Just announced - Lord to be on KB show SEN to put his case for being president

I wonder If KB will be the 'sycophant' his earlier guest almost accused him of being

I'd say yes

So what did Geoff Lord have to say on SEN ?

The first comments linking Lord to the presidency came from Billy Brownless, and it was just Billy being Billy. Jake Niall then ran his article and everyone's jumped on it but it doesn't seem to me like it was even in Lord's sights - the whisper across the soccer world is that Lord might be moving from MV to the a-league commission, which would be a bigger role than Hawks pres.

To me, Lord seemed surprised when first asked about it and said he wouldn't run unless invited. I don't think that line has changed.

And you're absolutely right, Slattery -- the very idea that a guy would shift from soccer to AFL and then spend his time trying to convert people to soccer is a joke.
The very idea that a guy who has slagged our game at every opportunity in the past few years should then be trusted to lead an Australian Football club is a joke.

Oh please. Pointing out the AFL's obvious paranoia about other codes (a known fact) isn't slagging off the sport. When you're running a soccer club, you make soccer-centric comments, and when you're running an AFL club, you make AFL-centric comments. It's the nature of the game.

Yeah I'm not saying he's the right or wrong guy by any means, I've no effing idea to be honest, but do you really think he'd what...
Tell his 'rookies' to stop playing footy & give soccer a go?
Go to every Hawthorn event & tell members not to rock up?
Give all of your addresses to Victory membership people so they'd bombard you with flyers (actualy pretty much every club does that for their sponsors, so it's not out of the question...) ?
Tell the players to stop running Auskick clinics & start running soccer ones?

Laughable.
He might have done this & that in the past, he is and has been involved with soccer, but he's not a complete fool.

And yes, that "crowd trouble" article was a complete BS beat-up fuelled - if not started by - this exact paranoia.

Maybe he can tell us where to get flares then ?

Apart from the Qld fury issue, soccer needs its people ringt now now. Apparently the MV coach acknowledged the huge gulf between A league and J league

Flares can be taking from boats on moorings.

Lord is an AFL person, not a football person. Don't want him

KB has just said that Geoff will be on after 10am today.

Wouldnt have a crack unless Hawthorn asked him to do it.

Am I interested in the job? - if the support was their from the club, he would be interested.

Only interest so far is from outside the board but from 'insiders'

Flattered that the interest has been there.

Why did you step down in the 90's - a mistake, anti merger, should have stayed on.

Moved on from Victory - has time on his hands.

He is not going to do anything pro-actively, just wait for the 'invite'

Then he spoke about soccer and its state... (Nth QLD etc)

I just think that if you are going to be a president of an Australian football club you have to be 100% committed to the game and its future prosperity. It's fine for supporters to follows as many codes as they like, but a club president is a senior position in the AFL, and I don't think you can have someone in the role who has a foot in two camps. Even if he has sold his shares, he obviously still has a deep commitment to the Victory evidenced by his anti AFL comments 2 weeks ago.
The thing is that Hawthorn is an Australian Football club and it exists for the sole purpose of the playing and advancement of Australian Football. The president has to have that level of commitment to the game and the club and I don't think Lord has either.

Not so sure that recollection coincides with the facts

What are you not sure about ???????

There's obviously a few people behind the scene's trying to get Geoff to take over.

Sounds good to me.

Geoff Lord...?

He was on the board during the time of Coote's presidency which left the club a shambles, became president thereafter and quickly left the sinking ship. No thanks.

Quoe from Lord - Ch 18 One for all on 1995 discussions with Fitzroy - there had also been meetings with melbourne and collingwood

"They had 8000 members, no home ground, no administration, We were going to move everything across to Glenferrie. The only concession we talked about was the hawk. We were prepared to be the hawthorn Lions, with a gold lion on the jumper insted of a Hawk. if you picked up 6 million. 8000 members and pert and Roos. it wasn't a bad sort of a deal. As a corporate businessman, I though it was a deal made in heaven"

compressing the chapter, Three directors didnt like the approach to fitzroy becasue they had themselves approached melbourne - a merger in which melbourne intended to take over hawthorn much like lord intended to take over fitzroy.

Vidor Knott and Mckenzie are the ones quoted

Richie Vandenberg

I like his style if he doesn't get what he wants he will just beat it out of them.

Shane Crawford

Leigh Matthews

John Howard

Don't think lord will get the job - too compromised (I think he still owns melbourne victory) too old & alienated a number at the club during his previous tenure.

Wouldn't mind harris or neubold - both seem good operators and are experienced being existing board members.

I don't agree with you.

Time will tell

Interesting quote pess - I would rather we didn't go from a semi-retired politician to a corporate businessman looking for a deal.

There are far better alternatives than recycling old hacks.

That's not a nice thing to say about my dad.....:D:D

I don't agree with you.

Time will tell
I would have hated to be around you if you were in Nazi Germany!

Just go along with what ever your leader tells you to do.

"Invade other nations? Murder millions? If Hitler says it's so, then it must be right!"

Do you always do what people tell you to do and believe? Why don't you try and do some research and form opinions of your own and don't simply follow blindly with whatever Kennett and his board of yes men always do?

Just because they represent Hawthorn doesn't mean they are always right.
