When would the timing be better? Should he hide it? Like Scomo going to Hawaii?
Scomo justifiably copped his fair share of criticism.

Yet you seemingly have zero problem with the PM who proudly and loudly calls himself a working class battler, announcing the purchase of a $4M cliff top house in the middle of a cost of living crisis? As I said, the fact he has bought the house is not an issue; it's the timing. When should he have timed it? Not in the middle of the COL crisis when so many Australians are reeling.

And I'm accused of bias and partisan posting...FMD

Did he announce it, or did the media announce it?

And, as we understand with the property market, and given the house is intended for when he retires, and he's 61, he can hardly say "Oh, now's not the time to be looking for a house", can he?

I just think there is an immense hypocrisy in the media - doing everything it can to talk up real estate, publishing endless gushing articles about this mover and shaker or that one who has bought this property for x amount - actively profiting from it in so many ways, and then turn around and trying to shame the nation's leader for buying an attractive property.

And I am no fan of Albo. But the whole thing is weak as piss.

(Having said that, if Albo implemented some really concrete measures to make renting an attractive option - like in normal, non-deranged countries - I'd probably vote Labor.)

I don't think Albo can really claim to be in touch with sentiment around cost of living, given the half arsed (or less) rhetoric and actions. He might have been able to claim it when he was younger.

But it's a beat up.

If the rule is that pollies can't buy houses when a significant proportion of the country are struggling to afford one, then they are never going to buy a house.

Though that does sound like it could be the start of a good policy, probably unworkable, you'd see home affordability become the #1 issue being addressed overnight.

You said this in your previous post:

... inferring insider trading.

Now, if you want to continue down this road Goroyals, you're welcome to do so, but you will be asked to demonstrate this inferred claim with evidence. A dailymail article which actively refutes the claim cannot serve as evidence.

Let's keep this to the provable, shall we?

I prefer to think of it that the guy who holds the highest elected office in the land wasn't smart enough to see where funding was earmarked which would improve the value of property, and by pure dumb luck made that purchase.

That makes me feel better.

I've got no issue with Albo buying a $4M property; it was the timing of the announcement which did nothing but perpetuate the perception that Albo is out of touch.

And Dutton renounced his interest in the family trust before the 2019 election, which is probably why you don't hear about it. Renouncing his interest doesn't mean he loses the money, just that he is not a decision maker while the renouncement is in place
So politicians shouldn't buy property if economic conditions are bad?

Is that really what you're suggesting?

Don't be so ****ing naïve. I do appreciate this is an incredibly left cleaning forum and that anyone whose views don't align with the majority will be ridiculed.

It was okay for Scomo to cop it massively when he went to Hawaii. "How could the PM be so out of touch". "How dare the PM leave Australia when the country was on fire". Then we have mods trying to get mileage out of the fact the Libs are organising a $10K/head fund raising dinner party.

But criticise Albo for being out of touch with Australians is just a step too far? This is a PM who loudly and proudly boasts his working class background and the fact he understands what Australians are going through in this COL crisis.

How is it that Dan Andrews was able to buy an expensive house in Brighton, Melbourne without any scrutiny? Because he made sure there would be none. And that's his business.

There’s plenty of things you can criticise Albo for. The problem is that you guys pick the most inane thing like buying a house instead of his support for war criminals in an apartheid regime, for example.

Rich person buys mansion.
Fu** me, get over it.
Anyone would do the exact same if you had the money to do so.
Anyone with any real brains and leadership skills goes into the private sector where they could earn 10+ the amount of money, so we are left with mostly morons as politicians.

It's hardly a mansion either. It looks like (and is) your standard 4 bedroom upper middle class house.

Obviously the price tag is mouth watering but that's the location for you.

I grew up in a former housing trust house and now own a small 2 bedroom unit.

But even I wouldn't call it a mansion. It's a sizeable house (4 bedrooms, 2 story, big garage) and obviously it's fancier than I'll ever have, but mansion is a stretch.

Or if Albo had bought a modest place in a middle class suburb... "Albo steals house from working class families". The headline writes itself.
He'd be called out for trying to pretend to be grounded. SkyNews would tell him to stop pretending, buy a fancy house like we all know he wants to, so we can see who he really is.

So no politician is allowed to make a major purchase, of any kind, when the economy is not booming? Because that shows how "out of touch" they are?
