They made a prelim last year - following up on a prelim in 2014.
If we make a prelim this year then it will be seen as a very successful year.

Thanks to having the easiest draw ever. And who did they beat to make the prelims? They beat a shitty Essendon side in the elimination final, and were lucky to beat a half injured Geelong side thanks to some help from the umpires. In 2015, they beat Richmond (Everyone knows they're easy beats in the finals), and they beat an injured Sydney. And, in both prelims they were smashed.
North are a nowhere side. They won't win a premiership anytime soon with this side... So, if we're comparing ourselves to Norf, we are in deep trouble.

And yet they have far outperformed us, and most other AFL clubs, over the last 2 years.
Let's just get this group back to being a Top 4 side before we start saying getting to a Prelim isn't something to at least aim for.

When you say losing Freeman was a hit, you mean choosing Freeman right?
A top 10 draft pick leaving after 2 years is a big hit.
But yes, choosing Freeman in the first place was also a huge mistake taking into account the amazing talent that went just after him in the draft...

They scrapped into the 8 last year by one win. In a year where we also beat them as well... Not exactly an outpeforming team. I'm not saying we shouldn't aim for something a little high up, but aspiring to be Norf is that much of a goal.

How can a team be rated when they finished 12 and have been sliding down the ladder for the last 5 years.

I guarantee that if we win well tomorrow night people will be talking us up as a finals side again. Our supporters are very fickle. I'll reserve judgement after we have played more than one game if that is ok

Dont be so negative. We dont have a shit list, we have a young list who i rate 14th best in the comp. There are much better lists than ours

Is this thread overrated? I say yes. Here's the facts: We've had our asses kicked three years in a row (freo, bulldogs, swans). Next year, before round 1, I'd get the players individually & collectively to see the club shrink, because somethings going on. We're looking at a new phenomenon. I reckon the preseason is so built up & hype filled, that when round 1 comes around, it's anticlimactic. Just a theory. Maybe freo, bulldogs & swans were just very good.

This week has been a blur, suffering from PTSD* and have been wandering around muttering to myself like a lunatic. Everything I thought I believed in was destroyed last week in a blaze of red and white. It was so bad it was not even worth reflecting on too closely and it was best to just sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happened. If it hadn't been for the incessant repeats of Swannie's injury it might have been possible, but the thought of a season without the great man is just too depressing. Tomorrow night can't come quick enough but I can't believe that a bunch of talented footballers can suddenly become mugs overnight and hopefully we'll turn it around.
Major problem that I hope they've been addressing this week is the kick-ins - too slow, too inaccurate, too few ideas, too many rebounds straight back in. We need Goldy and his torps just to create a bit of variety as they have been a disaster through the NAB and in Round 1
Let's hope we'll never have to mention Round 1 2016 again and we'll go on a decent run
