He turns 27 in a couple of weeks.

He’s done a couple of pre-seasons.

I agree with you that it’s confidence/above the shoulders but I also feel like we’ve seen enough now - this setup up in standards is just too much for him.

It probably is, but I just have an inkling we aren’t seeing what he’s capable of. Based on this year, it doesn’t look like we ever will.

How he played tonight ahead of Krueger baffles me, he hasn’t got a competitive bone in his body. Has more natural talent than him, but that’s not enough at this level.
He played ahead of Krueger because he had more ability.

Krueger might get his chance next week.

Unlikely to do any better.

You hoped he would have a good game, but at the back of your mind, you knew it was the wrong decision to select him.

It was a shame it was that bad. I didn't think it was gonna be like that, two quarters not touching the ball. Took a nice mark or two eventually, but it was too late.

Sad. I was wishing so badly that AJ would snap a goal or two and win us the game while boosting his shattered morale. But what we got were couple of almost moments and one exquisite passage of play when he took a nice mark and set up a goal with a slicing pass to Sullivan. I thought that might have been the turning point. Nope.

In terms of what our forward line needs then it's Kreuger and easily.

Ash will go to another club and when that said teams has not too many injuries will be great as a third or fourth forward. Maybe the Tigers, Kangaroos, Port. In a structure that suits him better he will be good.

However in our structure which is generally at most two talls and we need someone to really compete hard then Ash is not that player. I don't want to see May destroy him again on Kings birthday. Cannot be allowed to happen.

But the durability of Ash is greater and Ash has more runs on the board than Kreugs and maybe that swung it in his favour.

We played Ash who gave us nothing up forward, no contesting and the coaching staff were also unwilling to use him in the ruck and allow us to play our settled version of the backline.

Kreuger might have done the first, would certainly have done the second and would be no worse than Ash in the ruck for a few minutes per quarter.

Ash’s form has been terrible, so the only rational argument for him over Kreuger is that Kreuger hadn’t gotten enough games under his belt yet and we wanted to set him up for success…

… but how does that mesh with then playing Dean on Darcy? Frampton up forward? Ash himself when horribly out of form? None of those guys were set up for success…

Highly doubt another club would take Ash.

The brief lustre I had with Ash has sadly faded.
Shows a trick at times but gets gassed too quickly.
Although not a fan, Krueger will give more contest.
Freddy to compete next week (until the usual injury).

Ash has tools but isn’t going to put it all together if he hasn’t by now.

Macrae and Bytel on the other hand lack weapons, but can fill a depth role where you largely know what you’re going to get in a pinch.

HH, Richards, Kreuger, Allan, Parker, Reef have untapped upside and should be preferenced for opportunities as much as possible.

Sullivan is somewhere in between, can’t quite work him out yet.
