Are The Dockers Tanking?

To answer the question you'd have to think there's a bit of that going on for sure. As others have pointed out already this season is a write off, with Fyfe and Bennell gone for the year plus Johnson and Sandilands out for a large chunk. Add to that they are being forced to change game plans and blood kids. So with that in mind, seeings finals are off the table, would they rather finish bottom 4 and get a high pick or finish mid table and miss out on the top talent on offer? It's not the best but I can't say I blame them, that's the system we have in place currently.

No he wasn't. His ball use ranged between average and shit. Collecting heaps of the ball should be par for the course for an AFL player at WAFL level. It's how you use it in the much slower, much lower pressure WAFL environment that matters. It's here that Barlow consistently let's himself down. The goals sugar coated a very average performance.

Given the options surely you'd take winning the ball with questionable user over not winning the ball and questionable use.

No. Compare Barlow at WAFL level to Langdon, Blakely, Weller, Grey etc and the difference is clear. I'm no Barlow hater by the way, I just believe he is part of the past.

Good example is last week's game. Barlow had 39 possessions whilst Edwards from South Fremantle had 23. Edwards 23 was worth far more than Barlow's 39. Possession numbers DON'T tell the whole story.

I don't think Freo are trying to lose in order to get a top 5 draft pick but they're clearly getting games into new players and trying new things.

Barlow, Mzungu, Sutcliffe all played WAFL today. De Boer was the non-playing emergency tonight. These guys would be in the side or next man in it if Freo were in the 8. Instead Ed Langdon, Lachie Weller and Ethan Hughes are playing.

Also there's not a whole lot they can do about Sandilands (2 games this year), Fyfe (5), Mundy (5), Johnson (4) and now Hill (8) being injured. Likewise Bennell, even though his whole story has raised eyebrows.

Ross Lyon is screwed either way though. Play the kids, lose, tanking. Play the foot soldiers, fall short, can't win a flag and ruins lists. I doubt he cares what people think, though - and since the club has him signed up until the end of 2020 I doubt they do either.

I'm just enjoying that the top 8 is full of sides playing exciting, attacking football.

I love how Clarko has more first year players in our team each week and lost more players to retirement and injury yet we are still in the premiership hunt and Freo winless.

I love this because it clearly emphasises the gap between these coaches once and for all.

One is possibly the GOAT. The other gives you a tease before ruining your club.

He will eventually be sacked. The longer he stays the worse Freo will end up.

They should tank. What have they got to gain from this year right now? Nothing. Might as well get a great pick.

Not sure if they are tanking ............. but by God is great to watch and witness their speedy demise.:):D

Ross is such a smug sanctimonious prick its nice to see him wriggle and squirm in his pressers.

Ross said no, so no they're not o_O

They have some of their best players out though so even if they are tanking it'd certainly be hard for the AFL to prove it.

After the Carlton loss I think they all realised there was nothing left to gain out of this season except for playing youngsters.

Were you at the game? I was.
the game was on television, a lot of freo members would have watched it
Barlow was a class above today and was clear best on ground with 44 and 3 goals, he dominated today

I agree that he was average even with 39 last week but he will earn a recall with his effort today, seriously give the game another watch and you will see.

They were only ever good because Ross' game plan is flooding the ball and making it hard for the opposition to score. He forced a rule change because of his scum tactics and thank fk the afl decided to do something about it. Fremantle were a blight on the game we all love and it's great to see that their game plan is dead

Freo are the anti-Leicester. Has to be one of the biggest falls from grace after finishing minor premiers last year.

I can't see it improving that much in the next few years. An early pick means they will have a very good / gun player in about three years time. Sandilands has just re-signed. Are there any rucks or key forwards being brought on in the WAFL? If they get the young bloke from GWS, he will need a year or two to get up to speed and he might change his mind at the end of the year anyway.

It's looking terrible. :) whoops, I meant...:(

I've heard this a few times but I fail to see what rule change has suddenly turned Freo into crap. Deliberate OOB? Punishing teams for trying to keep the ball in a pack has been around for ages and it's not like Sydney don't keep it tight or restrict teams from scoring.
