a wolfpack is hierarchical, its built on self-interest and its collective. i wonder how long the wolfpack would survive if it had to barter with each other before going out on a hunt...

If you haven’t read the non-fiction book ‘The Philosopher and the Wolf’

Think you would enjoy it

It is about a philosophy lecturer and his pet wolf

Spoiler: pit bulls quickly submit to wolves

It's innate. Is there a social species of animal that isn't hierarchical?

There might be different, more sustainable ways of organising the economy, or better ways than wealth of delineating the hierarchy, but hierarchy is here to stay.
the tlaxcalan civilisation pre Spanish conquest had it close to figured out. They had no rulers, instead they had a kind of parliamentary democracy with senators that doubled as local administrators. Issues would be debated and voted on with the process done in an arena where citizens could participate.

The part that I like is how the senators were chosen. They weren’t elected but nominated by the other senators when a vacancy arose. The nominees however weren’t chosen based on cronyism but were accomplished individuals that had a history of community service.

But the public wasn’t out to the picture, they still needed to approve the nomination, they did so by parading them in public where they would be stripped while the public hurled insults and beat them with sticks. Only if they showed sufficient humility would they be approved. It was also a reminder of their fate should they act corruptly, kinda like a bikies blood in blood out credo.

I like the idea of giving pollies a beating before they take office as a reminder of who they work for, I think it’s a concept that could take off.

i do wonder how long rupert would last in the back streets of gaza, with access to an ATM. Obviously, he could buy protection, but how lnng would he be able to hang on to the ATM card....

The Tories have adopted the same system.

Genuine question. This is a race for 2yo horses just setting out on their career, with no prior form for punters to go by. Yet the odds vary considerably - Cindersea for instance is at 5-1. How are odds decided on horses with no form?

They have a few barrier trials before their first race. Bookies frame an initial market based on barrier trials, breeding etc then the weight of money guides it.

Cindersea won with a leg in the air. You were all told.

I always have mixed emotions when I see a jockey dating a hot, tall chick

Part of me wants him punished for his job

Part of me thinks go Little Guy

They love it. One of my Covid highlights was the lockdown breach by Jamie Kah et al when one of them blabbed about their Jockey Sex Party.

that’s called after session drinks.

They are a mess atm, their campaign director has resigned due to a betting scandal. There was a betting plunge on the election date the day before the election was called and given that the pm only shared the date with his inner circle given the leadership rumblings it wasn’t too hard to work out who’s behind the plunge.

So the campaign director has resigned, two mp’s under investigation and the pm’s security guard arrested, and their families also under investigation, the muppets used their own ladbrokes account.

When you see stupidity at this level you just have to tip your hat to it.

Bloody hell - what’s just as dumb is the bet must have been pretty small. On these kind of bets the bookies automatically refuse it past a certain limit. Especially if the bet is completely out of character with the bettor’s track record.

Don't they often win with all four legs in the air

£100 was what the campaign director bet, but the plunge was much larger so I’m guessing the friends and families got on it big.

What a bunch of rookies. A shame. I love it whenever boookies get taken for a ride. The corporate fluckers take no chances these days. Anyone who can actually punt gets very quickly identified and then restricted. Smart business is they’d rather take easy money from blokes in the pub in their thongs and stubbies than take on the better punters.

wait until you see netinyahoo get ambushed by horny US reps when he addresses congress....i've heard that they're going to issue condoms..

i had a look at Rupert's free site and I saw a story about Karl Höcker who was a Nazi and took photographs during WW2. It was the lead story on the page.

Evidently the photos became available after the war. They were shown about 3 or 4 years ago. But then I traced it back further and evidently in 2006, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received an album of 116 photographs. It belonged to an SS officer, Karl Höcker, who was an adjutant of Richard Baer, one of the commandants of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

So you might ask why the story was the lead story on the Rupert free site. It seems that it was time for us to be reminded....I thought it was my duty to pass it on here
