Dear Leigh,

You should return your number 2 and give it to someone who has something to give to the club, rather than throw your body into useless uncompetitive battles that sees little happen except you floundering around on the ground while the ball goes on for a goal. Schwatta deserved the number 2 jumper. You don't. Retire and let someone else have a go. Sick and tired of hearing how good a bloke you are...I am sure you are...but really you need to give something more that will help us win. I know, you weren't the only one today, but when I see Scott Welsh and young mooney coming along, it makes me wonder.
So wear and play that number 2 with some heart and guts next week...in the reserves,

Gasometer

Gotta wonder what the bloke has to do to get some support from some Roo supporters.

He was our second best player IMO opinion today and if we had more people that were prepared to put there body on the line we would have done a lot better.

Opposition supporter view who has only seen him play one game this year, so make of it what you will.

Colbert played on a very good footballer today, who came off a best on ground performance the week before. In a 24 goal performance, Nick Holland got one. Last week, Dutchy got 11 marks. This week, one.

Considering the rest of the forward line was pretty good (and had plenty of opportunities), I think the man who played on Holland and kept him to five touches, one mark and one goal would have done a pretty good job.

No, Colbert's not a "physical" player in the Archer mould, but neither is Jade Rawlings, or Darren Gaspar, or any other number of class key defenders.

I thought Colbert was just about your best today.

Amazing hey Moomba. Does the job on a guy playing in a forward where they're all lining up and some people still can't help themselves.

Unrealistic expectations me thinks. Give the guy a break, he IS improving everyweek. Well said DCFC.

Give the guy a break, his looking better each week, the guy just needs confidence and hopefully he'll get it all back, his just had a poor run with injuries.

Now why don't you have a go at Grant you don't see him throwing his weight at the ball or should I say putting his body on the line. And he isn't the one coming back from injury.

Remember Joel Smith??? It took him a few years to get back to his best and now look at him.

Ahh Morpheus, its a good point u make about Joel Smith.. but its been a couple of years since Colbert had his knee reco.. and he still hasnt recovered.. but things have just been made worse.. with more injuries.

Drop the guy to the Magoos.. at the end of the year tell him to retire- and to come back when hes ready to be an assistant coach.

Go Roos

Tashi

A number of people reckon Colbert was one our best today, and I think there are a number of others I would drop on todays performances before Colby.

I also think that he will be valuable for the Roos for years to come provided:

1 - The money side can be worked out. He shouldn't be paid as one of elite members of the team unless we are sure he will play like one of the elite members.

2 - His knee is OK. According to someone on here Tamsyn Lewis has said that Colby intends to play for another five or so years, so his knee could be on the mend.

Remember that while it has been two years, Leigh has just come back from an injury interrupted season and I think he has looked better and better each week. I expect him to start doing more than just nullifying his opponents and there were a few good signs of him getting the ball and bringing it forward today.

I would wait a while before we retire Colby, I am still clinging to the hope that we shut up the Geelong supporters and others who have been a bit too keen to sink the boots.

Moomba

PS - Spriggs injured, Enright injured, Mooney 3 possessions 1 goal against the Lions. Might have to add one point to the Roo scoreboard.

Go Roos

From what I've heard it took Joel Smith nearly 3 seasons to find his form and from what I saw today (not like some) he doesn't deserve to be in the magoos. played a good game today was in our best. destroyed Holland.

Colbert was one of our best today

Some of you just need to stop looking at him so negatively

Why don't you hand back your membership? We really don't need supporters like you

And a story from our site

Colbert shines on 'black day'

Kangaroos coach Denis Pagan was naturally very disappointed with his side’s performance in their 68-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday, labeling it as a “black day” for the club.

The Roos were jumped at the start when the Hawks kicked six goals before anyone had blinked and were always playing catch up footy after that.

“We’re pretty disappointed with the way we played today,” Pagan said. “From the first bounce when Matthew Burton fell over, you look back now and you say to yourself it set a pattern that lasted all day.”

The Kangaroos willingness to do the hard work, and the simple work, such as staying on their opponents, a trait of their usual game, was sadly missing on Saturday.

Time and time again, the Hawks were able to stroll into the forwardline and almost conduct a raffle to decide who was going to kick the next goal, with not enough pressure being applied by the Kangaroos.

“They carved us up with their uncontested brand of football and ran us off our legs and were harder than us when it really mattered most,” Pagan concluded.

The Roos could only manage five goals in the first half, mainly due to a lone hand up forward by Shane Clayton, who kicked three of them. For the same period, the Hawks booted 14.

The second half was much more competitive, with the Kangaroos kicking eight goals to 10, but the sting was well and truly out of the game by that stage.

With the exception of Clayton, Shannon Grant and Troy Makepeace, all of the Roos’ players had their colours lowered in the first half, but there were more encouraging signs in the second half, with Sav Rocca and Byron Pickett (who laid seven tackles) having more of an influence, after starting very quietly.

Grant and Clayton continued to work hard after half-time and received some support from reliable midfielders Anthony Stevens, Adam Simpson and Ben Robbins.

Centre half-back Leigh Colbert restricted Nick Holland to just three touches and one mark, a particularly good effort considering how much time the ball spent in the Hawks’ forwardline.

Despite the overall poor performance, Pagan was still able to take some positives from the match.

“One or two individuals played pretty well,” he said. “Shane Clayton did pretty well and I thought Troy Makepeace did too.”

“Much-maligned Leigh Colbert did a terrific job on Nick Holland. I watched him (Holland) play last week and he was best on ground with four goals. I thought Leigh’s negating role that he played today was first class.”

“(But) you look at that and there weren’t too many other positives out of it.”

In what was a dirty day for the Kangaroos, youngster Daniel Motlop deserves a mention for a performance which was heartening for supporters. In his first game for the season and only the third of his career, the 20 year-old did a few good things amongst his 11 possessions, eight of which came after half-time. He was by no means his team’s worst.

“We think that Daniel Motlop’s going to be a player,” Pagan said. “But he’s (still) got a bit of work to do.”

And so do his teammates, who can expect a fairly tough week on the track, ahead of next Saturday’s trip to Perth to play the West Coast Eagles.

“Our blokes have been sensational for five weeks,” Pagan said. “We fell apart at the seams today, but we’ve just got to regroup and start again on Monday at training.”

Looks like Clayts has become little Red Riding Hood & Colby is now the Big Bad Wolf on this Forum.
:) :) :)

Cheers,

The Munster.

Denis Pagan on Channel 7 just then rated Colbert on of our best two players for the game. He also said that if others had shown the same commitment he wouldn't be sitting this morning in the same position.

I must admit Gasometer that the prospect of another quarter in that sun was defeated by the lure of the third quarter drinking beers and watching the game on the TV in the Pagans Bar. I made the effort for the fourth quarter though, but I don't know if that was a smart move or not.

I am not anti-Colbert as some might believe, I think he still has something to offer the club this year, and hopefully in the furture too HOWEVER I thought yesterday's game wasn't as good as others believe.

As I've posted elsewhere, I thought the Colbert-Holland duel was irrelevant to the game.

After a BOG last week announcing that Holland was "back in town", maybe Schwab sensed the opposition would become Holland-conscious, and instructed his players to kick to other options, hence Barker, Barlow, Dixon, Ries etc all getting a fair bit of the footy.

A good example of changing the game plan and structure depending on the opponent.

Colbert may not be soft on the whole, but I thought his game yesterday was ordinary. Whitnall beat him last week, and he was shocking in the first two weeks.

What do you think is more likely to come out of Pagan's mouth : "Yeah he was ordinary again and I was wrong about putting him in the seniors to get match fitness", or a few words pumping up Colbert's tyres to keep the fans convinced?

Whitnall did nothing last week.

I think there was a fair element of pumping his tyres in the first few weeks. I think Denis wouldn't say that Colbert was in our best two if he didn't genuinely believe he was in our best two.

i'm guessing none of you saw the punch in the guts and slap on the face holland gave colbert in the 1st and 2nd quarter of the game did you? this boy has character, after heaving in the big ones he got back up and was back on holland in the air matching it with him....he's gotten better in the last two weeks that i've seen him.....out in subi will be the big test on his fitness and his knees.....but he doesn't deserve to be dropped he's played well and played outstanding today on a man that could have also ripped us apart

Havent read any replies to the first post as I was so incensed by the title of the thread I had to reply straight away. Didnt Leigh play on Holland? How many touches did Holland get? There are others who should be incurring the wrath of supporters more than this bloke!
If every defender nullified their forward like Leigh did, the result would have been a little different I'm sure.

I thought Colby did an excellent on Holland - contested everything and frustrated him. Colby now has a black eye for his troubles !

The fault was in the midfiel - simmo had his worst game for a long time, stevo was run off his feet. No one was on Crawford and it was the quick turnovers from half forward / midfield that killed us.

No crumbers up forward when the ball got there and hawthorn were able to easily sweep the ball away.

When you're hot you're hot, when you're not you get thumped !

which game were you at
