those ratings? Red Symons?

Just for the sake of clarity, in the official reports, he's been named best on ground against West Coast, second best against Adelaide, third best against Gold Coast, fourth best against Port Adelaide and fifth best against Essendon and Brisbane. In other words, he's been in Geelong's best five players for the past six weeks (all comprehensive victories) and in Geelong's best three in the past three weeks. And someone's giving him fives and sixes for these performances?

They're Inside Football ratings I believe and they're horrible beyond giving a general gist of a game.

Best Player lists aren't listed in order. Even if they were, Selwood was unanimous BOG by the coaches against WC - both lists are subjective.

Fair enough, I'd suggest that the best player lists, at least in Geelong's case, are pretty clearly in an order and that I don't think it's a coincidence that the first player mentioned in Geelong's best players list every week this year at the very least had a case for being the best Geelong player that week and that the players that appear later in the list had more 'honourable mention' type games. And I'd also suggest that either way, they're a more accurate indicator than Motlop getting fives and sixes for good games and sevens for games where he was outstanding.

Any love for Docherty? Wow he has been good from a Carlton fans perspective. Hope he starts getting the league wide respect he deserves.

Them key defender spots are gonna be hard this year, same as key forward spots.

Nic Nat dominated today, against an in form Hickey. Set up the win magnificently, barely played in the last quarter along with a few others for a short turnaround to next week. Should be in the team, with McGovern/Shuey maybe/Kennedy maybe in the squad, and that's probably it for us at this stage.
Yeah, his first quarter was great when the Eagles were romping. I don't know how many hitouts to advantage he finished up on, but I do know that his first 5 hitouts of the game were all to advantage. As I said before, it's a shame he only plays 68% of the game most weeks (though I understand why he does) - would love to see what his stats would look like with even just 80% TOG.

Gawn is still the AA ruckman for mine but Nic Nat would be in 2nd place now.

I'd be surprised if Nic Nat ends up AA, he's clearly being game managed now, he sat for extensive periods in the second half against the Saints.

Would rather they ease his workload so he's fit come finals than have him chase AA. Can afford to do this now with Lycett able to hold his own in the ruck ,the fact Sinclair couldn't do it last year contributed to Nic Nat's poor finish.
