Just saw all the deals that have happened.....

seriously, are we asleep for the wheel?

Seems like clubs are throwing out quality players for peanuts and we are just sitting back with our hands on our dick.

surely we could have taken advantage of this (as most clubs don't see us as a threat ) - we need to replace LOTS of players in the weekest draft ever.

We had draft space - what are we doing?:(

We have nothing of substantial value except draft picks, but what club in their right mind gives up picks when they're re-building? Depending on whether picks are involved in Shultz/Farmer, I've been rapt with our week so far. I'd give us a solid B+.

Melbourne, North and Freo aren't trading either, and our list is better than all 3 of those clubs. We'll be OK.

ive thought about it but you know frenetic activity during trade week has rarely equated to success on the field...huh Miller...geelong are traditionally as quiet as a church mouse, adelaide, collingwood...i wouldn't mind to follow in their path...I'll look on with interest to see how Vossy and the Hawks fares by following mad dog millers firesale approach to trade week

I'm happy that for once we have taken a backward seat, quietly going about our business

its not that i am upset at us not going after a big name - i understand "where we are at"....

but seeing young potential talent like Drum or Kennedy go for peanuts - just think "shit" surely we could have targeted someone thrown some money at them and then insisted on a "bargain" trade due to salary cap issues.

This is i very weak draft, we needed to be trying to upgrade picks - more than getting more late picks.

Raines & Schulz = Farmer & 44 is not a great result considering.

Lets hope they can have a genuine crack at Jesse Smith and we can lure a decent young talent to our side. We only really need ONE trade like that to make it a worthwhile week for us

I'm happy just to get rid of Schulz and Raines. Farmer, pick 44 and pick 40(exchanged for pick 50) is a bonus. Been a pretty good week. I'm expecting Tuck to go tomorrow, whether it's for a pick in the 30's, 40's or 50's, we'll see. Would love to get trades for Mcmahon and Simmo too

didnt read that? was that part of the Schulz deal? That certainly adds a bit more to the results....

I think we should have a real crack at Jesse smith now - work in a 3 way deal with tuck and perhaps a our our 3rd rounder - lets try and screw someone:)

yep very talented young kid, id be up for trading a R3 selection

I think that until the RFC has some sustained success and administrative stability, players will not choose to go there.

Hopefully for you things will change in the 2010s.

thats it mate - we have pick 2 in the PSD - we still have tuck and we have a surplus of picks below 50 - lets try and woowie someone with $$$$ and get ourselves a bargain at the trade table.

If we could get Farmer & Smith and still have about 4 picks in the top 51 - that is a MUCH better result:)

I agree, Kennedy or Smith would be great, you can A Everitt and even B Reid these two players will be given away

yeah, i agree with that. except i know absolutely nothing about whether smith will be another cogs.

upgrading from 51 to 40 isn't much either. it's not even an extra pick.

I don't think we need any more talented but perpetually injured players on our list, so to Smith I say

As for Drum, he couldn't hold a spot at Freo, he's a mid-size KPP which we're okay for, and our track record in developing other clubs' discards couldn't actually be much worse. If I was Geelong and could afford to bring him in as about 34th man on the list, well and good. We're going to need to play these guys. To Drum I say :thumbsdown:

So what I am seeing here is we should be making lots of deals but the moment someone mentions trading a Foley they get jumped on.

Raines and Schulz are not going to get us Ball or Burgoyne or Fevola. We can throw in as many Browns, Pettifer and JON's as we want it still will not get us anything.

Schulz for Farmer is about as good as we could have expected if we could have gotten an upgrade in picks that would be great and an added bonus.

Raines we got about what a player who couldn't get a game for the 15th placed team who wanted to leave was worth.

We have many duds we should be thankful if we can get anything more than a Mars Bar for any of them.

Slightly more realistic than the bloke who said 'when we get rid of Schulz, McMahon and Simmonds, we'll have no duds left'! Could name another dozen at least. Nobody has come knocking for our players because we have a poor list, and unless we did a star for three players trade, there is very little we can do.

Would you really prefer it if every proposal the club made was in the papers? It makes other clubs think we are desperate, it pisses off the players concerned and their entourage/personal fan clubs, and it makes other clubs start jacking up their prices when they learn of our interest in certain players. Going public with trade proposals is a bad place to be unless you have the currency of a star who wants to go.

Hi all, new to this forum, but I post on another and I read this one a lot for some of the info. I like the thread name because I totally agree, we should have been more agressive and this IMO is why!!

So far Geelong has ended up with these picks, 17, 28, 40 and 42 how do they do it..... yeah yeah more to trade but really what have they lost?
huh.gif
? Add to that, they actually have pick 17 before our pick 19, pick 28 before our pick 35, pick 40 before our pick 44 and pick 42 before our pick 51.

Geeeezus other than pick 3 they have nailed it, we should have at least tried to upgrade some of those picks, I think we have failed a bit after looking at the pick comparisens!!!

I agree and realise your point of view about the picks we have in comparison to Geelong. But the way i see it is that Shultz & Raines were fringe players that rarely saw game time this season & were looking at getting delisted anyway, so to get something in return for them is pretty good..

I dnt think were asleep in the week, i just feel that were doing what we can with the players we have up for trade... I have no doubt that the coaching staff wouldve looked at the opportunity at getting the likes of Kennedy, Mcglynn, Peake or Drum to Punt rd but realised that what we have to offer without giving away an early pick was no comparison to what other clubs have in the bank.

Have u noticed that clubs heavily involved in trade week besides Port were all in the finals and look so the same for next year..Those finals teams are looking for short term success in comparison to long term stability at Punt rd.

Yeah noticed that the Saints, Hawks, Lions have been heavily involved, lets just hope they have a year like we had in 96. In 95 we thought we were an inch away, picked up some experienced players and it fell appart from there.

Everyone of our de-listed players or our traded players were of no worth, I will agree there. I just wished we had put players like Edwards, Polo, Connors and Patto out there to see if we could of attracted more picks.
