Anyone think we can actually win next week?

Reality is, it will likely be close again.

Last three games between our sides have been pretty much decided on accuracy, with a similar quantity of shots on goal at all three games.

Yes. St Kilda played some of their best footy while you played some of your worst for the year.

I won't say it's a guarantee you'll win but pretty bloody likely.

SHHHHH.

We want to go in as underdogs next week, although the smart judges won't let that happen.

Already we are as short as $1.50 to win next week, which even though I am confident of us doing, is silly odds after what happened today.

We have been the best team all year.

We winning the GF for something like 90% of game time.

We close to doubled them for inside 50s.

Wasted way too many easy shots on goal.

Had our key players all have poor games.

Yet we still didn't lose??

I agree. We were lucky to draw because St.Kilda should have been able to hit the lead in the dying minutes, and I think they would have won in extra time because too many important Collingwood players were down, but I think Collingwood will bounce back and win next week too.

Not sure..., after today's match saints and pies seem equal. Anyone could have any chance of winning.

I hope we can win. But I have a feeling that the Saints may get over us unless we can blow them away early(as we did today) but we will need a 6-7 goal lead at half time. Our leg speed is fantastic but we just do not have the endurance for a full 100 minutes being such young side. It takes 5-6 years in the system to build the endurance levels up to the level required to play finals football. And our guys are just to young. Hopefully I am wrong and we can smash them early and then hold them. But I think Saints will play very negative football first half next week in the hope that they can then out run us later. HOPE I AM WRONG. GO PIES

Where would the Pies have been with Jolly out in the second half, or for that matter down to only 19 men in your rotations?. You choose who to lose. No way have the Saints played at their peak. Roo will be better. We will have two rucks next week plus plenty of options. There is so much talk about your inaccurate kicking, apart from Cloke before half time, what about the Thomas shank, Didak from the boundary. I thought you guys kicked well as there were about 8 rushed behinds from the Saints in your tally.

Fantastic game of AFL footy though, make you feel sorry for the Rugby and soccer tragics.

Even before the bounce I thought we were not going to have it all our way today. I can't fathom how most thought we were red hot to win this one. Grand Finals are bloody hard to win and Collingwood of all clubs should know this.

I agree vivien next week is even money. On the day any team could win it especially when Collingwood are playing. I hope Collingwood are more switched on next week. Especially in the second half of the game.

FWIW - We finished on top of the ladder in 1977 and also drew in the GF.

Seriously. You mob could have, should have and didn't. Cloake 20m straight in font, Daisy Thomas, Neon Leon. I think the Saints might have the upper hand, having sussed you lot out. Had it... F@*KIN+ blew it ! See you suckers next year!!!

Carn Saints!!!!
how arrogant are the magpie fans:thumbsdown:what is with that ridiculous chant when your up by a few goals????????????
Man I was hoping you'd lose by a point but it looks like the Saints are going to win by over 3 goals next week they have more heart and Lenny Hayes and Goddard showed the Collingwood midfield a thing or two today.
Hayes wow what a champion:)

Red cards. This is what happens if you troll this board.

Just report them people, and I'll deal with them.

Next week we can win, but so can the Saints based on today. I think we need to "rest" Davis next week though, and maybe bring in a like for like player in Medhurst. How was he going in the two's? Can Goldy play that forward defensive role? If he can, bring him in.
I reckon Presti will play, but Brown did do a pretty good job and it wouldn't surprise me if he kept his spot.

The Saints have bigger bodied players who are mostly older guys compared to ours. I think the advantage of having a younger side means that recovery should be quicker therefor giving us a slight edge. As others have said, St Kilda played at close to their best today, We didn't. We can win, and more than likely we will.

Great game though, intense right until the end. Plus, we get another week of Footy!.

Agree with the Thomas goal however he did make up for it in the 3rd and absolutely shanked a kick when he should have just walked in a kicked it from 20M and the other critical missed goals were Cloke 20M directly in front and blair 30 out directly in front. All the others could have gone either way.

Roo could have played better I disagree with pies supporters that say he played his best. His best would have resulted in 6 goals.

BTW Hayes goal from 50+ had to take his absolute best and he got it. Which is why he is a champion.

Awesome game today...

Saints left short after half time and still found a way to claw back...
can improve next week...

Pies can be better from being pushed for 4 qtrs...

it's gonna be another great game by the looks...

enjoy another GF... how cool!

It's anyone's game, we found that out today.

It comes down to who plays the best, because I'll quarantee we won't draw again.

We're just as much chance as them and I'll go as far as saying our best is better.

I love this post, so many players stood up today (both sides) at times that saying "player X" ****ed up at this point is ridiculous, it was more often that Y players brilliance impacted on Player "X". Was a ****ing GREAT game and while I would have loved the win your guys definately didnt deserve to lose

Another week of footy and if its half the game I will probably stroke out before it ends...all I ask is that we hopefully stop the bullshit posturing and admit how both teams had some players truly stand up today.

For me as far as Pie players go Daisy finally kicked free from "wannabe" status and firmly said I may have the hair of an EMO but the heart of a footballer ;) and your skipper even though running loose at times had the sort of game Hawk supporters are still sucking themselves off over Hodge in '08.

respect for Nick and Daisy!

Well for starters we have to get rid of Davis had like 6 possesions hardly any forward pressure. The only thing that might of saved him was that goal.

I agree with the sentiment that our best is better than today's performance but St. Kilda played a massive role in reducing us to that lower standard. Their pressure was like Brisbane's in the 2003 Grand Final (minus the scoring power, thankfully), so it's not like we can attribute today's result to our players having underperformed.

What are the Pies supposed to do when their opposition lays 100 tackles and makes it virtually impossible to play the brand of football that won us the minor premiership? Don't get me wrong, I still think we can win next week but I'm not sure people here are giving St. Kilda enough credit.

I'm just hoping the Saints won't be able to lock us down two weeks in a row because we really seem to struggle when we can't play our usual style. Our accuracy really takes a dive, too. Meanwhile, the Saints play almost all their games that way -- low scoring, highly-defensive, etc. -- so I'd say they're more experienced at scoring under those circumstances.

I'm going to revisit the replay from Round 16 to see if there was more to our win than the Saints' woeful kicking that day (they only managed 6.16).
