Can we put to bed the idea that this house was some sort of marble laden behemoth? For the salary he earns it was an entirely reasonable purchase.

No doubt the same head kickers would have been into him about stealing a house from someone who needed it if he bought a modest (cheaper) house in a working class suburb.

This is such a non-event it isn't funny.

Gillard was ridiculed for her modest cream BV in sunshine. There’s a common thread and it’s not being out of touch. It’s representing the ALP

The house was one thing…the million dollar upgrades to the road that leads to it … that doesn’t pass the sniff test

No never ever said Dutton came from humble beginnings.

All I said was at least Dutton had a job outside of parliament house.

I said they both claim to come from humble beginnings, Dutton claims to be the son of a bricklayer turned property developer (which means a brickie who poured his money into buying property to build with the tradespeople they knew from their trade, probably doing the brick laying on it himself to save a buck, but it will be interpreted as massively wealthy person doing nothing and flipping houses).

My post was not directed at you.

The house wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't some multi million dollar one.
It looks bad in a time when many can't even buy one overpriced shitbox

Are you suggesting he had input into road upgrades in the area into which he purchased a house?

That'd be a pretty serious thing to allege, if you had the stones to do more than imply it.

When is the press going to go Dutton for having a daily trust worth over $300 million?
And what is it that concerns you? The fact he and his family have accumulated wealth? Nothing new about a politician doing that.

Didn't Dutton renounce his interest in the trust years ago?

What concerns me is that certain sectors of the press have gone hard on Albo buying himself a house.

I hadn’t heard that, but given the eye-watering sum involved, you’d have to suspect legal chicanery.

I would think anyone with exposure, of any kind, should isolate their various assets from each other so that no one individual venture, be it a child care centre or apartment rented out, is vulnerable to a damages claim against another entity within your structure.

The most basic of these would be that your plumbing business owns your tools, your van, but not your house - so if Taylor T'B'tch were to sue you for damages for work on her place and your insurance denied protection that your home is owned by another "entity".

I've got no issue with Albo buying a $4M property; it was the timing of the announcement which did nothing but perpetuate the perception that Albo is out of touch.

And Dutton renounced his interest in the family trust before the 2019 election, which is probably why you don't hear about it. Renouncing his interest doesn't mean he loses the money, just that he is not a decision maker while the renouncement is in place

You said this in your previous post:

... inferring insider trading.

Now, if you want to continue down this road Goroyals, you're welcome to do so, but you will be asked to demonstrate this inferred claim with evidence. A dailymail article which actively refutes the claim cannot serve as evidence.

Let's keep this to the provable, shall we?
