So are we getting espn + without having to go through foxtel anymore?
I doubt it. At least not at first. In Latin America they locked the watchespn stuff behind the premium tier. Basic just had live channels and select events

LOL.

Last week they announce ESPN coming this year at no extra cost to subscribers, so they just up the price of the sub for everyone rather then make a paid ESPN add on.

Like Netflix they also charge you for account sharing. i got blocked from using my sisters account late last year because we are not the same IP/household.

Reminds me of the old days of cable where companies kept getting charged more and more for ESPN as it became a must have.

Clearly not the same thing here but certainly got those vibes

Because sports rights cost so much. And are going up because the new streamers are trying to out bid the established names and they need to pay big money to keep them away from streamers.

Disney plus is now more then double the price it launched at.

People also point at things like Kayo being overpriced because they see other streamers like netflix that don't have the sports. And the Kayo like proposed streamer in america would of cost $65-70 Aud a month.
And when Disney launch the ESPN standalone streaming service later this year people are expecting it to cost $25-30 USD [$40-50 AUD] for just the ESPN networks and the events.

ESPN in america just walked away from the F1 after paying $90m a year and it struggled to get over 1m viewers per race [their previous TV deal was $5m a year] because the F1 are asking for a substantial increase in price

ESPN launch on Disney+ is for March 26th. and reads like its just the 2 main channels and the same on demand stuff Foxtel/Kayo get and not any of the WatchESPN stuff like the 5 other channels or extra live events.

Makes sense for both. NFL are getting out of the media business as seen bu gutting NFL media 12 months ago and Disney/ESPN need more content for the DTC they are launching later this year. Will be interesting to see if they fold it into ESPN or let them run separately still. Because it will give ESPN 8 extra NFL games a year and archive replays and games of the week replays from all NFLs media partners and all primetime games replayed.

I feel like it should still run on its own like how Warner/Turner sports own NBA TV. But will likely replace ESPNews and air some ESPN NFL stuff like NFL Live replays so total access might be killed

The ESPN DTC is also talking to Fox and TNT about licensing some shows/Sports for the platform

Just hope Redzone stays ad free. But back when they had Goal-line for CFB ads were not too bad just a 2-3 min block every 20-30mins. But more promotional branding and sponsorship will be sold anyway. And hope they resign Scott
