Yes true, and as much as i love his effort and attitude i still think that we have not much chance of winning flags when our Copeland trophy winner can't kick straight. I actually cover my eyes when i am watching footy and see Adams streaming towards our forward 50 trying to hit up any of the forwards. Just my opinion but he definitely should be instructed to hand ball.
His kicking was fantastic in 2020.. He kicked goals too. We didn't have many mids kicking goals. Silly.

It'll be in 1 of the videos Adams went inboard to pass to Noble I think it was and it went over his head
In another video Pendles also misses a simple mark, so what does that mean? To me it means that everyone that plays AFL makes mistakes, its all part of a game that is played with an oval ball, at frenetic pace, that is played under fatigue and extreme pressure. Watch Rugby players drop a pass or soccer players miss penalties or NFL players throw a bad pass, so what, get over it.

I wasn't referring to your post, but to the people that complain every time they see a mistake by a player whether it be a kick, handpass, mark etc. I have been to training 6 or 7 times this season and every player has made mistakes, so apologies if you thought it was aimed at you, it wasn't.

I knew what he was talking about in the video. I was saying i didn’t know what he was talking about in regards to Adams’ kicking in general last year, which was significantly improved on previous years. Whether that was due to technique or decision making, it doesn’t matter, his kicking in 2020 wasn’t nearly as bad as that of Treloar or Phillips, regardless of what the numbers say.

:thumbsupemoji: Exactly what i was talking about ,and it's just my opinion backed up by what i have seen over the years ,I do think he improved last year but imo he is still not very good by foot. Others have different opinions that is fine also, at the end of the day i love all our players the same as most of us do.

Pendles is actually a pretty crap mark.

I hope we aren’t approaching a point where we can’t critique issues in a players game. Adams is an average kick. Cox has poor hands. Grundy’s hitout range is poor. Mayne is slow with ball in hand. It doesn’t mean they aren’t valuable members of the club, but rather everyone needs to be aware of those flaws in order to get better as a club.

For instance at a boundary stoppage if you hit the 1 metre in front of Grundy you’re going to get first hands to the ball a lot. You don’t call for it on an inbound kick from Adams. You hit the 90 degrees to the side of the ball entering the 50 when Cox is contesting. Hit up 20-30 metres from Mayne not 30-40. Do those things consistently and we improve as a club, but you have to know your weaknesses first...

So we need a whole new Midfield?

So we need a whole new Midfield?

Every player in the game has flaws even Martin who is extremely one sided and his first instinct is always to fend when confronted with frontal pressure. The key when assessing them as an opponent is how to exploit them and in the case of Martin it’s nigh on impossible. Specifically on our midfield Grundy and Adams have won our past three B&F’s so they do everything else well enough to be exceptional footballers and don’t need to be replaced. Mayne and Cox on the other hand...

I don't mind Adams Turing inboard. If you're behind the ball and Adams looks like winning it, you get on your bike to run past inboard side, because he always turns inboard and does look for a release runner.

It's not so much the awareness that's the issue, it's the oft repeated hyperbole.

I only watched about an hour of training - the boys did a lot of their drills near the fence so it was great to see them close up and hear them interacting

Tried to focus on watching the recruits - thought they had a good session
On Henry - he’s a forward. He often gets separated from the other new boys as they work on stoppages and he develops his craft in another area of the ground
Needs to put on weight but hands were sticky today and he’s so agile
His first 2-3 steps are amazing and he can dodge, weave and explode past opponents
He needs delivery where he can use his burst, marking ability - kicking long on top of his head / contested is not his bag at the moment
He did however take a screamer over Grundy

We've needed a strong marking small-medium forward. Elliott doesn't do it as often as he used to and WHE is too inconsistent, yet they remain our best options.

Wednesday January 20th.

Quite a light session, as mid-week sessions tend to be.

About half the squad was out there. Including.

  • De Goey.
  • IQ
  • Grundy
  • Elliott
  • Tyler Brown
  • Noble
  • Keane
  • Wilson
  • Adams
  • Macrae
  • Kelly
  • Sidebottom
  • Roughy
  • Reef
  • Poulter
  • Murphy
  • McMahon
  • Ginnivan
  • Chugg
  • Henry
  • Maynard
  • Howe

*McMahon just dis running sessions.
*Howe also did running sessions, then hang around the goal square.

They were paired off in two groups initially as they played a little soccer amongst themselves. They do this to add in a bit of fun.

They did some other drills. The kick out from defence. They did this at one side of the ground. Usually would contain Roughy, Chugg, Wilson and Maynard. Then another group came down and did the same thing, which included IQ, Noble, Murphy.

Other things they did was, a drill with run on goals. A few other things.

Selwood worked with the draftees in a small group for a while. Ground ball work and contest stuff.

Bucks even participated in one of the drills in defence. Kicking to Chugg.

It was pretty low key.

Chugg is looking more and more impressive every session. He doesn't train like someone who he 18. Maybe its because he had been playing against men for the last 12 months over in Tassie.

Side note: Rene Kink was watching training. I think he does it fairly often. Rode on his bike.

Nice run down. Thanks 👍 when’s the next training session? Is this posted on club’s website as well?
