Modified exemptions like the AFL teams got. They were still allowed out to train, etc during their two weeks.

It's a reasonable compromise. WA Government still gets to say "they're in quarantine!" and players still get to do the required work. And frankly, if they do intra squad matches, they're basically out of the hotel for the vast majority of the day anyway.
And once they've done their two weeks in WA, that's it - they can pretty much travel around the rest of the country freely.
Players want to travel freely with family before the test ie no quarantine.
I’d be very surprised if CA changes the schedule.
Anyway I guess we will find out soon enough

I see the morality cops who occupy the upper echelon of British cricket press are out in force, once again.
Somehow, it appears Tim Paine is to blame for the UK government’s handling of COVID and any associated deaths.
Just because you can write like your mother was a thesaurus and your father was a fountain pen does not necessarily make you right.

the reality is tim paine is a flog and if he had learnt anything at all in the last 4 years as captain he'd have played the whole issue with a much 'straighter bat'. it really is embarrassing how poorly a man in his 30s mediates his language. don't know why its so hard to just acknowledge the fact half our country is currently in lockdown and that yeah logistically getting england here for a five test series in five different states may prove somewhat more challenging than you'd like.

Paine knows the way the world works as well, the top english players have no power here this is about any 11 players from england turning up to play just so CA gets its money just like that rescheduled 5th test between england and india will not be about having a fitting conclusion to that series it will be a meaningless one off test so ecb can get their cash.

Love the arrogance from some in the England playing group regarding postponement. Like it's that easy, like we don't have tourists already lined up to come here next summer. Do they really think that if they can't send their best squad that we are just going to disrupt 2 Australian summers, all for them? All while a hand full of countries have toured them for their last 2 summers during the pandemic.

I am not sure they are all that clued into what the ripple effect would be if Australian Cricket is financially devastated this summer with no Ashes would be for them down the road. Do they really think we would just rock up there in 2023 like nothing happened? Like broadcasters won't demand compensation.

ECB just released an update statement which has made some people very excited about England potentially pulling out. I get the feeling that a decent amount of England fans are super keen for this Ashes to be postponed simply because they think they'll have a better chance of winning in 12 months. Probably the same for some of the players.

Just catching up here, but how is this 'Paine's fault' - was he advocating for the series to go ahead or be cancelled..? And would the opinion of either team captain be relevant vs the those of CA or the ECB..?

No doubt the push for it to be canceled by fans is more about form, if england were winning and archer and stokes were touring their fans would be attacking any others who dared pull out of the prestigious tour.

The reality is, CA should really be across the test captain's media commitments, what he's allowed to say and have a public opinion on.

I also kind of love how we seem to expect our test captain to be our best cricketer, the best umpire in the world for referalls, the most mediated spokesperson and diplomat on radio, the best sledger whilst also being the best bloke, and now somehow a better politician than the PM. Just because Steve Waugh was up to it doesn't mean every subsequent captain will also be.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they're deliberately letting Paine off the leash to give him just enough rope to hang himself.

Let me put it this way, Peter: I don't want to sacrifice my parents for a game of cricket, even the Ashes. When you can provide me an argument in favour of the Ashes going forward that doesn't require risk to my parents, I'm down; til then, perhaps keep your eloquently expressed dogshit to yourself, hmm?

I think you're confusing the ECB and the playing group. They're not aligned.

I'd settle for Paine being one of those things tbf. Hell I'd settle for him understanding that if a draw can get you an Ashes series win or a World Test Championship finals berth then maybe the tactics should be centred around that.

Absolutely.

Notice you didn't pull me up on the one thing Australians don't seem to want from their captain: being a decent captain.

I know they haven't been but that statement just released has even got me thinking there is a small chance the ECB will actually back some of the players and pull out.

Some of the players & fans really have tried to come up with any excuse they can think of.

While some of them take shots at us because of how much Test Cricket we have played the last 18 months while they casually hope our upcoming Test summer is completely disrupted by their team. Disingenuous w***ers.

I could see the ECB sending out a second-string team. They are more about meeting broadcaster requirements than anything else.

The ECB has created this situation where some multi-format players have been in a form of bubble for the past 18 months because of their ridiculous scheduling, internationally and domestically.

If a player revolt results in a B team coming out here and getting thrashed, maybe it might force a re-think at the ECB about whether they need to try and fill every day of the calendar with cricket.

England have played 20 tests since the start of the pandemic. Australia have played just 4. The arrogance is from Australia believing that England owe them a tour when they've done sfa to help international cricket the past two years.

That's not arrogance. It's about having a decent, and not selective, memory of the past year and a half.

What you just wrote is total garbage.
