Worth a try. But I'm not actually trying to take a rise here.

The point I'm trying to make is that I suspect it would never enter McGuire's nor the majority of supporters minds that we may have a high quality ready made future senior coach right under our noses and yet the extent of our thinking is that he will be a loss and we wish him well at Freo. That's the mindset.

Agree we should go hard for the likes of Mitchell and Collins. Both have great pedigree. However I have one question for you - as assistants to Buckley or one of them as replacement senior coach?

On the face of it, that's a fair call mate. But don't confuse it as wanting to agitate but moreso concern for where the club is going.

So if you don't mind, how would you respond to my questions? Would it ever enter your mind to consider the likes of Longmuir and/or Mitchell or would you always defer to Buckley as the senior coach and think it would be just natural for these 2 fellows to play the roles of assistants?

I'm being quite genuine here. I'm interested in supporters immediate thoughts albeit I expect I will receive little or no responses as most supporters will think I am trying to agitate. I get it.

Reminds me of that guy who was calling for Malthouse to be sacked for three straight years on here. Bring in Buckley, Bring in Buckley he said. We brought in Buckley and at the end of 2013 he was slamming the club for rushing the transition and causing us to miss out on Hinkley.

To be fair, coaching Melbourne and their at the time pretty boy gang of prissy private schoolboys more interested in partying and the precise and artful placement of each lock of their hairstyles than actually training or putting in a decent, honest days work playing footy, thatd make you bloody cry too Im sure!! I know what you mean but Longmuir was a forward as well.

Looks like we'll get Scott Selwood on board as a developmental coach (perhaps as a VFL player too) if he doesn't get on an AFL list next year. Could also mean we promote from within by moving Boyd or Lockyer up to the senior committee. Makes me wonder whether we could've held on to Rivers if we told him he would be moved up if Longmuir goes. I doubt it since he'd probably want to sign with NM regardless of if we made that offer rather than sit back and wait.

Huge blow for us in reality, our defence has been our best performed unit since Longmuir came, even with tonnes of injuries.

You are drawing a very long bow.
Waters, Neeld were disasters at their respective clubs.
Scott had some success but no flags.
Burns can’t land a senior job.

So our track record at letting go assistants is sound.

And there is no evidence that Longmuire is any better than the above who were all highly regarded at Coll.

Which clubs exceed the tax threshold Dave?

It's something like a 75% tax rate unless I'm mistaken so for every $100,000 we overspend, we'd have to give the AFL $75,000. Is that how the club should be using their funds?
