Am I the only one who thinks this draw system is pretty cool?

1. I love things that make our game unique, this is one of them, it's awesome.

2. Extra time punishes the side with the most injuries on the day.

3. Loved the confusion after the game - nobody knew what to do, think, feel. Players didn't celebrate, but didn't commiserate.

4. The supporters who paid thousands weren't paying for a result, they were paying for a sporting spectacle. They got it. Now hopefully some of the people that missed out can get tickets next week.

Absolutely love it.

Anyone know how much the AFL will make out of an extra GF? $40m? $50m?

Personally I slightly prefer a result on the day, but we can't expect the AFL to knock back that windfall. That will prop GWS and GC up for another year and thereby help us crack those markets.

I laughed when Timmy asked Vlad if he would consider changing it. Vlad was poker faced but inside it was all party. Extra $50m! Booyah!

Ohh the poor poor players . . . no wait they all get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I love it. Bring on next week.

As a supporter, after dropping $800 for a ticket, the emotional build up and then emotional exhustion after the game.......I'd rather extra time....because now I have to go through it again....

Actually, arrangements will need to be made where they have to be compensated (and so will go over and above their contracts) for the next match. If the AFL are going to make another few million with this, the players are entitled to a chunk of it.

People supporting the replay are crapping on about tradition, and embracing what is unique to the AFL competition. It may be both, but it also renders the GF playoff ineffective at it's purpose - to decide the premiership.

It also highlights yet another inconsistency in AFL rules. If this was any other final, the match wouldve gone into extra time with two additional 5 minute periods. Indeed, this is what will happen if the match is drawn again at the end of regulation next week. However, there's one match out of the lot where it doesnt occur.

Have you got a link or more info on the bolded part? I find it hard to believe that replaying the GF wouldn't be part of the players standard contract. Their season isn't over yet so it should just be standard like any other final they play.

3 draws in 114 years. It's a rare event.
I went to the game and I don't feel like I lost my coin.
Enjoyed every minute of it and got my money's worth.
Play it again Sam.

I just tuned into SEN to hear what talkback callers were feeling, and I heard a Collingwood supporter say he'd rather have lost than drawn. In other words, he'd rather have lost and finished runner-up than have another crack at the 2010 flag next week!!! Seriously, some people really need to get a grip.

I like but I am not a selfish person and those poor players, coaches and the people who went to the game and now have planes next week... So yeah im actually excited but I still think its stupid a lot of people beeing ****** over by this

Won't somebody think of the children?

It's good for the viewers, particularly the neutrals, but I don't feel as though it's necessarily good for the players. To have your efforts for an entire game of footy wiped clean and effectively mean nothing but postponing the result for another week must be incredibly tough to deal with. For the record I think the Saints had the clear advantage at the end and would've won if it went to time on, so going to another game is probably better from a Collingwood perspective, but when all other finals go to extra time you gotta ask why should the GF be any different.

That's because a draw in the earlier rounds would upset the entire finals series. A draw last week would've seen a prelim this week and the grand final pushed back.

There are no games after the GF so it doesn't matter if they replay it over and over.

I love them having to replay the drawn Grand Final. I can see why they have changed the system in 1990 for the other finals to extra time as it affected other teams and pushed the Grand Final to a week later which would have been a huge challenge logistically.

I hope the Grand Final replay system stays as it is, it I think its more injustice for the looser to loose a premiership in 10 minutes of football then to loose a premiership in 1 week of football. Plus I hope the replay allows more a chance for the Genuine supporters to have a chance to get a ticket to see their team win it! If there a more genuine supporters there compared to theatre goers the atmosphere can only be better!

The mind games have already started and at this stage and the Saints look like they are ahead. The saints know what its like to walk off the MCG loosing a close Grand Final, so they would be appreciated of the second chance. If Maxwell's reaction is an indicator of the other Collingwood players, its going to be tough for them to get up if they have preferred to loose then having another chance.

I am a bit torn, while its great that we get to go through 2 grand final weeks in the same year(who doesnt love grand final week?!), at the same time I feel a bit ripped.

We had tickets to the GF that cost a bloody fortune, I would have liked to see a result.
Being a supporter of neither team I am not going to fork out the same amount of cash for next weeks replay, so I kinda do feel ripped off that we didnt get to see presentations etc.

Having said that, I am actually happy that we get to go through grand final week all over again, I missed out on having our annual grand final do with mates because we went, so this year I now get to do both!!
And it will be interesting to see what the AFL do in regards to pre-match entertainment, TV Rights(do channel 7 get the replay?), sponsors etc.

Seriously, how novel is this? Another grand final next week after an utterly epic battle today. Who says we need to be like every other bloody sport? It's so freaking rare for this to happen anyway. The sporting equivalent of witnessing Halley's Comit.

It'll be a sheer battle of wills next week, whoever's got the mental toughness and wants it more will get up, should be a bloodbath. The theatre of the whole situation is nothing short of special. I'm pumped! Keep the draw rule.

100% correct !!!

3i would love it more if AFL silver members with club support got access to tickets same time as gold non competing members...

here we go again....

anyone willing to help out a silver member who coughed up 3k for corporate tickets and cannot afford to do it again please let me know...

I have generally thought the GF replay system was ok, but after the game felt strongly that we should have had a result.

However, this morning I am prepared to wait and experience the replay with an open mind.

My feeling is now that we are too focused on instant gratification these days. The reality is than neither team was good enough to win.

They need to go back and earn a premiership as all other premiers have.

fine to have a replay however willing to bet that it will disappoint in comparison to yesterdays game, as both sides will find it difficult to reach the same intensity levels 2 weeks running.

one side will come out flatter than the other, the pies for mine, which will result in a comfortable victory - saints by 28.

It's great. Such a unique occurrence. Plus to me it's the fairest way of deciding the premier after a drawn GF.

Also, it is a pretty much unique, and very historical/traditional, aspect to the AFL - things that so many around here seem willing to trash in the name of expediency.

For us older guys, getting to see an extra Grand Final (in our lifetime) is fantastic. :D

Of course having to queue other 3 bloody nights for tickets isn't that great. :(

Love the draw. Maxwells comments were pathetic after then match, that's y I think the saints will win, they seem more prepared for all out war after hearing goddard's comments. Like hearing that stuff rather than excuses from Maxwell.

Someone who just played 120 minutes of meaningless football probably.

Would have loved to hear Maxwells comments if xtra time HAD been played and and the injured Gardiner lumbered around knocking out Swan and Didak out cold in the first xtra minute. then Saints get a very lucky free with 10 seconds to go and and they scrape home by a point.

The game was far from meaningless it will go down in history as such.
