Re: AA Selection. Foley or Judd?

He's been good, no doubting that, but he hasn't done enough to deserve an AA spot.

FWIW, at the moment I'd have:
Ablett
Kerr
Harvey
Chad Cornes
Bartel
Scott Thompson
Sam Mitchell

as the AA midfielders.

Hard to argue with that lot, though Cornes could possibly be named at CHB in the absence of any standouts playing that position.

The back pockets and half back flankers are going to be 4 of the most contested spots in the team this season. I'm interested to see if people would have Darren Milburn in their team. He's been highly consistent for about 5 years in that defense, so he should have the runs on the board.

Who would you pick for 4 out of this group though?

Jed Adcock - 20.5 disposals, 4.7 marks, 4.4 tackles.
Darren Milburn - 22.4 disposals, 6.8 marks, 2.2 tackles.
Tarkyn Lockyer - 23.3 disposals, 8.9 marks, 2.7 tackles.
Heath Shaw - 19.7 dispsoals, 6.5 marks, 2.8 tackles.
Andrew McLeod - 23.8 disposals, 3.7 marks, 1.9 tackles.
Nick Malceski - 21.3 disposals, 6.6 marks, 2.9 tackles.
Roger Hayden - 16.6 disposals, 5.5 marks, 2.5 tackles.
Jess Sinclair - 22.4 disposals, 5.7 marks, 3.4 tackles.
Sam Fisher - 21.3 disposals, 9.9 marks, 1.2 tackles.

I'd probably go Adcock, Milburn, McLeod and maybe Lockyer or Fisher.

Adcock, Mcleod, Fisher would be my choices from that list. The other I'd be considering is Campbell Brown on a HBF, challenging Lockyer. Milburn, no. Too many Cats players in contention to fit him in, besides, wouldn't have him in front of the others.

My Team:

B: Heath Shaw, Darren Glass, Brian Harris

HB: Chad Cornes, Matthew Scarlett, Jed Adcock

C: Simon Black, Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett

HF: Brent Harvey, Matthew Pavlich, Lance Franklin

F: Brad Johnson, Jonathon Brown, Brett Ebert

FOLL: Dean Cox, Nathan Foley, Scott Thompson

INT: Hamish McIntosh, Cameron Ling, Peter Bell, Andrew Carazzo

The final two spots + H-Mac I wasn't too keen on. Jeff White was close to selection as was Rutten, who will only miss out because he has been injured. Glass is fairly lucky to get a game. I decided to put Scarlett at CHB because he deserves selection and alot of the time Glass/Scarlett will play there so they can take the oppositions number one forward.

Feel free to criticise and pick my team apart.

Wow Kerr's not even on the bench  I got no problems though, each their own :p
Finally a like minded person with Ebert lol (even though your a Port supporter so it doesn't really count :p)

I'm trying to do it for the afl.com comp thing, bloody pain in the arse because it's putting Heath Shaw at full back and Scarlo back pocket...not what I want. Anyway it's bloody hard:

B: H.Shaw M.Scarlett J.Adcock
HB: D.Milburn C.Cornes T.Lockyer
C: D.Kerr S.Mitchell K.Cornes
HF: B.Harvey M.Pavlich S.Thompson
F: B.Johnson J.Brown S.Johnson

Kerr could maybe replace Bell but I feel the rest of my players have been a tad more consistent.

Put a line through Judd...needs at least 2 weeks off. He's just one of many blokes limping to the tape and was as useful as a street sign today.
What about Luke Hodge? Are you still against him, Bollox?
He still hasn't played a bad game. He is good every week.
I can't believe that no one even considers our best footballer for selection.

He is a victim of his own versatility. If he played a lone-hand on-ball, he'd get 35 touches every week and there'd be no argument. That's what people go for this type of stuff. All the flashy, obvious stuff. I reckon most people don't even notice Hodgey's best work in the packs: the quick gives, the monster tackles, shepherds and blocks. Oh well....

I'd have him in MY best 22 for 2007.
F**k the dreamteam, supercoach All-Australian team.

Let's talk Darren Milburn. Should have been in a number of sides but doesn't have a position.

All for Geelong players being in there but Chappy hasn't played enough to be in there. No Pav? Second in the goal kicking, would have him well ahead of Riewoldt.

I agree with you mate. I thought that after I posted my own team.

Like all the other sheep, I've put guys like McLeod and Judd in there without really thinking.
Even 3/4 fit, Judd is a lay down misere. Unfortunately he is only half fit.
Will the selectors pick him on the strength of his first half of the season?
It's happened before... Robert Harvey was awesome in 1999, but only played 13 or 14 games.

McLeod just looks so damn good when he's on that it's hard not to be swayed by the 6 or 7 brilliant games he's played.
Over the season (and for the past 2 seasons) Darren Milburn has probably been more solid at half back than McLeod. He hasn't been as pretty to watch, but he's performed better defensively, shut down his opponents and given the Cats great drive into their forward 50m.

He'll be unlucky to miss, but he wouldn't be the first. There have been some good consistent footballers who have missed out over the years because of a perceived class deficiency (M Michael, D Chick, M Johnson, N Holland, T Edwards, J Misiti, S Burns, F Brown)

Foley is a shoe in Pheonix. Most people have no idea on here and just copy the common view. Foley is top 10 in the AFL this year and would walk into the midfield of any team.
So which of Cousins, Judd, Kerr would he replace at West Coast or who of Ablett, Bartel & Corey/Ling would he be ahead of at Geelong.
Foley has been great for Richmond but its still only Richmond I would say that he walk inot any teams best 22 or even best 18 not straight into there starting Midfield.

When comparing Foley at the same age only Judd and Kerr were as good in your list above.

btw Foley number 1 in clearances in the AFL. No 1 in sharking opposition ruckmen in the AFL - GUN.
