Ashes 2021/22

Ask Australia who they'd rather face and they would sign the ticket now to face Wood or Robinson over those two
Anderson’s average in Australia is nearly (35.43) as high as his age (39), his best series here was decent, the rest have been poor to middling, he was reasonable last series here (17/18). Broads average in Australia is higher (37.17) his age. He was poor out here last time, and has been declining in general recently - he’ll be lucky to play.

If these are the bowlers we fear, then the rest of their lineupmust be hot garbage. Thankfully, whilst not great, Wood should do alright out here, certainly better than Anderson and Broad.

It is because tradition dictates that the first test is at the Gabba

Fair point.

It appears that Greatwhite and me are on a similar page, the Cricket Board needed to plan the Ashes tests with a bit more flexibility. As said before, Cricket Board v State Govt, who will blink first ?.

I look at comparing Cricket with the AFL, this year. Due to restrictions, the AFL moved around games, to get them played. It appears that Cricket is staying with a fixture due to “tradition”.

I wouldn’t of been going to a Perth Test, but it does now look like the ACB wasn’t pushing too hard to play in Perth. “ My way or the highway “, ain’t going to work running into the Member for Rockingham.

Quick question about Perth not probably getting the 5th test. No issue with that by the way.

But really wanted to know why under existing circumstances (Covid and Deadbeat Mcgowen) that CA didn't put the 1st test in Perth. That way all quarantine has been done for the summer, they can then play a lead up game against WA and then the test and then not have to worry about Premier FIGJAM for the rest of the summer.

Seems perfectly logical thats how it should of been done but I understand sport and logic don't generally go hand in hand in Australia.
Brisbane is always the first test, a tradition, we have an ungodly record there and to start a series 1-0 is massive.
Melbourne and Sydney host holiday specific tests (Boxing day and New Years respectively).
They gave Perth the last test hoping the border would be up by then as they couldn't be given the first test.

Should’ve dumped tradition this year and played the first test in order Sydney or Melbourne. That would’ve got around the quarantine issues and the loud for some flexibility. The state is still governing in a pandemic. It’s ridiculous to think that the ashes couldn’t have changed just for this.

My point was they would of only needed to one quarantine and that was in perth, start the test in Perth last week and Brisbane host the second at the same time they would normally.

Mate I think Mcgowen is a twat so it's not about supporting him. I just thought if they wanted a test in perth that was the logical way. My thought now is they don't want a test in perth.

Just not sure you can when the weather in Brisbane gets bad after December. Plus it’s tradition it feels weird not starting in Brisbane.

McGowan is the twat though should have just let the players do the quarantine in Brisbane

Last year wasn't?
Most "traditions" in Australian cricket dare back to the post WSC period, I can remember watching ODIs on Boxing Day in the 80s, or in the case of the deification of the cap even more recently than that.

Talk about tradition, that’s ok, but if I remember rightly, Perth has had Test Number 2, after Brisbane for close on 50 years.

Brisbane to Perth might have had a chance of working. Don’t mess with tradition.

So we have to change the whole summer because your bloke in charge. Why? Honestly it’s not hard, they have done a quarantine they don’t need to do another just get a test and be done with it.

Perth was going to be a problem test 1 or test 5, the premier changes the rules daily.

Brisbane has hosted the first test in only two of the last five seasons.

Not much of a tradition.

Suggest you revisit the definition of 'tradition' and note it's relationship to history.

Brisbane has regularly hosted the 1st test for Australian based cricket test tours since 1931.

Since 1982, the Gabba has been the first venue of the Ashes series when played in Australia.

He's bang on the money.

Trying to make sense of the Aussie selectors is a waste of time though.

Happened to Glen Maxwell the last ashes series in England, gave up the opportunity to play IPL which would be a financial hit for him.Reason why he wanted to play test cricket again and played county cricket with good results.Plays the world T20 tournament in England,a couple of rash shots. Then we have 2 Australian teams over there and they play each other to decide a test squad.Do you mind Maxi not been selected in either team.If Maxwell is not in the best 22 players in Australia at the moment in red ball cricket I know nothing about cricket. An absolute disgrace we have been robbed of the opportunity of him playing any red ball cricket since 2019.

With all the rain in Brisbane these 2 will probably skittle us for under 100.
It’s very unlikely they both play in Brisbane, so no, I don’t think they will. Still, stranger things have happened. On that, I reckon both captains would be happy to lose the toss at the Gabba, given the lack of preparation/ weather/ potential pitch.

First of all, how can anybody still believe Smith was merely 'ignoring' what was going on?

They all knew what was going on, including Smith.

Just as the Brits all knew about the lollies, and the South Africans all knew about the bottlecaps.

Did the British or ZAF fans throw their teams (let alone their captains) under the bus?

No. Because they are not a bunch of judgemental vindictive schmucks.

There are actually still people out there who believe the bowlers knew nothing…😂😂😂😂

But then we’d be having the exact same argument about the Brisbane test!!! I suppose the hope was by mid January that WA would have got over it.

But the other issue with Perth first up, is they’ve just changed their border rules again overnight, so Carey would suddenly not be allowed to play potentially or Khawaja?

Whenever it was held there would always be problems, at least now they can fix it easily, wouldn’t be so easy 5 days out from the first test.
