Analysis Are we really contenders for the flag?

This is an interesting debate. On our average (both form and results) you'd say we aren't a contender.

BUT ...

+ This is a roller coaster year. Anything goes.
+/- The Doggies broke the mould last year by not being top four, but, we would need to travel probably every week which they didn't.
+ The bulk of this team did get us to a GF two years ago.
- The final is played on the 'G which we don't seem to like.
+/- The top three seem to have the jump on the rest, but, they still have their hiccups.
+ With the exception of maybe Parto we have tried a few young'uns and a few older players may now be 'depth' so we may be finally finding our best 22*. (*I deliberately didn't mention Lecca and Pridda - there's enough elsewhere on that!)
+ Our good does seem pretty good.
- Our bad is very bad.
+ The FTB tag is NOT justified as we can/have beaten better sides.

So even after shattering losses - where I think we are freakin' useless - I then think 'well we are not out of it ... yet'.

On balance ... I'd say we aren't in contention. But then again ...

Where are you getting our good is pretty good from? Have scraped over the line in most of our wins and are still outside of the top eight with five rounds to go. Every team in the top eight and probably a few others have at stages by now shown better patches of form than what we have at our best.

Simpson ( in todays presser) did say that in 12 months time the team will look very different and named some players to be excited about. So to me it sounds like they have accepted the team needs a clean out.
