Because apparently our club is full of idiots who forget that they got told something days ago.
No, because sometimes the group as just players get together for a team cheer or a team congrats to new player.

Player might even be told Tuesday, but as a group they give a cheer on Thursday.

I'd be surprised if it was that. He was adamant in an interview on Fox this morning that a decision on Buckley wouldn't be made until the review is complete after the season finishes.
I'd say it's extremely likely they've already made their minds up. Think he knows if he announces earlier now he'll look like a buffoon, so they'll smokescreen that it's "after the review." Pert already fell on his sword knowing what was about to come out in the wash.

Oh I have no doubt they've made up their minds. But as I said, they won't announce anything until the review is done, Ed has been very adamant about that.

Seems like such a modest soul. I wouldn't be so self-effacing if I was as handsome as Shaz.

He is the thinking man's studmuffin is Schaz

Training Thursday 24th August
Weather: Cold with sunny periods.
Not Training:
Elliott, Wills, Fasolo, Wells, Varcoe, Greenwood, DeGoey, Pendles
Limited Training:
Sharenberg: walked/jogged a lap early and then disappeared for the day
Crocker: jogged laps and had kicking practice
Available:
Grundy trained well and looks certain.
Elliott was rested due to back soreness but should play.
Sharenberg did very little. Probably being managed.
Adams trained strongly and will play.
Goldy trained well and looks certain.
Shade was on the track for the entire session.

And so the final training session of the year. How time flies. I suppose two things stood out to me today:
1. Jarrod Blair
2. Nathan Buckley
Blair was the centre of a player betting ring down at the Yarra end. Players made a circle and were spoken to by, I'm pretty sure, Jarrod Blair. Players were asked a question and raised hands if in agreement. Then asked another question. As it turned out the questions were, who is backing Blairy and who is backing Adams in a wrestling match? Who would you support loyal Collingwood men and women?
Blair took Adams down surprisingly easily to the delight of the majority who'd backed him. Later in training, the playing group met in the centre of the ground and were again addressed by a player. Couldn't pick up who it was at first, due to Brayden Sier blocking my view, but again, it turned out to be Jarrod Blair. Reckon Blair plays again on Saturday and perhaps it's his last game.

I watched Bucks closely during training at at the end of the session. He delegated most of the session to his deputies and spent a long time with supporters. The press and TV crews followed his every move waiting for a sign. He didn't give any. Many fans asked for family photos with him and one lady handed him a card of thanks and wished him well. Bucks seemed touched.

This did not look like a man taking his last training session. This looked like business as usual. Reckon Bucks already knows his fate and is comfortable with his future as Collingwood's coach.

It was obviously the last training session for many of the line coaches. Sad to consider this when Rocca, Lockyer and Burns were among them. I won't mention names, but one coach's dad turned up to watch the session, probably as a sign of respect and support.

Player Spotlight: Brayden Sier
Decided to spend a lot of the session watching Brayden - not a tough task under any circumstances. As I noted last week, he tends to run around a lot for little impact. Has good skills by hand and foot, bur rarely gets near it. Today he seemed to run around in a relatively narrow arc in the match practice. He had two touches; one was a free against and the other was an accurate handball out of a pack. At no stage did he demand the ball. Only once was the ball delivered to him. During a rest break I watched him closely. He talked to nobody. He spent most of the time looking at his hands.
It reminds me of watching the new kid in the class; he doesn't fit in and looks very insular. Even leaving the field, he appears hesitant and shy as if he can't wait to be away. He's been at the Club for two full seasons, but doesn't seem comfortable. He's only 19 so probably stays on the list, but I'm not overly optimistic about his chances.

Payer Spotlight: Brayden Maynard
Trained impressively as usual and spent a lot of time as the rover in centre ruck setups. Brad Gotch supervised this session with Max Lynch the ruckman and the other rover being Brayden Sier. Gotch firstly gave Sier some tips on body use as the ball was in the air. Maynard was prominent with his ability to read the ball in the air and anticipating where it was going. Will he spend more time on the ball this week?

At the end of the session a couple of players stood out for the time they spent with fans. They are the same guys every week:
Sam McLarty, Jeremy Howe, Ben Reid, Adam Treloar and Bucks of course.

That's a wrap for the year. Happy to answer any questions.

Great read. Really appreciate these updates as I can never make it to training sessions

You give some really interesting insights in your training reports. They could be so dry but you make them really readable and informative and worthwhile. Thanks for taking the effort this year :thumbsu: and hope you continue with them next year.
Blair beating Adams in a wrestle is a big surprise to me. It is probably not too surprising that Seir is displaying a lack of confidence and maybe questioning whether he belongs. It's an interesting human touch to the whole equation that we rarely pause to consider.

I think a good point to realise is that for the majority of the past 2 years he has been injured, so has been part of the rehab group. Reminds me of what pendles said about schaz that its a lonley place and being part of it doesnt really make you feel like part of the team heres hoping he can settle in with a good preseason.

I was going to post something after a VFL game a while back, but thought I'd leave it alone. Your post on Sier has made me reconsider. On a couple of occasions at the VFL this year, when Sier was sidelined with injury, I've seen him at the ground but very much off to the margins, by himself, engaging little or not at all with the playing group or coaches.

I enjoy my own company, so I tried not to read too much into it, but my (very superficial and probably not representative) impression was of a player who wasn't really 'enmeshed' with the club environment. I'd like to see him around for at least another year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he made his own decision to take the pressure off himself and rediscover his love for the game elsewhere.

Mazzarjo - I just wanted to echo the sentiments of others who have already posted and give my own thanks for your efforts this year. In a season which has (let's be honest) been pretty dark for the most part, your reports have been a really bright relief.

On behalf of all those who can't get down to the Holden Centre and appreciate these reports as much as I do - thank you!

You're a bonafide Collingwood gun.

Go Pies.

I forgot to add my gratitude for your reports throughout the year. Thanks Mazzarjo for your work. You've enlightened and entertained in what has otherwise been a year to forget.
