The Basset years as defensive coach coincided with our worst years under Hinkley and long, predictable kick-ins to packs on one side of the ground. Monty was much better as defensive coach.
This is not great news IMO
Let's go back to playing 8 defenders and scoring 50 points a game. No thanks.

Reckon he should swap with Lobbe. I'm really interested to see how the ruck position can be evolved into a pressure player.
At least his time spent coaching fantasia can't go down.

What was the magpies attack like under Chad?
My memory is that it was better and more attacking than the AFL game plan (which is why Ken didn't like it).
Perhaps a move to forwards coach could work?

Yeah, we've never moved the ball quickly from the back since I can remember. It continues to annoy the **** out of me, particularly since you see every single team in the finals moving the ball with speed and purpose as soon as a turnover occurs.
Stopped it in 2015 after Hinkley shit his shoes when we lost the prelim by attacking. Was so scarred from trying to win games that he became despondent and began to coach not to lose games.
7 years later we still play the garbage protective 'don't lose the ball' game rather than actually trying to score.
