Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Not making any definitive statement is hardly surprising when it is not even 2012 yet.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Scott Pendlebury has always struck me as single minded determined person who will do what he thinks is right for him no matter what the outcome.

He is young and talented probably the best young player going around,he handles the media well and I think you can build a team and club around him.

To be honest I am not surprised he has handled this issue in this manner I don,t think he will let this detract from his football in any way.He has 8 to 10
years left and at the end of it if he stays he may well be the best player the club has ever had better even than Buckley unthinkable I know but at his present playing form quite conceivable.

Lets just hope he stays I remember when Peter Moore left and I don,t want to feel like that again.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

This is about the biggest non story I've seen for a while.

It's back page news because he won't commit to committing early?

If he said "Yeah, I'd love to get this all wrapped up by Christmas" and then the deal wasn't done by then the media would go even more apeshit.

He's done the right thing and won't commit to anything and he knows the media will speculate and speculate no matter what, but he's smart enough not to fan the flames.

He won't be going anywhere. He won't get the sort of money GWS can offer but he'll still be one of the highest paid players in the league and he'll be at a successful club that will be playing for premierships.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

It is an interesting scenario.

Does anybody know what % of the salary cap GWS have to pay this year, is it 95% like all other clubs?

They get an extra $1million above all the other clubs, but with their over the odds offers to Scully, Davis and Ward a fair chunk of that will be taken up already.

If he does decide to leave, cant begrudge him....a once in a lifetime offer it would be.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

The only person who can stop this being a saga is Scott.

He might be mentally tough, but the issue is the impact on the whole team.

The media have made it clear they are going to do the slow drip feed on slow news days just as they did with Mick.

GWS are certainly going to offer his brother a spot for probably 500k provided Scott signs on.

Nothing like creating family friction to force a player's hand. It worked with Gary Ablett and Tom Scully.

Pendlebury should make it a priority to get this sorted before the season starts; otherwise I fear the decision has already been made. If not, for the sake of maybe 5% of the salary, get the deal done now, so it doesn't become something that the club needs to be mindful of making sure it isn't a distraction (which therefore makes it a bloody distraction!)

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

GWS spent all their dough on scully and his dad...
Nah, Scully's contract is heavily front ended, to the point where he (and his Dad:p:eek:) are apparently getting close to $2 Million in the first year, but only about half of that in the second year, leaving them plenty of room to grab one or two players from another club.

I love Pendles and what he has done for this football club, but if it comes down to a choice between him and Travis Cloke, and we have to pay Trav $1 Million a year to keep him (Trav is a restricted free agent after 2012 I believe), then Pendles can accept the GWS offer without any ill feeling from my way.

I'd love to keep them all, but it's niave to think that is possible with free agency kicking in and GWS having their second crack at the end of 2012, we will lose someone, we have to hope it's not a top 10 player at the club.

I still don't understand why GWS get a second shot at unconctracted players, the Suns got one year, is this the AFL admitting GWS is a less attractive option for AFL footballers to go to?

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

I have to admit I am already sick of this induendo and the season is months off... personally I’m over it and don’t really care anyway, it’ll be just one player and a midfielder is replaceable... no doubt we’ll get 2 first round picks for him and need to refresh with young talent in an uncompromised draft

Let’s hope we hit the right year for it... you never know might get another Thomas & Pendle’s as well.

No-one will pay Travis or anyone else a million dollars. If anyone decides they want ridiculous dollars then we will have to let them go and nab the draft picks and use the dollars on another good player like Godard.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

I'm not concerned.

We were supposed to lose one of our big three mids last season and all re-signed.

Dawes was supposed to take the massive $$$$ elsewhere but he stayed.

We will retain all those that we want to keep.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

At the very least Trav needs to be part of the leadership group. Was really influential in big games last season and appears to have a great rapport within the team.

I'd say that paying Trav more than Pendles is an interesting thought but not one I'm against at all just due to the replaceability of one over the other.

Cloke - at the moment, at the peak of his powers - is the most important player Collingwood has.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Arguably the best player available on the market next year, and GWS has an infinite pot of AFL gold. You'd have to be naive to just assume he'll stay with us.

Huh I remember this said about swan, Thomas, etc etc all this year.

Honestly if Pendlebury was going why didn't he take the contract offer this year?

Also this started really early for next season

1 million is stupid, but losing a travis and getting Goddard is just dumb.

If we can afford Goddard then you can afford the far more structurally important trav

Knowing we were in the premiership hunt for a few years maybe he wanted another couple of cracks at a flag before leaving? Short term success then long term financial rewards? Just a thought....

Eddie's take on this,

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...n-sydney-circles/story-e6frf9jf-1226196093063

"If they (GWS) go after Scott Pendlebury, I will declare war on Greater Western Sydney and I will set up a tent embassy outside their tumbleweed-blown ground up there in Greater Western Sydney,'' McGuire said on Triple M.

"I will steal every one of their good players for the rest of my life. I will go feral. I will make it my life's ambition to destroy them and run them into the ground.

As long as they know ... this is not Melbourne where you can just walk in and steal the players. If you do this at Collingwood, good luck.''

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

and so it starts.

Last year we had Swanny, then the media turned to Pendles, then they turned to Daisy.

The same deal is going to happen this year only more high profile players will be available.

1st it's Pendles, then in no particular order of uncontracted players after 2012 will be:

Cloke
Reid
Sidebottom
Ball
Wellingham
etc

Did I say Godard to replace Cloke?

What I said was if Pendles leaves then we'll have money left for another player on the market plus early picks. Goddard might be such a replacement. Just an example.

I love Ed. GWS don't know who they are taking on.
