Watch him closely in a game and he is all over his opponent, scragging, scratching, pulling, holding constantly. But for some reason the rules don't apply to him and he is able to get away with it.

So what you're saying is he has reduced his scragging because he doesn't have to compete in as many contests? Give me a break.

Perhaps you should watch him more closely, no? Because I've seen him play 4 times this year live and watched the replay of each of those 4 matches, but only once have I seen him stuck in a one on one against a bigger opponent, Westhoff in round 1, and surprise surprise he was awarded a free kick against for holding. As Slattery pointed out he doesn't need to do it as much anymore as he's now playing secondary roles on the small-medium sized forwards (Edwards, Betts and a resting mid against Richmond which included Cotchin and Martin) which are all players he doesn't need to scrag.

As to your question my answer is, pretty much. I'm not going to sit here and say he doesn't do it because that would be wrong. Fortunately because those one on one's are happening more and more rarely he has reduced it somewhat from his game.

I just suggest you don't underestimate the ability to zone off a player as part of a developmental tool to combat the amount of scragging that was once part of his game.

Anywho sorry for derailing the thread and good luck for Monday.

Reimers would get shafted by Daisy, no-where near hard-working enough or strong overhead. This is probably where Dempsey out hurts, has the pace & height to follow him all around the ground and has added a lot more accountability.

With Didak being a bit quieter (so far, touch wood) this year, stop Shaw, Pendles & Thomas you stop Collingwood IMHO. Can we do that. Hmmm.

I still don't "get" the Thomas hype/fear.

He's a decent player, don't get me wrong, and attacks the contest harder than most (which couldn't have been said in his first few years).

But I'd much rather stop, or have in my side, Pendlebury, Swan, Shaw, Didak etc.

I'd rather the first two, but probably have him ahead of Shaw and definitely ahead of Dids.

Didak was one of our best last week... if you watched us closely we actually dont depend on anyone in particular (apart from Jolly maybe), its generally been a team effort ie if someones down someone else picks up the slack, which is reflected in the number of goal kickers for us in each game. imho just have to out-run us and take risks thats probably your best chance, and play to your owns strengths

I don't know probaly because he averaged 24 touches, 6 marks, 0.7 goals and 3.5 tackles per game in 2010 (including 26 touches, 8 marks, 1 goal and 8 tackles in GF 1 and to prove it wasn't a fluke 27 touches, 8 marks, 1 goal and 1 tackle in GF2)

So far in 2011 he averages 24.2 touches, 7.2 marks, 2.8 tackles and .75 goals a game.

Rubbish, always attacked the contest hard, was always a vicious tackler too.

Ran out of steam early in games as his tank wasn't there but never shirked a contest in his AFL life, to say so is pure tripe (no offence).

Was also used in some very defensive roles in 2009 and played mostly as a deep forward pocket occasional HFF, hard to have a four quarter impact weekly there.

But I'd much rather stop, or have in my side, Pendlebury, Swan, Shaw, Didak etc.
That would be the beauty of our side, you can sit on one maybe 2 heads but another 3 or 4 will still be there ready to bite

I flicked off last week at half-time; it was all Daisy in the first quarter and it was game over after about 15 minutes.
I don't buy the "we are a super-side" bit either. If that were the case you'd be happy to rest Swan, Shaw & Pendlebury in alternate weeks because it's a team effort... no?
In a tight game the good players come to the fore.
In a 10 goal+ game, you see blokes like Blair & Ben Johnson really tear it up. A very very good side, but every side relies on their best 4 or 5 players more than most.

Whomb... he's just ****ing good. He runs, he marks, carries it, kicks it, wins the loose ball, wins the contest. Just a very very very good footballer. He doesn't get rated as much around here because he's not a "real" genuine midfielder but there's not much he can't & doesn't do.

Maybe that's it; because I see him roaming the wings rather than starting on ball.

Not that that should matter, but maybe that's why I don't rate him as highly as Pendles etc.
Possibly, depends how much you rate real quality wingmen though?

He does start in the center square at times and has shown some skill at playing as an inside mid, or as a break away clearance player, but is generally an old fashioned winger for the most part

Hocking has to tag Pendlebury. If Pendlebury gets a heap of the ball Collingwood are going to win 9 out of 10 times.

Who gets the job on Didak?
I think Thomas may also cause some headaches for Essendon - who goes to him?

Watson is the biggest threat for Collingwood- Ball should go with him. Watson is clearly the form inside mid in the game, and stopping him (if possible) will mean game over for Essendon imo.

Good luck!

I'm inclined to think with Slattery not quite ready, it'll fall to McVeigh to play on Didak. That could be an interesting match-up, as Spike will try to get forward on Dids and be a goalkicking option in his own right.

So whats the go with the banner situation on monday?? Are both teams still running through the same banner together?? I actually think this is a great jesture to not only footy but the whole ANZAC theme that everyone can come together in some way no matter the rivalry!!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Can't see why it wouldn't be the case.

Forecast for Monday is 24 and fine by the way.
