Maybe the coaching group were hoping Ash would play to his ability.We played Ash who gave us nothing up forward, no contesting and the coaching staff were also unwilling to use him in the ruck and allow us to play our settled version of the backline.
Kreuger might have done the first, would certainly have done the second and would be no worse than Ash in the ruck for a few minutes per quarter.
Ash’s form has been terrible, so the only rational argument for him over Kreuger is that Kreuger hadn’t gotten enough games under his belt yet and we wanted to set him up for success…
… but how does that mesh with then playing Dean on Darcy? Frampton up forward? Ash himself when horribly out of form? None of those guys were set up for success…
Sadly, it didn’t happen.
I’ve no problem with Krueger getting his chance against the Dees.
Hope he goes well.
