Anti-Franklin umpiring taken to a new level

Franklin has his hands in the defenders backs alot!

only as much as they have their hands on his back....

I am not sure about your fans, but ours know when he has got their back. When lance has got the back, you will not hear one of our fans cheering. Every match is the same, he gets them 1-2 times in the back, but gets payed 3-4....

The way the rules are written, it strikes me as very odd that forwards don't get more free kicks.

Buddy, as well as other key forwards have to deal with more than one defender.

Something tells me that in these instances you don't have the forward and 2 defenders going straight for the ball.

This means that AT LEAST ONE of the defenders is either blocking, holding, chopping or whatever.

Normally you'll get two defenders doing the 'body' work as well as the sweeper/drifter that tries to chop off the lead and take what's essentially an 'uncontested' mark.

Surely one of the two blokes is doing something against the rules? How can these contests favour the defenders so often???

Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

Both players get absolutely nothing from the umpires and are always pinged for the dodgy frees (ie Franklin for "holding the ball" today whilst clearly out of bounds, Gibson hanging all over Fevola 1,000 times today). Conversely, players like Harvey and Ablett get everything given to them on a platter including all the 50/50 frees. Amazing how the rules are applied differently depending on who the player is.

Quiet time for you.

Re: Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

Ive always thaught its pretty hard for good key forwards to get a good run with the umpires. I think there is something in the umpires subconscious that causes them to have higher standards as for what warrants a free kick in front of goal, and its even worse if the forward is a top player.
For instance the chopping the arms rule seems to be pretty soft around half back and up on the wings but at full-forward the defender can get away with it.

On the other hand, Chris Judd and a few others get a freekick every time they go to a contest.

Re: Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

Forwards get it easy enough as it is. Pointless whinging.

We all know there's a forward at Essendon who, for whatever reasons, has got it pretty easy for the majority of his career. The fact is the two best forwards in the league constantly get the raw deal. I'm watching the North v Carlton game now and Gibson is holding Fevola without penalty everytime the ball gets down there.

Ah, so that's why the Tigers won today?

Franklin clearly has the coach's blessing to take on the tackler, he often gets through the tackle & sets up a goal...........the downside is he often gets freed for holding the ball or incorrect disposal........but dawks like you squeal every time it happens, no matter how blatant the free is.

Then explain thr Riewoldt rule

Re: Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

Umpires are human too and if they don't like a player they're less inclined to give them free kicks or brownlow votes.

Fev is pretty arrogant and tends to have a go at the umps on the field so they pretty much ignore the blatent shepherding off the ball, scragging, pushes in the back and arms over the shoulder.

Re: Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

It's obvious they don't get them because they sledge them.

However, why should this come into it? Surely if a free kick is there you pay it. It's a case of the umpires letting their egos get in the way - as usual.

Re: Franklin & Fevola - why do the umpires hate them?

Seriously, my heart bleeds for both of them. A combined total of 200 goals would easily surpass 300 if the umpires didn't hate them so much.

What's with the insult and the irrelvant Tigers comment? For what it's worth, Richmond won today because they played better. The inferiority complex displayed by NM fans with respect to all things Hawthorn around here is old. Even the commentators are filthy on the treatment Fevola received today.

Get your hand off it the umpires dont kick the ball for him. face it you guys lost and trying to blame the umps for buddyboys kicking is derogatory to that noble proffesion of umpiring

Great player but massive diver.

Great player but massive diver.

He was at it again today - see that dive he took after Fevola pushed him. The way he carried himself after his diving in the Melbourne game the other week was disgraceful, in the post game interview he was proud of the fact he got the young Melbourne player reported twice. As you said, a good player, but he must be a **** of a bloke.
