We're getting falsely accused of living in a bubble, then apparently it's also strange or we must have too much time on our hands, if we actually consume some news media from sources that are partisan toward the other side.

So "Grumpy men" may be more important than "Whiny women" this election.
I guess the transgenders will be causing the swings next time.
The campaign by the miners is two-fold.
One is to attack the anti-mining policy by advertising in all media about it.
They used that advertising spend to leverage the rest of the coverage to also be anti-Govt.
So, also amplifying those "other reasons".
The obvious thing to do would be to link the MRRT to social-value non-discretionary spending. Things like paving and widening regional roads, new regional health infrastructure, upgrading the Bruce Highway, sporting fields, stadia, parks, new ports, wind farms and the rest into the Future Fund. Give the income would be more sporadic, and for political reasons it's best to tie it to things like that rather than general revenue.
That was where they failed last time, didn't sell the benefits and so got skewered on the exaggerated disbenefits (all the miners will leave and take their coal and gas with them?)

The received wisdom is they just pressured her till she caved, and they'd only spent (IIRC) $20 million from a budget of $100 mil, saving themselves many billions in tax.
But only Gillard could say what decided it for her.
So when RBA cuts rates a few weeks out from the election, Murdoch will scream they are doing Labors bidding
And will join CSIRO and the ANAO on the hit list
