I would have Clark ahead of Ryan, but maybe that’s just me.

Oh and when has Caleb ever lined up on the wing for us?
I'd have Clark as being one of the most critical improvements to our team, and I'd personally pick him before Ryan, but Ryan is just very good at everything and stops a lot of serious attacks.

We all know the wing positions are used for additional centre bounce midfielders in most cases, they don't get the acknowledgement.
Sharp won't even get close the squad, and I've loved what he's done for us as a real winger.

That time of the season again, and the boffins at big-AFL (not to be confused with BigFooty) have three Dockers in their All-Australian team at the half way point of 2024. Luke Ryan was a unanimous selection from the 9 people that picked teams, while Caleb Serong & Alex Pearce made 8 of the 9 teams.

if we win a few more games, Jordy will get noticed. No Reid? The West must be gutted lol

Squad:
Ryan, Pearce, Clark, Serong, Sharp, Treacy

Think we're a chance for the first 4 in selection, Sydney will own the front half.
Sharp won't be in the squad, he's a Perth boy that's played for GC and Freo. Selectors be more like Jeremy Who?

But I agree Ryan, Pearce, Clark, Serong. Treacy borderline. They'll look at goals kicked, not influence on the game, and unless he's Top 4 in the Coleman, he's unlikely to get a look in.

Jeremy was completely invisible in that list of 'best recruits' - according to that list we had nobody

Clark should be there too but people will find it difficult to squeeze 4 Freo players in, even if they are all deserving.

Looking at the start of this thread we only had Brayshaw in the mid year 2022 team and most people agreed that is fair, because the performances behind him were very even. Even though we were top 4 this time in 2022.
This year we have 4 standout performers for AA, sometimes that’s just the way it is.

Jake Waterman? He is going well this season but has only played a handful of decent games. I would be surprised if he even made the squad for the real AA team.

I think that we will have four inthe initial squad.Pearce, Ryan, Serong and Clark.

I am not sure how many will make the cut, but not a bad represetation for the club I reckon. A smokey may be Sharp.

Good to see Blakey is this years token "plays in a good team and does some memorable stuff" basket.

I would argue that Gulden shouldn't be in the side either. At least not on the bench. It might seem strange logic, but I think he should be either in the 18 as starting wing, or not in the side at all (no wings on the bench). Errol is behind in coaches votes and SC scoring compared with Rowell, Anderson, Butters, Treloar, Horne-Francis, Dawson, Walsh. The latter had a late start, but I think he'll be in the side by the end of the year.

I am expecting the Victorian selectors will push the AA side at the end of the year to have only one Freo player in it unless we finish in the top couple of sides. For example Weitering will be put in over Pearce if Carlton finish higher. And Serong will be put on the bench and guys like Gulden/Butters/Cripps/Walsh are put into the starting 18.

I would asterisk that a lot of those are inflated for Clark with minimal game impact because of his we play. Would be interesting to compare to more impact full stats like inside 50, score assists, and metres gained.

I went ahead and did it Taylor and Clark is actually comfortably ahead on inside 50s and just being on metres gain (like 8m). The only area he seems to meaningfully be behind Blakey is scoring

I think that 8m of metres gained is taken up by the fact that Blakey takes 4.4 kickins c/f Clark’s 2 per game. Also looking at the defensive stats Clark has slightly more tackles (1.9 vs 1.5) but nearly double the “pressure acts” (11.5 vs 6.2) particularly in the back half (8.7 vs 4.1)
