Look I hate drops in pitches too but for this type of pitch I had no problems last year it wasn’t the pitch that caused us to get flogged. The pitch was fair.

Ideally we’d go back to no drop ins though. Glad the SCG and the GABBA haven’t sold out yet for silly drop in rubbish
Page prepared a wicket that basically ticked every box for the touring side. They will have been salivating looking at it, and rightly so. Tough to beat the Indians on our terms, but when you heavily weight what should be our home advantage the touring sides way, we're cooked

I agree mostly, but the SCG has been bad for a while now, possibly the worst of all the test grounds in Australia.

I'd want a pitch that suits our greatest asset - our quicks. What do you need for them to excel? Pace and bounce. The MCG hasn't had that under Matt Page or the previous curator.

I want pitches country wide that crack and make things difficult for batsman who have half a tree dried into each bat, roped in boundaries and fresh gloves every 30 minutes. A Test is supposed to Test everyone, drop ins are creating boring one sided spectacles, and the MCG has been the worst of our drop ins

But pitches that favour fast bowlers don’t help Australia because your batsmen suck if there’s life.

You’re screaming out for a pitch like the Boxing Day 2010 which England destroyed Australia on!

Outside of Smith it's not like our batting has excelled on the lifeless drop ins. You're not improving them by making it easier.

Trust me I agree. Still better than a drop in though. Shield this year has been better though who knows let’s hope for a spin track

There should have been no excuses this was the India B-C side at that stage. The pitch was fine, the selection wasn’t. It was abysmal

Without lifeless drop ins you’d need an entirely new batting lineup as there’s no way Warner, Head, Green or Carey could make runs otherwise.

We have to be on our game our record is not great there for the past few years...we beat the kiwis but India has beaten us twice at the G plus we had Cooks epic on a road which resulted in a draw

Yep even the worst Number 6 on Test history (min 30 Tests) scored a ton. This directly followed his other ton on a Perth Autobahn.

The G has improved since, offering a bit for bat and ball.

I like Boland as a Shield player but have real doubts about his ability at the next level.

Such a pity Pattinson has retired from Test cricket.

Sort of, except when it isn’t. It should be better than the drop ins, but it’s not

Have faith this year as they spoke about how they were VERY disappointed with how it was last year. Giving it another chance this year. I'll never vote for a drop in, and we've been asked at AGM's.

I think that's overly harsh on Green so young in his career. He'll make runs anywhere in the world in good time, but for those others named, it would force them to alter their techniques and selectors might stop basing Test selection on how far player x or y can hit a six. Alternatively, they don't play.

Instead you get guys like Head who pokes outside off too frequently or Harris who is just questionable everywhere going down the Handscomb route where they don't change anything but expect different results.

I think ultimately, you get better cricketers.

Is Ashes cricket only good in England? Can barely remember a decent test in the last 3 series here that weren’t us spanking England in the same way everytime.

I know there are plenty that love watching us beat the poms no matter what, but a test like Headingly sticks out amongst the one sided results we’ve had here over the last decade.

I'd rather flog them senseless thanks. Hedingly was rubbish to watch it was just a bunch of comical errors losing a test

Yeah, my unpopular opinion is the Ashes is over-rated.

Is is that big a deal for England to lose when they get another crack in 18 months?

Still our best series unless you are thinking India

We disagree again,I like a contest.OR if we are the underdog then flog them especially in England.Went to nearly every South Melb.game from 1960 till 1980 and I know what it is like to be the under dog and even the 1st 15 years in Sydney.

Someone has forgotten the summer of 2010-11

India and South Africa are the only teams recently that haven't gotten beaten well here most of the time. England is just going to have to get better. It's not like this is some GOAT Australia team at the moment. It's a good team but has holes in it.

You've brought this up more than a few times the last 2 weeks. I am not sure what you want people to tell you. If you're not enjoying it then don't watch?

I'd rather not watch us drop catches, fluff runout and waste DRS

India and Australia are by far the two toughest countries to tour in world cricket, and visiting teams will get flogged 9/10 times in those countries (10/10 in the case of India in recent times). Therefore you'll get the obvious one sided games that can get boring.

I'm usually excited more when India tour overseas than the home season, except maybe when Australia tour India when it got close last time. But overseas tours are much more exciting imo, there's a sense of unknown and unpredictability - whether the team can overcome the alien conditions and obstacles to win or be overwhelmed by the conditions away from home. I'm much more excited for the upcoming Indian test tour of South Africa than India's last home series against New Zealand (eventhough NZ are a much better team on average than South Africa at the moment).

I try to enjoy these wins at home as could be some very dark times ahead with tours we have coming up, for all the talk about competitive cricket fact remains we havent won a single away series for nearly 6 years, its just one sided results but the other way round.

Would like to see Khawaja come in for Harris in Melbourne to be that stop-gap solution for the next 12 months (until Pucovski is fit or either Street/Henry knock the door down with weight of runs). We have a huge 12 months of sub-continent cricket coming up so we need the extra experience I believe.

As for England, I'd drop Burns for Crawley (he's worth persisting with) and bring in Lawrence for Hameed, moving Malan to open. I'd bring in Foakes to replace Buttler too. Pope and Lawrence are their future, protect them at 5 and 6 - they'll eventually come good.

1) Warner
2) Khawaja
3) Labuschagne
4) Smith
5) Head
6) Green
7) Carey (wk)
8. Cummins (c)
9. Richardson
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Starc to have a rest and be cherry ripe for Sydney and Hobart.

1) Crawley
2) Malan
3) Root (c)
4) Stokes
5) Lawrence
6) Pope
7) Foakes (wk)
8) Bess
9) Robinson
10) Wood
11) Anderson

Would like to see Parkinson in their side but I think they'd give Bess a go before Leach
