Re: Ask DT/SC Questions Here (Please Read First Page before Posting)

What I'm talking about is when a player takes the kick in to himself, runs with it and then kicks. That counts as a kick for dt and is a play Hanley used a lot last year.

Yup, knew what you were talking about. Just trying to clarify that a normal kick in by itself does not score points in DT.

Re: Ask DT/SC Questions Here (Please Read First Page before Posting)

That might be true for "effective kick" scores in SC but a kick in is not considered a kick in DT and scores 0 points.

That may be true, but who cares about DT? :p

Re: Ask DT/SC Questions Here (Please Read First Page before Posting)

If Hanley starts playing midfield than I am confident he will average 90+points while being listed as a defender. ATM he is a lock for my SC team but I'll be tossing up between Hanley, Hurn and a couple of others for the final spot.

Is 90+ enough to be considered a premium defender though?

Well, only 4 defenders averaged over 100 in SC last year IIRC. Therefore, 90+ would put a player on the next tier. I think if you got a 90 average from your 7th defender, you'd be comfortable with it. To average 90, Hanley only needs to lift his ppg by 7.

It would have gotten Hanley into the top 15 defenders last year. A 96 avg (an increase of 13 points) would have seen him make the top 7.

As for value, he's currently 26th priciest - 20k cheaper than Merrett.

True, but the flip-side of that is that last year was a fairly flat year for defenders. In 2010 you had Goddard, Lake, Gibbs, Hodge, Bruce, Delidio, and Johncock all crack the 100, and then Broughton, Cassisi, Kelly, Rawlings, Enright, Fletcher, Malceski and Milburn at 95+ too. Some of those are off the cards now with retirement or placement change, but a fair few also had injury woes in 2011 as well. So, the question becomes - will defender scores be more like 2010 or 2011, and if the former, does Hanley averaging, say, 93, become good enough?

Good point Drummo.

I guess if you think that defender scoring will go back up, then Hanley is one of the guys whose scoring may improve. If you think that defender scoring will stay static, Hanley requires only minimal improvement to be ranked alongside the premiums. Rather than making score predictions, it is actually more a comparative exercise with the other 15 or so defenders who might be capable of becoming premium and working out whether Hanley's capacity to improve exceeds those guys.

In turn, also a good point. I guess I tend to go a bit more "risk free", for want of a better term, and stick to known premiums when possible. That said, will certainly be casting a solid eye over the NAB games this weekend!

How is Adcock shaping up so far this year, is he likely to lift his average back up to 90 ? Is there any dispute over his role in the team ?

He looks good. I think he will average around 90 ish. But having said that there might be better option such as Suckling or Broughton (depending on how Lyon uses him)

joder i need zorko to be fit for the real season not just for my s/c team but for brisbane as well

just adds soooooo much of a strength to what is brisbanes main weakness

and surely the guy deserves a decent amount of luck as well

Re: Ask DT/SC Questions Here (Please Read First Page before Posting)

Hey everyone. I had a read of the first page but am curious as to your thoughts on Lisle after the NAB Cup. As a Hawks man, I always rated him fairly highly. Shocking kick for goal, but the kid can mark the ball. Am looking at him for a very late Draft Pick in Ultimate Footy. Do you think he'll play the majority of the season, will he be your main key forward (obviously after Brown)? The jury seemed out in the original post. Some thoughts on Polkinghorne would be great too.

Picked up Hanley in about the 15th round and was stoked with that.

Any advice, help, or know-how would be much appreciated. Thanks a heap.

Elliot Yeo- Looking at him for a rookie spot on the bench for DT. Roughly how many games do you think he will play this season?

Ask again in a few weeks. Spots 15-22 still being settled. For now, gut says Yeo's got too many ahead of him and he'll get 4 games if you're lucky, barring significant injury probs.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if he plays early (perhaps even if he plays at all this year), but you just never know....

Lisle is no certainty for round 1. We've got a lot of taller types to fit into 22 and he's got to win his spot. He needs to show he can play alongside Brown. We traded for him to play senior footy and he would appear to be in our plans for round 1 but someone will have to miss.

Polkinghorne is still a maybe in terms of having a breakout year. I thought we was good on Sat night but others disagree. His issue is consistency across 4 quarters. We'll play a midfield that will centre around Rockliff, Redden, Rich and Black - Polkinghorne doesn't really provide a point of difference to that group. I don't see him missing round 1 but we've got a few pushing for a spot in the midfield rotations - Beams, Green, Harwood, Sheldon would all like that HF/mid role that Polks currently occupies.

Re: Elliot Yeo

98,700 in Dream Team. Will he hold down a position this year? I'm thinking no, but what do the Lions fans think in terms of current players etc.?

I'd say no, but if he keeps playing well in the NAB Cup he might be able to force his way in. I'd just be worried about him being a sub if that's the case.

Re: Elliot Yeo

What role do you think Hanley will play this year?

After the Grimes injury he's the replacement I've got at the moment, likely to sweep across half back and get lots of ball?

Most seem to think his role might be similar to Heath Shaw. He's spent time in the pre-season on a wing, as a loose man in defence and onball (occasionally).
