Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Have heard some interesting musings that we have no worries of any any players other than Cloke and Pendles leaving, but it is pretty simply put - Pendles is likely to leave if he doesn't get the captaincy and Cloke is likely to leave if he doesn't get offered more money.

In my own opinion - if we didn't lose anyone of note to a much better opportunity in Gold Coast, we won't lose anyone to falafel town. Once again, it's simple - Gold Coast was lifestyle and money, GWS is purely money. Cloke was offered far more by Essendon and denied them (however he is now much better and is confident in his worth) and Pendles would have been offered as much as Ablett to go to GC but stayed because he wants to captain the Pies and win premierships.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Out of intrest, who would you guys rather loose?
Trav or Pendles?

If it was me, I'd say Pendles, you can always get quality mids, especially with free agency. But a big, marking forward is harder to come by.

I actually think it might be between Cloke and Reid.

I think Pendles will stay and GWS are not that Intrested.

But I would Rather lose Pendles out of those 2 and with 2 1st Rounders and it being the Best Draft Ever we could easily get 2 Guns

Deledio just signed with the Tigers for 5 years.

Richmond star Brett Deledio has agreed to a new five-year deal worth up to $3m, meaning he will stay at the club until at least 2017.

On one hand it's good news, as it shows no big name wants to go to GWS.

But on the other hand it clarifies GWS's target on Cloke and Reid, with Hurley and Deledio now off their radar.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

No thanks I'd prefer to keep Pendles then the two draft picks we would get for him. His a gun a-grade midfielder who is still very young. IMO he will only get better. This talk about Cloke and Pendles is already doing my head in. Sick of people on radio talking about it.

We lost no one last year so I'm of the opinion we wont lose anyone this year.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

I think if Pendles wants to go he'll go.

Desperately hoping Cloke stays, hopefully his heart is at Collingwood and he's loyal to that. Otherwise the huge paycheck could understandably provide enough incentive to move. He's definitely one of the most important players in the team (one of the best in the league clearly, along with Pendles) and it'd be terrible for him to leave.

Reid too, although you'd hope we'd get adequate compensation for him if he does decide to go. As good as Scully?

Travis qualifies for our veterans list in 2015. 3 year deal with a nice kicker for 2015. It's still not clear what the rules are now around how much of their salary is excluded from the cap.
No way will GWS offer any player this year anymore then $1M. They are going to need some cap space in 2014 for their curent crop of draftees when they come out of contract.

I think we'll keep both Cloke and Pendles, but be forced to pay a little more then we wanted too and therefore lose a player of middling range.

Well.... technically you lost Josh Frasier, but that was a win/win for all... and no one really minded....

I am getting very worried now. Cloke signed for a Sydney based sport management company a few weeks ago and has now said he wont sign until the end of the year or even start talks until the season is over. Now GWS have come out and said they need a key forward and that will be their number 1 priority. Cloke is the only key forward thats out of contract. We are in massive trouble and I think he is as good as gone. I hate GWS!

Where'd you hear this from?

Edit. Don't worry I researched and found out myself. Same agent also has a few other players, most notables are Daniel Jackson and Luke McGuane, wonder if that means they're going to GWS too?

We actually had a thread on that very choice a few months back, and iirc, the consensus was that Trav was the one we'd prefer to keep, being more structurally important and harder to replace.

why the hell don't any of our players sign before the season i don't get it ?

thomas was like right at the finals last year

I think because we are still working on what the Players are Worth and how High do we want to pay them

Daisy was Offered a Deal by GWS

On Footy Classifieds they said Daisy was Defintally Offered a Contract and then We Draw it:confused:

Why??? Did Daisy so No or Did GWS Change There Mind.

Your Thoughts?

Quoted to make a bit more sense - no offence, might have thrown people who haven't seen it.

As for why, I don't know, the obvious reason is that he wants to be a pie for life. That's what we want and it shows the culture at the club. Especially considering he lived Malthouse and now he is gone, he must also just have strong ties with the club.

Re: Daisy was Offered a Deal by GWS

If they offered him a deal that's a breach as far as i know because he was in contract, just as the Phil Davis thing was a breach when he announced he was leaving the Crows because GWS weren't allowed to offer contracts.
If true, the AFL should investigate and fine GWS heavily, but we know that aint going to happen.

Yeah, agreed.
If Cloke did go, who becomes the next automatic big forward with Dawes?
Do you throw Tarrant up their?

I would Say Paine be the 2nd Tall Forward

I thought he was a smaller player? I'll go over his clips later tonight.

I read that Dawes might play the Roughie role, forward/ruck.
If Cloke goes that would stop that plan all togethr.

Well he plays a Bog/Tall Forward during the NAB Cup and at the moment we have no one else to play in the Role

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Stewart, Paine, Hartley?, Witts, Ceglar, Nathan Brown?, Keeffe.

We have an abundance of talls that could be developed to fill that second or first tall role, but another Cloke won't come around for another 10-20 years - Dawes simply wouldn't do for a first tall.

However - do you need big, gun forwards to win premierships? - Exhibit A - Geelong. Their nucleus was 2 amazing HFF's (Johnson and Chapman) and one of the best midfields and backlines we have ever seen. Pies are working towards great midfields and backlines.

Re: Scott Pendlebury bats away contract talk as Greater Western Sydney circles

Yeh Cloke probably is harder to replace but i think you all underestimate how good Scoot Pendlebury actually is and no player in the AFL minus Ablett could replace him in 5 years.

Re: Daisy was Offered a Deal by GWS

Speaking of Footy Classified, Grant Thomas just gave Paul Roos a nice backhand there.

i liked the bit about roos shouldnt be involved in recruiting when coaching.

ummm SFB thomas, you were the be all & end all at stkilda during your reign, and very much hurt their chances with a once golden list.

No doubt you have plenty of talls, but how many forwards, rather than rucks, tall backmen? Just curious.
But I agree, Geelong showed that you don't need 2 big forwards, but they had Mooney and Hawkins win them flags...

He is great, but in the terms of things, right now, with the situation the club is in, with he possibility to win more flags, you don't wanna loose your best player, and then develop another forward, or put Tarrant in till one comes of age.
It throws your whole system out and could ruin your chances for another flag.

Where as, if Pendles goes, you can get another A-Grade mid in FA, or the trade easier than a key big forward.
