It isn't amazing and it probably isn't a coincidence, but **** it here we go

Yesterday Nick Larkey kicked 9 goals for North Melbourne and Tex Walker kicked 9 goals for Adelaide, which marked the first time that 2 players had kicked 9+ goals on the same day since Chief & Plugger in 1996

That day in '96 Lockett played against North Melbourne, and Dunstall played against Adelaide

Last Round 2022 - Last-placed North Melbourne host Gold Coast Suns. The Kangaroos are expected to be buoyant after signing a superstar premiership coach (Alistair Clarkson) but instead put in a poor performance that consigns North to last on percentage from the Eagles, despite West Coast's heavy defeat by Geelong the same day.

Last Round 2023 - Last-placed North Melbourne host Gold Coast Suns. The Suns are expected to be buoyant after signing a superstar premiership coach (Damien Hardwick) but instead put in a poor performance against the Kangaroos, which allows North to climb up from the bottom of the ladder on percentage and consign West Coast after a heavy loss to Adelaide to the 2023 wooden spoon.

Mildly interesting coincidence.

Isaac Smith’s undeniable best performance for the season in both 2022 and 2023 occurred in his team’s last game.

FWIW his R24 2023 performance was his equal career high for disposals with 36.

So he should rescind his retirement?

Not an amazing coincidence but still a fun fact.

St Kilda's last final in Melbourne (2011) was a 6th v 7th elimination final against Sydney, as will be th case in two weeks time.

Though I suspect this game will be at the MCG rather than Docklands.

Depends how tonight's game ends up. Going early and ruling out GWS?

You can change it now

Carlton's last final prior to 2023 was against Sydney

Carlton's first final 10 years later will be against Sydney

In 2015, Geelong missed the finals and played Adelaide in their final home and away match of the season. Signed Dangerfield in the off-season and won a Brownlow the next year, Dogs broke drought and won 2nd flag in '16 from outside the top 4

In 2023, Geelong missed the finals and played Western Bulldogs in their final home and away match of the season. Will they sign Bailey Smith, win a Brownlow the next year with St Kilda breaking their drought in '24 from outside the top 4
What the **** is this? Just posting random shit now, eh.

Hardly amazing - more an omen - but my Pies supporting mate is hanging onto the hope that Collingwood wins premierships after suffering a late H&A loss to Hawthorn:

  • 1990: Round 20, Hawthorn def. Collingwood 163-80
  • 2010: Round 22, Hawthorn def. Collingwood 98-95
  • 2023???: Round 21, Hawthorn def. Collingwood 105-73

It almost holds true to 1958, but Collingwood beat Hawthorn 93-86 in a close Round 13 game that year.

My omen from 1958, 1990 & 2010 (and potentially 2023) is that Hawthorn has won a flag within 3 years of Collingwood winning their last three flags:
  • 1958 (C) & 1961 (H)
  • 1990 (C) & 1991 (H)
  • 2010 (C) & 2013 (H)

Soooooons oooff the weeeest

Are you telling me that it’s not a coincidence that they had your team song have that line AT THE SAME TIME!!!

You aren’t even from wa

Checkmate atheists!!!

In the modern 14+ team expansion era Melbourne and Carlton have met in September four times.

On every occasion the lower ranked team has been victorious.

1988 PF - Melbourne (5th) d Carlton (3rd)

1994 QF - Melbourne (7th) d Carlton (2nd)

2000 QF - Melbourne (3rd) d Carlton (2nd)

2023 SF - Carlton (5th) d Melbourne (4th)
